Admittedly though, while Kafka in the curriculum was indeed a fact, our public education system is becoming a LOT less draconian these days (kids can actually choose NOT to have physics and chem in years 10-12 these days, which is very sad, actually), so I wouldn't be surprised if it had been substituted by local (lesser) authors by now. Then again, I was always a lit-nerd - all I did, age 3-10, was read, several hours' worth, every day. Then I discovered computers.

Also, one of the reasons I remember Kafka as "light reading" might be due to me taking on the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner and Ulysses around the same time

Btw, I didn't vote for the clip in question because of (I know, I'm always unpopular because of this-) Pink Floyd - I absolutely can't stand The Wall...

Why would there be any frustration, especially for a Lit major? Metamorphosis is short, interesting and easy reading with quite unambiguous allegory and metaphors. Where I'm from, its analysis is in the 9/10th grade curriculum.

i like kafka's short works of poems but his narratives lose me.my roomie was english lit,he was always complaining about kafka.my sentence structure alone should reveal that I was not the english lit person in question...sighs.
i never got into any of his other work.
i was the same with tolstoy and doesteyevsky.they bored me.
"metamorphosis" is pretty good,mix that with floyd and it was a winner to me.
the song and animation actually make this short verse more vibrant in my opinion.

But I am in Lithuania, I can tell you the "support for georgia" is almost entirely an opportunity to express anti-russian anger and vengeance, rather than a call for peace. After a "peace" demonstration they sang old traditional lithuanian war hymns about "get on your horse and go to battle". wtf.

The connection between "russkies go home" and "yankees go home" is entirely lost on the majority people here. They are blinded by the opportunity to go on and on about russian aggression, while their own troops are in Iraq "installing democracy" with the USA.

The delivery of a tiny amount of aid to georgia by the us administration was CHEERED here. No irony detected. And support seems to be for the flag and state of georgia, not so much her people. Forget the fact that the government of georgia is fucked up, let's support it because it's not russia!!

And in my city, the town hall has a plaque on it quoting GWB from his speech in Lithuania: "Anyone who would choose Lithuania as an enemy, has made an enemy of the United States".

anyway, i think connecting countries with roads is a good idea.

i live in the NWO heartlands of the Schengen Zone of the EU. I can travel across the whole continent without a passport, and I only need to change my money once.
On the bus recently I looked out of the window as I crossed the border into Latvia, and I saw disused huts, peeling paint, abandoned checkpoints. The bus didn't even slow down.

only 30 places in the WORLD, really? they must have their numbers wrong, because the beach near my summer house in Latvia has singing sand and there's at least 4 that I know of (have visited, have heard the 'singing') on the ~1200km long coast of the Baltic sea in Latvia. ha, I guess they count the whole Baltic sea region as one location! anyway, the notes here tend to be higher than the booms heard in this video.

I was almost in Latvia a little trip a few months ago. There's an Estonian/Latvian (from what i understand) animated film called Lotte. I was the director of the norwegian version of it We almost went to Latvia i think to have our version mixed there.. but it was done in oslo and denmark instead.
and norway is in NATO but not EU.. but we are in EFTA, EU light, hehe.
