Biker shocked as speeding Motorcyclists come right at him

eric3579 says...

Below is google translated of the videos description...

I am very happy to be able to write to you and to be still alive at the moment after having avoided a few crazy bikers by a few centimeters! What do you think ? How would you have reacted? I specify that the biker on the ground is fine, he is doing with his broken arm - He caught the back of the black car that we can see just before. It is not the biker on my right on the ground but the biker we can see right after who is correctly in his lane. Must say that my friend was right behind me at the time! We were very lucky! A frontal at this speed ... Nobody lives ...! V Piston

This is why Motorized Vehicles should use the bike lanes, and not the sidewalks and crosswalks. They are too fast and will cause accidents mixed in with slower pedestrian traffic.

Tailgater Climbs The Ladder Of Success

AeroMechanical says...

I see a lot of fail to go around in this video. Naturally, the biggest failure is on the part of the driver who failed to secure their cargo. that is grievous and inexcusable negligence (assuming it wasn't the result of freak equipment failure like a strap breaking).

I don't like all the cars swerving out of their lane to avoid the ladder. Can't really say for certain from the video how aware they were of surrounding traffic and distances involved, but that is usually the wrong response. Better to come to a complete stop in your lane if you have to. I'm pretty sure the tailgater wasn't aware of that pickup coming up on his left.

And of course the guy not leaving enough space when he had plenty of alternatives available. That guy and his like-minded buddies are the primary reason 40% of my commutes over the last two weeks have been an hour and a half instead of the 20 minutes they should be.

I think it must be the heat or something, but way too many people have been driving foolishly or like they're defending their position lately.

At least two second intervals. Let other drivers merge. Use the accelerator on the on ramp--you should be going the speed limit by the time you have to merge with traffic. We'd all get home quicker that way.

Ah, that's better. Thank you Videosift for the therapy session.

Some people will block that lane to keep others from scooting ahead and making it worse up front. That's what the semi with the dash cam was doing at the time. I don't think that was the intent in this case with the van.

We're Collectively Using Escalators Wrong

AeroMechanical says...

Yeah, one of my biggest fears is that on my deathbed I will lament the 45 minutes of precious life I wasted by not walking up escalators or constantly changing lanes on the freeway.

Avalon Airshow Takes Raving To The Next level

newtboy says...

Oh....I didn't say it worked! ;-)
His glasses were 3/4 inch thick afterwards. I went with him to get his new pair shortly after surgery, he drove, and the difference was startling. I realized he couldn't see a thing on the drive there. I thought he had been joking when he asked if the lane was clear when there was a bus beside us....I was wrong.

I guess in the end it did work, as well as expected in the 80's. He still could barely see with bulletproof thickness glasses, but he wasn't completely blind.

Superb use of a laser---and glad it worked. The mechanism of it working, if I recall correctly, is the burning and scarring of the retinas that have detached "scars" them down onto the the back of the eyeball again...

Woman Barely Saves Child From Out of Control Truck

greatgooglymoogly says...

He saw the white truck start pulling out into his lane and overreacted. Should have just hit the brakes and gone straight, let the driver who made the mistake pay the consequences, not some pedestrian on the other side of the road.

Looks like driver was texting or something and panicked when he saw the white truck that stopped at the bus stop and lost it.

South Park S22 E5: The Scooters

Piggyback Planes

SFOGuy says...

Well, they're much farther apart than they appear...and yet, not far enough lol.
One of the reasons SFO has such horrendous weather delays is that the runways are JUST close enough together that the FAA does not currently allow for side by side instrument approaches to them in bad weather. So, what is a "two lane" airport suddenly becomes a "one lane" airport as soon as the fog, clouds, or stuff shows up. And then the delays become ridiculous

This Cyclist Took Back the Bike Lane on the Brooklyn Bridge

eoe says...

Anyone who bikes in NY should know that you're just as likely to get over the Brooklyn Bridge as through the bike lane in Times Square. Basically, you're an idiot if you do it.

Go over the Manhattan Bridge just down the way a bit, and it's got an entirely dedicated bike lane. Granted, people coming/going from Chinatown oftentimes incorrectly take it, but they're few and far between.
