How Much Do You REALLY Know About Autism?

ulysses1904 says...

Good video. What irritates me is seeing instances where Aspergers is treated like it's the designer diagnosis of the decade. Seeing someone like Jerry Seinfeld or David Byrne comment about how they feel they have a "touch of Aspergers" and are on the "spectrum". Or the legions of Big Bang Theory fans who now "identify" as "Aspies" because Sheldon and what's her name have made it into a fun pop culture caricature. SMH on many levels.

Purple Mattress Sues Over These 4 Safety Questions

bamdrew says...

The little microbeads effectively prevent large surface areas of their purple material from fully flattening and sticking to adjacent purple material surfaces. So its a lubricant to keep their bed from sticking to itself. That's my assumption at least.

Probably safe enough unless someone was purposefully sleeping on the disassembled mattress and inhaling a lot of the plastic, in which case they could have some lung irritation.

Their R&D and Marketing teams should be working late nights putting together demos of exactly how much of this plastic micro-bead powder makes it up through their covering. I'm thinking demos of people in pristine black clothes jumping on the bed then laying on it, then getting up to demonstrate no dust on them through the mattress pad. They also should be looking at comping people better mattress pads if they still have concerns. Just my read of the situation.

Ghost In The Shell - Trailer #2

"kindergarten up-skirt tee hee" is perhaps the best phrase to date to explain why anime very frequently irritates me. Thank you.

Zawash said:

Fortunately, a western adaptation will also tone down any kindergarten up-skirt tee hee, if present. Hard core Japanese anime isn't necessarily all good.

Sodium lauryl sulfate is there to make things foamy, but also:

"Like all detergent surfactants, sodium lauryl sulfate removes oils from the skin, and can cause skin and eye irritation. It has been shown to irritate the skin of the face, with prolonged and constant exposure (more than an hour) in young adults. SDS may worsen skin problems in individuals with chronic skin hypersensitivity, with some people being affected more than others."

Self Defense?

Buttle says...

@newtboy I have tried to explain that I like living at home, not in prison, so yes, in a situation in which I did not genuinely fear grave bodily harm I would try to avoid a disproportionately violent response. That's what the law requires. It would not matter whether the irritant in question were male, female, or indeterminate.

No one is ever "legally justified in killing" someone else, unless perhaps they are an executioner. Deadly force in self defense is sometimes allowed in order to stop an attack, but must cease as soon as the threat is neutralized.

Racist taunts have been alleged, so have homophobic taunts on the other side. It's hard to say if anyone is telling the truth.

The Horse Horseshoe Boots Viral Algebra Problem

nanrod says...

I would never down vote a video like this simply because it offends my knowledge of math and logic and irritates the hell out of me. These kind of problems have been coming my way on facebook repeatedly and they do get huge numbers of comments with wildly different solutions. Actually out of the 500,000 comments claimed for this one probably half of them give 42 as the answer. My problem comes from the assumption that an algebraic variable represented by a symbol (an image of a boot) bears some inherent relationship to a different symbol (two boots). Even if you make that leap that two boots is two separate variables, if there is no operand between them they should be multiplied, not added. In algebra a term such as 3AB equals 3 times A times B not 3+A+B. Unfortunately in this problem with two horseshoes equaling 4 it works either way but if two boots equals 2 then one should equal the square root of two and the correct solution would be 21.414.

LiquiGlide: Nonstick Coatings Leave Zero Waste Behind

entr0py says...

That's true, however those interviews at the start were right that customers are already irritated by and aware of the waste from any semiliquid product (and the work involved in getting the last bit out). And once they see there's an alternative they might prefer it so much that they're willing to pay a little more.

For example, I won't buy one of those horrible glass heinz bottles even if it's cheaper. It's just not worth the aggravation.

Lady Berates Lyft Driver Over Hawaiian Bobblehead Doll

ulysses1904 says...

Whenever something irritates me this much on the Internet I have to first wonder if someone is trolling for effect. If not then she belongs in a sanitarium, I'll pay for the Lyft.

I'm just glad her type wasn't around when Hitler invaded Poland and the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Oh wait, was that an insensitive reference to the continent of Hawaii?

History Buffs: Saving Private Ryan

ulysses1904 says...

Several things always bugged me about the scene where they rush the MG 42, although I know that Spielberg had to have this scene the way it is to move the story along. Capt Miler assigns somebody to rush right, he takes the middle then waits for someone to volunteer to go left. And gets irritated when nobody volunteers, why not just order someone like he did on the right side? And then they have their only medic as part of the assault team. And why not have Jackson the sniper pick off the MG 42 crew? No doubt because his sniper skills already were the focus of two previous scenes. The MG 42 scene provided a turning point in the movie but the logic always irritated me.

And there always seems to be a perfectly intact piano in the street in WWII Europe, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and Fury all had one.
