Excuse me Mr. president, do you have your OWN computer?

Keith Olbermann Special Comment: False Objectivity vs. Truth

@Tymbrwulf

I pretty much agree with everything you just said. I think the prose you wrote above would make an excellent deface to the preface of the new book I prefaced called, 'Elephants That Became A Morass Relay System That Were "Gored" Into A Multi-Platform Supported Prostitute', written by John C. Dvorak and prefaced by me and your stuff near the back. Right before the end; you'll kindly remind the readers that they read 259 pages of nothing. Literally, (literally) nothing, but THIS (plus our stuff):

"Then on that dissmal day did I look fondly over the barren San Francisco skyline and remembered the quote I had stated so long ago, and evermore..so...truth-worthy now..."

'Apple makes the arrogant assumption of thinking that it knows what you want and need. It, unfortunately, leaves the “why” out of the equation — as in “why would I want this?” The Macintosh uses an experimental pointing device called a ‘mouse’. There is no evidence that people want to use these things. I dont want one of these new fangled devices.'

----
I think from there we all know that he commited suicide. Strangling himself, to death, from the ledge of his 12-story condo using blue-tooth enabled mice (he hated blue, and as well logic).
----
That's how are (our) books will be in 16 years (sentance? (sp?, seantance?); if we don't do something quick (sic)!

----
Hopefully, my satirical take on the full-on double stupidity that is the U.S. Government will never reach the severe end of either spectrum. I do think we would more easily be pushed right than left. My opinion. Although I think strangely that the Internet may make a mark on the future of our local and national decisions as well as elections. The good thing about this is that people can educate themselves and be far more "aware" as to who is playing in the process and how (coffers, law, and lives). Those "W" and "H" questions will be, if lucky, the biggest decider in the future.

This requires the 'old guard' to leave. The lawmakers need to lose some power methinks by way of term limits/lobbyist repels/no laws made regarding themselves (who the hell left that out)/one law-or-bill-at-a-time/etc... They also need to have a oversight committee ran by the FBI and cases tried by the Supreme Court. Awww, who am I kidding. I'd be lucky to see even one of those go in. It's pretty easy to see what part of the system is incredibly ruined (house of representatives of Scrooge McDuck with minority whip Haliburton).

@kceaton --> Post above. Deleted for obsolescence and a one light year re-post of a post for a new post. Trust me, it's the *new* thing. As soon as I can get the new process to redact itself into a very simple and yet hard to learn html/xhtml (I like to pronounce it hate-in-the-mail) code.

Carrying on... No grammar check again! Have at it!

FYI- the "generated" time has nothing to do with your connection nor your computer. It's not how long the data takes to reach you; it's the amount of time the Sift servers took from the time they received your page request to the time they finished generating the content to respond to your request before ultimately sending it to you.

Obviously, even with greater overall response times, some page loads are occasionally a little laggy, but hopefully for the most part, the majority of users are experiencing a bit of a speed-up the majority of the time.

I hate the smugness of Apple

I do not own a Macintosh but I do not actually harbor disdain for them. I wouldn't want to get stuck on one for work (though I think I could survive). The thing I will always love about Apple is the first class hardware engineering.

Charlie Brooker Reviews The iPad

MilkmanDan says...

I'm not a big fan of Apple personally. In the days of the first Macintoshes I preferred a PC because I could swap out bad drives, add RAM, etc. myself whereas the Macs were a very closed system. I never wanted an iPod because I don't want to mess with iTunes/DRM/etc.; just let me plug in the device as a USB drive and drag my MP3s to it. I don't want an iPhone because I don't want big brother telling me what software I can or cannot install. I don't really want an iPad; if I'm shelling out the cash I'd like to have Flash in my browser and have more control over software options in general.

So from the extremely narrow viewpoint of myself as an individual consumer, Apple has failed to ever make a compelling product that I personally wanted to spend my money on.

And yet, I'm a rather HUGE fan of Apple as a force, an impetus for change, and a contributor to competition and forward progress in IT and consumer electronics. I highly respect Apple as a producer of consumer goods to be purchased by people other than me. So many products and systems that I *do* like were pioneered, revolutionized, or popularized by Apple that I almost find it unfortunate that I have never personally purchased an Apple product in order to contribute to their coffers directly. So it goes.

Hah, the female reporters last name is "Macintosh".

But anyway, I'm glad that Apple has opened the door for a lot of other companies to develop new technologies. And just the same as when every computer or tech manufacturer started making all their products the ugly colors of the first-gen iMac's, there will be a flood of these things soon enough.

But as long as they're running windows, it'll probably suffer the same fate as the Zune.

What dag heard when the iPad was announced

On the open vs. closed debate:

First of all, the macintosh itself should be excluded from that debate entirely. The unix back end gives mac os much more credibility in this department than any offering from MS. Sure, it doesn't come with DC++ preloaded or whatever, but dude, what do you want? Azureus is but a click away.

With regards to the tablet/iPhone, if you really care, jailbreak it or buy another device. The API is available for download. You can write your own software, and install it on your own device. The fact that they make stealing content hard is not a legitimate gripe. Frankly, I'm more concerned about a future in which artists are not compensated for their art (including the peripheral staff such as studio technicians, book editors, lighting guys, etc). Further, on a scale of 1 to manufacturer owns your soul, I'd say Captain Open himself, Google, is the champ. Their whole angle is that you don't even own your software. You freaking rent it from them and use it as a "service." In exchange they learn everything there is to know about you, and sell it to the highest bidder.

The Macintosh Titanium 800mghz G4 laptop I bought in 2002 sits right next to me, and runs Logic Pro and Ableton like a fucking champ.

Yes, I spent a lot in 2002. Seven years later the thing is still solid.

Microsoft and Apple aren't the same type of company. Mac doesn't need to have the same kinds of relations or share the spot light with venders to pitch its products. Macintosh retain control of most areas of their products. Microsoft has to have a more dynamic and involved, synergistic if you will, advertising campaign if it wants to do the best for itself. In other words, comparing how Apple and Microsoft market themselves isn't really fair to either company as they have vastly different corporate structure.

Apple Fanboy Since 1983 (Blog Entry by dag)

My dad brought home the incredible Macintosh 128k one day and I LOVED it. (apparently the list price was something like $2500 USD in 1984, thanks, Dad!) I spent hours and hours on it. It supported creativity like no other data appliance of the time. I have always appreciated what apple does. I must even recant some of my heretical talk about the iphone.

You said you're getting an iphone this month, Dag. When you go to the apple store, don't be afraid when they put those electrodes on your scalp and you go to that glowing white temple and meet The Mighty Jobs. It's pretty neat.
