School Police: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

newtboy says...

Not sure where to put this news, but Sweet zombie Jebus….

Sunday morning in Denver there was another mass shooting, 6 shot….all shot by police. Only one was a suspect. The rest were on the crowded sidewalk in the line of fire when officers, not the suspect, opened fire with no concerns for public safety whatsoever.
Police spokesmen, when asked about police accountability for shooting randomly into a crowd of innocent bystanders said “accountability goes both ways”. WHAT!?!
No apologies or even really acknowledgment of any mistakes by police.

https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/denver-police-chief-says-investigation-into-how-lodo-bystanders-were-hurt-could-take-days

Now, not only can we not expect police to protect even children from murder when it’s 400-1, we can expect them to randomly commit mass murder and walk away blaming their victims.

Trump Says COVID “Affects Virtually Nobody”

newtboy says...

Only AFTER trump changed the numbers, the CDC has repeatedly announced the horrible truth only to have to retract it for political reasons, meaning Trump insisted and put their jobs on the line, and fired many that wouldn't ignore results to spread his propaganda.
The CDC has been politicized by Trump and is no longer a good source for information, only propaganda until Trump's temporary sycophantic administrators are removed and professional administrators can be confirmed. That's why doctors and scientists are fleeing the organization. That's why they said 400000+ dead by new years then retracted, it's why they said 6' isn't enough indoors, then retracted despite there being no new data or conclusions. Flu season starts soon, and we sit in the worst position possible for that, still wave one and it's accelerating again.

200000 dead/7million cases =....can you do that 2nd grade math?
.
.
.
.
.
It's an overall death rate of 2.8% Bob. Not .003%, not .02%, not way less than the flu (.1%) like Trump lied to America, but exponentially, up to 50 times worse like he admitted in private Feb 7 (now 30 times worse). 2.8% after we got an idea how to treat them.

That doesn't count deaths from complications, like going into a coma, surviving the virus in that coma, then dying from the damage it did to your brain and lungs. That's not in the covid death number I give you, neither are permanent disabilities like brain deaths, needed lung transplants, neuropothies, heart damage, etc.

Albuquerque homeowners tapes up man for breaking in his home

SFOGuy says...

Know just enough to wonder:

1) She just announced she owns guns and where she keeps them with pictures of the gun safe. Ok, pros and cons to that.
2) She passed through line of fire of her husband/partner instead of getting the subject flat or circling around the other side. I think that's a no-no.
3) Why take him in the house in confined spaces instead of outside on the lawn when he exits? And then way too many people enter the house before the guy is restrained.

shagen454 says...

Yeah, I don't buy it. They see the car stop and they supposedly turn around walking on the opposite side of the street on the sidewalk? I doubt it, if you've ever been in a defensive situation like that - where you don't know what an angry asshole is going to do - you probably turn around in your tracks and probably walk off the street to make sure the guy isn't going to try to run you over - so that is why I don't get why they would have all of a sudden crossed the street (losing time and putting themselves in the line of fire) and gotten on the sidewalk conveniently located next to a puddle.

Second thing is - right when he turns around and the camera has view of the puddle - he says, "pricks.... there's a puddle there!" I just don't buy it.

There have been at least 3 mass shootings in Australia since 1997 (defined as a shooting where 4 or more people are injured or killed - the same as the popular https://www.massshootingtracker.org/ )

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_Australia

One could include a 4th incident in NSW this last week where our poorly trained police shot 5 people. One guy with a knife and 4 bystanders. Check that line of fire yeah?

The Most Costly Joke in History

transmorpher says...

I'm saying that the F-35 doesn't need to do the job of the A-10 in the same style, because helicopters and drones already fill that loitering style of close air support. And they fill it better than the warthog. Drones loiter better and longer, and helicopters are less vulnerable while having just as much fire power, with the ability to keep enemies suppressed without stopping to turn around and run in again. Helicopters don't even fly that much slower than the A-10 and they have the advantage of being able to stay on the friendly side of the battle-line while firing at the enemy, as well as being able to use terrain as cover.
And fast movers do a better job of delivering bombs.

The warthog was created as a soviet tank killer and hasn't been used in the role ever, since the cold war never became a hot war. It was created in a time where high losses were acceptable. You could argue it was made to fight a war that didn't happen either. But it's been upgraded with all sorts of sensors that are already in helicopters and drones to extend it's role into something it wasn't really designed for in the first place.

I'm not beating up the warthog, it's my 2nd most favourite plane. I've logged some 400+ virtual flying hours in the A-10C in DCS World. I know what every single switch does in the cockpit. And I've dropped thousands of simulated laser and GPS guided bombs, launched thousands of mavericks, and strafed thousands of BMPs. I love the thing really
But it's duties are performed better by a range of modern aircraft now.

newtboy said:

So, you're saying it CAN'T do the job the A-10 does, but it's still going to replace it.
Fast moving screamers were not capable of doing the job we need, so we created the tank killer-Warthog. If this replaces the warthog, but can't do what it can, it makes us LESS capable. Fast runs with bombs simply don't do the job we need, and slow and low runs with bomblets or an auto cannon just won't work with this plane.
I'm pretty sure it's just as useless against some of the other enemies/situations it's supposed to take on, and even if I'm 100% wrong about that, it's so expensive it doesn't matter. We can't afford to lose one, so we can't afford to use them.

Every Frame A Painting - Coen Brothers - Shot | Reverse Shot

ulysses1904 says...

Thanks for all of the replies. That makes sense, that it could be genuine if the "surprised" actor was the first to be filmed, while the offscreen actor throws in an ad-lib when saying his lines. Then the director likes the improvised line, adds it to the script, then films the 2nd actor later.

Sometimes the IMDB trivia section can be a graffiti wall of pretty stupid stuff, take this gem from "Dirty Harry" for example:

The sniper calls himself "Scorpio" which is the Zodiac sign for people born between October 24th and November 22nd. November 22nd 1963 is the date that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated by a sniper in Dallas, Texas, a killing that the Clint Eastwood character in In the Line of Fire (1993) would be directly involved in.

I'm glad this thread had a Hollywood ending. ;-)

...In the Die Hard example, Rickman was obviously filmed first, and Bochner's ad-lib made a "happy mistake" they got on film.

If Bochner had been filmed first, you would never have seen Rickman's perfect reaction...

Zero Punctuation - Fallout 4

MilkmanDan says...

I love Elder Scrolls (back to Morrowind), and thought Fallout 3 was very good but not great, but I just cannot get into Fallout 4 at all.

Some of my reasons coincide with Yahtzee here, but a lot are different. It's clunky, the dog does a great job of heroically jumping in my line of fire to take bullets / melee blows for enemies that I am trying to fight, pathfinding is significantly worse than Skyrim (and it was rather poor there), the crafting seems WAY too obsessed with needing 1 or 2 "rare" bits like the screws mentioned in the video that should be in *everything*, etc. etc.

The city building as an upgrade to Hearthfires in Skyrim is pretty cool, but should be a back-burner *optional* thing that encourages you to check it out because it gives cool rewards rather than because the very first set of hobos that you run into want you to do everything for them.

...Take all of that with a grain or three of salt, because I only played for a few days before I got thoroughly annoyed with it and haven't been back since. Skyrim gets new mods that add fun content or make it look *way* better than Fallout 4 does all the time. And I like the setting and lore better, but that is a personal preference. But basically, even after playing through the main story and all of the factions many multiple times each, I still periodically find myself getting interested in another run through Skyrim with a new set of mods. Fallout 4 might get good once the community gets hold of the creation kit for it, but for now I have zero interest in even giving it a more thorough shot to catch my attention.

Kettle Filling Fail

chingalera says...

Cheap seats here, your concerns' as over my head as the reference...Besides, it's perfectly fine to be as politically incorrect when using the adjective "white" with the noun "people" - My sensibilities, having spent most of my life in the United States south around too many white people concentrated in certain areas, afford me a perspective that places all the white races' regardless of adopted creeds or delusions, in the "poke-fun-at-me" box...That, and the fact that my own Euro-mutt origins place me in the historic line of fire

Holy fuck. That could be taken racially, I TOTALLY didn't mean that.

Armed Gunmen Gunned Down by 71-Year-Old Man Packing Heat

Amazing how all the bystanders just stand by. Pro tip: When you hear gunshots, hit the deck or at least take a step away from the line of fire... or at least look around to see where the shots are coming from!

Ruin - Post-Apocalyptic Short CGI Film

Sepacore says...

I want to see more!

Due to not specifying how much time after the Apocalypse this was occurring, the fact that we have the capability to kick one off right now, the speed of progression of scientific developments and the good atmosphere of the short film, the below list of potential conflicts are not necessarily conflicts and were happily disregarded upon noticing them.

Trees/foliage in the building.. could have been taking place 100 years after the Apocalypse, more than enough time for unrestricted plants to grow freely in any direction.

Fall from a 20+ story building doesn't crack open a strongbox, but a kick did.. genetic engineering, his kick could have had the little extra punch the box required.

Stupid guy driving into a tunnel without lights probably wouldn't be smart enough to keep himself alive in a variety of basic situations.. desperation + the cybernetic eyes Quantumushroom mentioned.

Driving just in front and into one of the lines of fire in an attempt to dodge the bullets.. maybe had to dodge a rock, or was high as a kite.

Accelerating without throttle.. may have redesigned the bike, living mostly on your own would require a range of skills, such as being your own mechanic, he didn't seem too worried about jumping off it and it being damaged.

Just make stuff up for the situation to work if you have to.. surely we've all had enough practice doing this with Hollywood.

How Various Presidents Treat(ed) Secret Service Agents

HaricotVert says...

More info at Snopes.com - http://www.snopes.com/politics/clintons/secretservice.asp

Conclusion: completely unverified and unverifiable given the 'anonymous' nature of its alleged "source." Downvote.

The gentleman in the video appears to be parroting a debunked chain email. By "parroting", I mean the dude is repeating an anonymous email and pretending he heard the information first hand. And by "debunked", I mean the email claims to list highlights from a real book ("In The President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes with Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect" by Ronald Kessler), but the contents of the book do not match the contents of the email.
