How to Destroy Christianity With One Easy Step...

Carlin 3:16 Tell people there's an invisible man in the sky who created the universe, and the vast majority will believe you. Tell them the paint is wet, and they have to touch it to be sure.

I just lost a few IQ points watching this ad for a really dumb fantasy book.
I guess once you believe in talking snakes and capricious invisible sky daddies, you'll buy anything....only $19.95 at car washes that sell books near you.

Ah of course, it won't be a bullet-proof metal skeleton with glowing eyes to bring humanity to it's knees. It'll be millions of flying robots. And they'll probably be invisible soon too.

First 5 minutes of Ghost in the Shell Movie.

In the anime movie she is naked just like she is in the intro. The thermocamoflauge is part of her skin, hence the need for the visor to cover her eyes so she is covered %100. In the TV series thermocamo can be slandered fatigues as the entire outfit is capable of going invisible without needing to shed a thing. Here it is back to a skin tight suit that they decided not to bother with "well what about the head?" .

I do not believe she is naked, it's just a skin tight and skin toned outfit, like looking at a Barbie doll really. It could be for titillation or there could be some practical (entirely made up) reason for it. Shirow is also well known for his more erotically themed art as well.

If you're going to bring rationality and logic into the laws of religions, we can get nowhere.
I agree, logically the laws make no sense, but neither does an invisible sky daddy who's all love, and wrath, infallible but infinitely confusing, all knowing but constantly testing us anyway with torturous tests, capable of the impossible daily but never performs in public, etc. Being irrational when thought through doesn't invalidate it, by the rules of religion. It just means you don't comprehend the mysterious plan that will, miraculously, make it work in the future. Claiming logic demands you interpret the words to mean nearly the opposite of their clear meaning is akin to claiming to know the mind of God, or to know better than God...neither is allowed.

It clearly said different:
"until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished"
NOT "until I die". Earth sure still exists, (not sure about heaven, but it said "and") so every letter of the law is in effect, and anyone teaching different is thought of as "the least" in heaven. I found that indisputable by reading it, it was pretty clear on that to me.

Edit: It's like you're saying they read the words of God, think them through and see they lead to disaster, so say "God didn't mean what he said, he just wants to make us think". I disagree with the contention that that interpretation makes sense....and if it did I would suggest that Aesop is a much better teacher.

Maybe more simple would be to observe that from the evangelical interpretation, if you were to go out and kill every person that failed to live up to the law, the global population would be zero. From there it is hardly rational to believe that Jesus was teaching anyone was supposed to go around meting out judgement. I don't find it such a harsh leap of logic then to read the old testament laws stating if person X commits crime Y they must be killed as being admonitions against the crime. I think it's not that bizarre to read them as the act of stoning others as not a law itself, but a sentence, and a sentence that Jesus death rendered moot.

Compelling Evidence Lion King Ripped Off The Matrix

TheFreak says...

Clearly everything is The Matrix though. Don't believe me?

Hamlet = The Matrix
Dark City = The Matrix
The New Testament = The Matrix
Plato's Allegory of the Cave = The Matrix
When Harry Met Sally = The Matrix
The last Presidential election = Idiocracy
...
The Invisibles = The Matrix
I do not really exist, I am merely a construct meant to distract you from the truth of your existence... = The Matrix

I rest my case.

Really Lion king is Hamlet. Matrix seemed pretty similar to dark city to me (and also the guy who wrote that article).

Are You Ready To Be Outpaced By Machines? Quantum Computing

dannym3141 says...

When someone says something like "we're exploiting parallel universes", what they mean is that one of the many theories that can be used to describe quantum behaviour such as entanglement is to do with parallel universes.

That doesn't mean there aren't other theories, it doesn't mean there are parallel universes, it's just one of the few ways we can make it make sense is if it exists and carries information in a dimension that is not tangible to us.

When Archimedes invented his screw, using gravity to drive water uphill, he could have said that he's using an invisible multi-dimensional goblin to move the water; well that's one theory and its irrefutable until Newton makes an appearance. And even then you can still say "yeah but what we know of gravity is still a multidimensional goblin."

Having said that, it has as much likelihood of being correct as any other theory in its infancy.

Sure, but he never made the argument that YouTube couldn't do what it was doing, only questioned whether it should.

YouTube is walking a fine line here, their empire is built on all these small creators as much as it's big ones. Piss them off enough and they may decide it's no longer worth it and either quit or take their content elsewhere. The less diversity YouTube has in it's programming and the more it just looks like another TV network, with all the same safe boring bullshit.

Ecuador's Got Talent Bullies 16 Yr Old Atheist

newtboy says...

My 46 year experience with 'christians' is a near mirror of your reception.
I have never met a single christian that was not overtly judgmental, derisive, and eventually dismissive because of my lack of faith in their religion, including family. Not a single one. I think the fallacy of 'christian love and acceptance' is just that, a fallacy they tell themselves about themselves in an effort to ignore and/or excuse their own self righteous and divisive actions...likely many truly believe it.

I try to not judge people who live their lives based on the perceived whim of an invisible friend, but it's nearly impossible since they all seem to act like judgmental infantile morons. I'm also waiting to meet one of these loving, non judgmental christians, but of the thousands upon thousands of self professed devout christians I've met in my lifetime, not a single truly tolerant one has presented itself (although they aren't all rude about it)....I have come to the conclusion that, if they EVER existed in the US, they were mostly murdered by the 'christian right wing', and any left are in hiding, fearing for their lives.

My experiences are in direct conflict with your worldview and opinion of the kindness of some Christians. Judged at my own wedding reception in beautiful, nonjudgmental southern california, I was called out and asked if I believed in Jesus and I said no. Why would I say otherwise if it was not true?

Not all of the Christians in our families objected, but many of them did. In fact, many of them refused to be a part of our marriage and begged my wife to leave me. Since then, no one speaks to me on a personal level. They might not have all openly judged me but I'm practically an exile. A thought criminal unfit to converse with on topics of church and state. All of the christians in my life are guilty of this shunning.

The sad thing is, I never make it a big deal (other than when I post my thoughts onto the internet -- where I dump all of my problems) and I don't challenge the beliefs of the people I love -- but they sure do.

You aren't wrong in your logic that not all xtians are judgmental, but you're wrong in your overemphasis of it. Christians need no defender of the faith because God is on their side.

In my own experience and social strata, almost all Christians commit some form of microaggression or judgement upon my lack of faith. Even my wife can't help but occasionally sprinkle a bit of the ol' christian guilt upon my head from time to time. And then she has the gall to talk to me about Christians being treated unfairly.

But that's my life, not yours. I'm sure your flavor of Christ worship is much less judgmental. I don't believe it, but maybe in time I will meet one of these majestic nonjudgemental Christians who don't constantly believe the rest of us will burn in hell for all eternity while they frolic in the basking glow of a jealous, hating God. Sorry, loving... I'm sure it's only love and not a pyschopath's Barbie playset made entirely of humans enslaved to an all powerful being capable of anything.
