How to drive a HMMWV in Iraq.

cloudballoon says...

All the more necessary for a louder horn and some laws that give right of way to military vehicles just like the police/fire/ambulance services everywhere, at least that gives them immunity to damages incurred to all those vehicles and the license to practice that type of necessary "ass-hat-sery" without provoking too much scorn.

Granted, the loud horn shouldn't be a unique sounding horn, so as not to give away your location to attackers.

How a majority of those cars didn't yield makes me believe the absence of those laws and/or etiquette.

Someone who knows that letting vehicles, cattle, poultry, or objects stop you in a possibly hostile place is putting you into a static kill zone for an ambush or IED.

Yet this probably enrages the regular population too.

Would You Ride This?

shagen454 says...

It looks fun to me. Seriously, there are only two rides I have ever been on that I never went to go on again. The Twilight Zone ride, where it goes dark and you drop like 12 stories straight down or something like that. I screamed like a girl. 2: DMT breakthrough, a ride so far outside of this Universe that I screamed for my life louder and longer than I would like to admit, lol. After that, jumping out of a spacecraft back to Earth would be like floating in some soothing, calm Caribbean waters.

The only thing that Sanders endorsing Clinton did was make his supporters disappointed in him, it didn't sway his supporters, especially now that the cat's out of the bag.

Loud Neighbor Payback Device

newtboy says...

To whom?
To the neighbors on the other side, above, and below, this guy was inconsiderate first unless they could also hear his neighbors music.

I've certainly wanted to do something like this...I have a neighbor with a pack of up to 18 hunting hounds that bay constantly. I did consider making something exactly like this to blast barking dog noise back at them, but quickly realized that that would make ME the asshole to the rest of the neighborhood, so instead I went to the neighbors and together we called animal control until they were forced to act. He still has far too many dogs, but was forced to get rid of at least 1/2 of them and no longer runs a puppy mill in our neighborhood.
Of course, my hedge and other plants were mysteriously poisoned 3 days later.

He should simply call the building manager and tell them it's a problem, and if they don't solve the problem he won't be paying rent. The noise would stop pretty quickly rather than getting exponentially louder.

woman destroys third wave feminism in 3 minutes

enoch says...

@Babymech

are we playing the numbers/statistic game?
oh goodie../claps hands
i love these games.
can i play?

since i actually agree that mens issues are different than womens in certain cases, and that you recognize that the "patriarchy" affects men as well as women.i see no reason to address something we both agree on.

so we can agree the base premise is "power vs powerlessness",and that women have a right to address this power structure, just like men do,because BOTH suffer under its influence.

but then you posted some tasty links for our enjoyment, and then made the specious claim that this somehow made your argument MORE valid.

ok..lets play by YOUR standards shall we?

1.the gender pay gap, which before 1962 may have been a valid argument, but since it is ILLEGAL to discriminate in that way in regards to pay,and if true would translate to waaay more women in the workplace (because corporations love them some dirt cheap labor).so why is this trope still trotted out?why is it given so much validity as being born as fact?when no serious economist ever sites this disparity, yet so many keep regurgitating this gap is being a real thing?

well,i will just let a feminist economist break it down for you:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/christina-hoff-sommers/wage-gap_b_2073804.html

see? just got me one of them fancy links you like so much.

2.political power in regards to gender.well,i cant argue the statistics.there ARE more men in politics, but what your link fails to do is ask a very basic question:why?why are there more men than women?

pew research addresses that question, and is fairly in line with your link:http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2015/01/14/women-and-leadership/

3.as for who suffers from the most sexual violence.well, according to your link which uses cdc numbers, women suffer far more,BUT (and is the statistic that the women in my video pointed out) when you include prison (which the cdc did not) that number flips on its head:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2449454/More-men-raped-US-women-including-prison-sexual-abuse.html

so the situation is not some cut and dried situation, and there are extreme elements of any social movement, but those elements should not invalidate the message.

just like this woman in my video is not dismissing feminism, she is disagreeing with feminisms more extreme authoritarian bullies, who because they scream louder and are more controversial..get more attention, but that does not make their position MORE important just because they are louder and more obnoxious.

in fact i would posit that this obnoxious behavior works against the very thing they are trying to convey.

we can all agree that we all want equality, fairness and justice and the current, and historical power structures, have always sought to retain and even further their own power.which has been traditionally held by men,but this does not automatically equate to men getting a free ride, quite the opposite.

so women absolutely have a right to challenge this power structure, just as men do.what they do NOT have a right to is imposing their ideologies upon me,or this woman in my video.

this woman has received death threats and threats of physical violence from other feminists! just because she had the audacity to disagree with their position.

at the end of the day this is actually a human issue, and a valid one and we all have a right to our own opinion, but not a right to impose it upon another.

feel free to disagree.

Scared Man Vs. Charging Bear - What Would YOU Do?

lucky760 says...

I didn't realize until not too long ago that there was such confusion about how to respond to a bear attack. It struck me when I heard someone aghast at the very notion that you should curl into a ball and play dead as if he'd never heard that before. (He must've been living under a rock.)

I think the distinction, which doesn't seem to ever be made explicitly clear, is that if a bear charges you as in this video, then you are supposed to do your best to scare it off (by making yourself appear threatening, bigger, louder, etc.), BUT if a bear has already started attacking you, you obviously can't do that (while laying bloody on the ground), so it's at that time that you should play dead to make the bear think it successfully killed you so it will stop attacking you because there's likely no reason to fight a corpse.

The worst confusing part is that many people think your initial reaction when a bear charges or threatens you should be to lay down and play dead. That's very, very bad advice and I've heard of several cases of people doing that where the bear then just meanders up to the person and starts eating them.

If you just lay down the bear regards you as prey and their eating instincts kick in.

If you first try to fight the bear, it regards you as a threat that it needs to fight and kill, hence once you play dead and it thinks it won the battle, it's more likely to walk away. I think the natural instinct of creatures after a battle is to walk away victorious, not eat the opponent.

I appreciate seeing actual footage of how to respond to a charging bear, Up to this point I've only heard various advice ranging from screaming/looking big to rolling into a ball. I seem to remember hearing that different types of bears require different responses, but at least a video is better than just relying on someone's word when dealing with a life and death situation.

"Stupidity of American Voter," critical to passing Obamacare

newtboy says...

Yes, the Retardicans were spouting so many lies about it that this turned out to be true, you had no chance of telling what was actually IN the bill (without reading it) until those liars were 'silenced' by it passing...but it didn't happen that way...they never stopped the lies, just started shouting new ones louder.
That had NOTHING to do with it passing, it was about public opinion, which had been swayed by lies, mostly republican lies.

EDIT: I have a solution to this that satisfies everyone...the Republicans just need to pass Single Payer health care to replace ACA, then they can get rid of "Obamacare", save face, AND do the right thing at the same time. Won't happen, but it could solve all the political BS and get us a health care system that works for all.

Vemödalen: The Fear That Everything Has Already Been Done

Payback says...

Pontius Pilate: You're a funny guy Judas, I like you. That's why I'm going to kill you last.
(later)
Pontius Pilate: Where is she, Judas?
Judas: Kiss my ass!
Pontius Pilate: I can't hear you!
Judas: I'll say it a little louder, get fucked!
Pontius Pilate: [holds Judas upside-down over a cliff by his leg] Listen, loyalty is very touching. But it is not the most important thing in your life right now! But what IS important is gravity! I have to remind you Judas, this is my weak arm!
Judas: You can't kill me Pontius Pilate! You need me to find your daughter!
Pontius Pilate: Where is she?
Judas: I don't know. But Jesus knows, I'll take you to where I'm supposed to meet him!
Pontius Pilate: But you won't.
Judas: Why not?
Pontius Pilate: [holds the hotel key he stole from Judas that Jesus is staying at] Because I already know. Remember, Judas, when I promised to kill you last?
Judas: That's right, Pontius Pilate! You did!
Pontius Pilate: I lied.
