TIMELAPSE: Largest HMS Prince of Wales hull section delivery

radx says...

"Defence capability" is similar doublespeak to what we use in German, but in case of an aircraft carrier, it really is just irritating to speak of defence.

Anyways, what's the latest on these puppies? STOVL or CATOBAR? I haven't read a thing about it in years, ever since the F-35 went horribly over budget for the umpteenth time.

CATOBAR and F-35C was the last I heard, but that was quite some time ago.

Ginger for Migraines

I got migraines fairly regularly in my teens. Down to maybe one every year or two now, but still get frequent irritant-induced (for me mostly perfumes and other scents) less severe headaches.

Definitely going to try this out!

police detaining a person for no reason

lantern53 says...

Well this is a very interesting video, because I'm trying to figure out wtf UTA stands for, I'm thinking it's Utah Transit Authority or something. So do they have a rule about not smoking on UTA property? That's got to be it.

I'm thinking these two male cops are thinking what a lot of male cops think, which is why the fuck did this little woman become a police officer.
But i got to cover her ass because she probably can't fight her way out of a wet paper bag. She probably needs to get into the DARE program so her biggest challenge is keeping 7 yr olds from putting boogers on her pantleg.

Of course, some women cops are pretty awesome, pretty fearless, and quite useful. Some, like I suspect this one, is pretty worthless.

I don't understand why they trespassed this guy from UTA property however. I just don't see how that's legal.

The whole interaction is quite irritating because I have to agree with the hoodie guy, nothing makes sense.

Which is fine as far as it goes, until he starts painting all cops are brainless gov't toads who sponge off the taxpayer etc etc etc. You lost me there, boss, because now you're insulting my avocation, in which I take a lot of pride.

Lemme give you an example of police work. Yesterday I helped a lady who had an auto accident, her brand new Mini Cooper got destroyed by some little juvenile driving a big ass Jeep Cherokee.

Today I assisted my Lt. with a neighbor complaint, some jerkoff who sounded like he had 18 Red Bulls for breakfast and wouldn't shut the fuck up had thrown a bunch of trash over a patio divider in an apt. complex because he thought his Latvian neighbor was making too much noise. Nobody got arrested, we were just there trying to resolve these two idiots from killing each other.

Then today I drove some old handicapped biddy 15 miles down the road so she could be with her husband who was having hip surgery. it took us a good 30 minutes to find out where the old codger was but we did it.

Two other officers responded to a family who called about their grown son who was off his meds and had a knife...we've been to this house dozens of times because the son is a fucking mental. I thought for sure this guy would get shot dead today, but turns out he was just arrested and transported to the PD for processing.

A couple of people got arrested for shoplifting, nobody got beat, they got a piece of paper with a court date on it.

etc etc etc

But no, this 'hispanic' dude has to jump to 15 conclusions about what ALL police officers do and it's total bullshit.

Dude, you're about as idiotic as these phony UTA cops.

Swedish cops show NYPD how to subdue people w/ hurting them

ulysses1904 says...

The video title couldn't be more irritating "Swedish cops show NYPD how to subdue people w/ hurting them". Should I assume it's supposed to say "w/o hurting them".

What's this, some condescending after-school special where we learn a life lesson? This is as dumb as Michael Moore cherry picking factoids about other countries and how much better society is over there. So fucking move there, I'm sure everywhere is Disneyland except for here in the U.S. I hate this stupid shit.

Do It YourSelfie 360° Selfie Rig from ThinkGeek

I tried watching this but the word "selfie" irritates me beyond belief. It summarizes everything I despise about modern society in one little baby-talk word.

I wonder if this contraption could be hacked to twist off the head of whoever feels the need to use it? So far my attempts to hack iPhones to shoot pepper spray when used like this have failed. :-)

The Bucket Board

This is all about saving things, but the think about the wasted amount of footage they removed between all this image-leaping-around!

Love the theme, but damn, I hate movies that bounce all around like this. Completely unnecessary and irritating.

Or maybe to give a better and more accurate view on round-up toxicity, this summary from a scientific journal article prepared by The Department of Pathology, New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York, link to full article follows:

Results from several investigations establish that
the acute toxicity and irritation potential of Roundup
herbicide in humans is low. Specifically, results from
controlled studies with Roundup showed that skin irritation
was similar to that of a baby shampoo and
lower than that observed with a dishwashing detergent
and an all-purpose cleaner; no dermal sensitization,
photoirritation, or photosensitization reactions were
148 WILLIAMS, KROES, AND MUNRO
observed. Furthermore, the incidence of occupationalrelated
cases involving Roundup is low given the widespread
use of the product. Data from these cases indicated
some potential for eye and skin irritation with
the concentrated product, but exposure to dilute spray
solutions rarely resulted in any significant adverse
effect. Most importantly, no lasting dermal or ocular
effects were noted, and significant systemic effects attributable
to contact with Roundup did not occur. Studies
of Roundup ingestion showed that death and other
serious effects occurred only when large amounts were
intentionally ingested for the purpose of committing
suicide. These data confirmed that the acute oral toxicity
in humans is low and consistent with that predicted
by the results of laboratory studies in animals.

TIE Fighter - Epic Anime short - Go Empire!!

sixshot says...

So this is the finished product, eh? It's good that whoever worked on that project finally got it done, even though the short that was already linked is 2 years old.

It does feel finished. But I'll be honest and to the point: the music sucks. It sucks sucks sucks sucks sucks sucks. If you were to mute the audio, you can enjoy it (and can almost hear the sound effect in your head). Watching it with the audio was both entertaining and irritating at the same time.

How to Say Hello to a Woman

kceaton1 says...

My father has Asperger's, though he did get caught very late in life, which had it's own issues. He realized that many of the things we had told him (for quite some time) were indeed very true; and what he once thought was "his truth" was really just a fabrication.

This in turn could make him irritated and possibly angered if you told him something he was doing wrong or how he could change (it takes a "third party" to really change things sometimes). He also could be quite cruel in comments and actions during "family talks". Or just how he approached us and acted towards us when he couldn't figure out the source of his issue(s); like having a doctor visit the next day and not realizing he was going through massive panic attacks, for the simple fact that it was a social meeting. But, since then, with a few years gone by, he has changed a lot. He's now much more calm and much nicer, a literal 180...

This guy I doubt has Asperger's, mostly due to the way he sarcastically remarks over all of his social cues and techniques--the whole video. If an Asperger's could do this, I'm not sure you would even bother calling them Asperger's. Anyway, if you still have doubts, click one the YouTube link, and watch some of his other comic videos; it seems to me like he was playing a *role*--to some degree--in this video, as he seems very different in other videos (and if watched more and more of them, perhaps I'll find one where he acts like a new Persona in that as well).

Oh and this too:

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Video Page (Sift Talk Post)

RFlagg says...

My only issue with the design is the hover comes too quick. I tend to mouse around a lot, and jump tabs while watching videos and even if I am getting ready to tab out for a moment, the hover effect blocking the video sort of irritates. If it pushed the rest of the video down below the hover, that'd be okay, or a slightly longer hover, that'd be good.

Other than the hover effect, I don't mind the layout personally. Sort of a more "Theater mode", which both YouTube and Twitch offer as an option. I'd say perhaps offer this new Theater mode as the default, and if a user sets it to "normal" than allow for that (non-users get a cookie that expires quicker rather than an option setting).

I'm not going to break much new ground with the rest, most of it has been stated and I'm echoing with my own thoughts.

The loss of channels seems odd. Either put it under the submitter or under the description. Same with number of views and video length.

The who voted could be put into the hover effect over the vote counter, again with a small delay.

Perhaps time stamps on the comments.

I'm looking at this via a desktop I should note, with a 1080 screen, so the layout works so far. The vote buttons for me are in a good spot. How this works via mobile I don't know yet.

Baby fights dog for bone

ant says...

"UPDATE: As I mentioned in the comments that I initially posted with this video, based on our dog's extensive training, temperament, and exceedingly gentle previous interactions with the baby (which are shown in our other videos), under our close supervision, we did not perceive that there was any realistic risk of harm to the baby by allowing her to try to take a bone from the dog. In contrast, a handful of visitors apparently strongly believed that we were putting the baby in imminent danger in this video.

Although I disagreed with those visitors' comments, based on those comments, I contacted the dog's trainer about the video and about the nature of the interaction shown in the video, as the trainer is specifically familiar with our dog's training and temperament. In short, based on her specific experience with our dog and other dogs, the trainer agreed with me that it's unlikely that the dog would harm the baby -- and in her opinion, the dog was not exhibiting any signs of stress or irritation in the video that would lead her to believe that the baby was at any risk of harm during that interaction. That said, she cautioned that a dog's "resource guarding" instinct cannot be 100% bred or trained away, and that a dog's tolerance for someone taking its resources can change over time as the dog develops and ages. Because of that, she cautioned that just because the dog is tolerant of such behavior now does not mean that he'll be so tolerant of such behavior in the coming months. So, particularly while the baby is so young, the trainer conservatively recommended against allowing the baby to take anything from the dog's mouth. Moreover, we intend to follow that recommendation -- so rest assured, we will not allow the baby to interact with the dog again in the way that's shown in this video.

Although I wish the detractors had been a bit more constructive and less alarmist in their comments, I do ultimately appreciate their concern, and I learned a little something from it. So, thank you." from there.

moopysnooze said:

Based on the updated description, the parents have now learnt that this is not a good idea in the future. They may not be concerned about this particular dog's temperament, but aren't they teaching the child that it's ok to take things from dogs' mouths in general?
