Introducing Tesla Dog Mode

It's a Trap

AeroMechanical says...

Yeah, they're doing it wrong again. Something they did or just some nebulous culture shift around ~2000 or so seemed to actually work, and it takes about four or five years before you can know whether what you did worked or not. Prior to the 2000 thing, it was scare tactics, which don't work on invincible teenagers. Then they switched to a less dramatic "it's not a big deal, it's okay to chose not to smoke" approach, which I think was the good one.

The real problem (in the US at least) is the 17 and 18 year-old kids smoking, which means the 13-16 year-old kids do it to be like their older peers. If you can break that cycle, even just once, you come as close to solving the problem as you can. But, since there is this lag time between the beginning of the cycle and it coming full circle, the industry assumes it was the most recent ("evil tobacco corporations taking advantage of you") effort that was actually the effective one. I don't think it is. I especially don't think it will work on college-age demographic they're targeting. It's still "The Man" telling them what to do, even if it's a different hand of "The Man."

Spawn - The Rise of Image Comics

kingmob says...

I got sucked into the Spawn for awhile in its beginnings.
I think I still have all those issues.

It was the one of the better Image brands.

Digital Comics are pretty awesome.
Comixology keeps improving their tablet/phone app.
I would have never read Atomic Robo or the Walking Dead or even Invincible if it wasn't for Comixology.

Right now I am reading X-O Manowar, because Valiant is joining the movie making business...google it.

How to subdue a machete-wielding man without killing him

poolcleaner says...

I was hoping for a good old fashioned English sword fight and a display of a disarming technique. Instead there are a bunch of fat old men waddling around waiting for the invincibility shields. I'm disappointed in you, England. You used to be so badass.

Do We Have to Get Old and Die?

lucky760 says...

*ditto

But the invincibility point is nonsense. Most humans die from old age, so, yes, you wouldn't be invincible if you didn't die from aging, but that doesn't mean you'd still live a short or normal lifespan.

Also, WikiPedia says naked mole rats live up to 31 years. Is that when their tunnel cave-in is always scheduled by Naked-Mole-Rat-Jesus?

It'd be something to clone a human with the ability to stop aging like naked mole rats and the ability to regrow limbs like salamanders.

AAA crash analysis videos of teen drivers

messenger says...

How does that make any sense? They aren't being malicious. They're teenagers whose brains haven't developed an understanding of consequences. They probably do care about other people's lives, but have a feeling of invincibility, like many teenagers do.

If they kill themselves being so stupid, so be it. What concerns me more, are the innocent people who have their lives cut short when these idiots smash into them...

Duck Dynasty Is Fake!

shinyblurry says...

The guy who made this video really failed to give a thoughtful analysis of the situation. Before I comment, I will clarify that I do not agree with the thought or spirit behind Phils comments. I think they were crude, and fundamentally wrong on a few different levels. I do agree with Phil, however, that homosexuality is a sin. However, so is stealing and lying and cheating on your taxes, and so I do not single out homosexuals for their sins in particular. To do so would be hypocrtical because I fall short of the glory of God daily and I need Jesus just as much as they do.

My comment is that this situation has little to do with Phil or Duck dynasty; it is simply acting as a vehicle for a lot of pent up outrage and angst against the media and the politically correct culture. It's an overreaction, basically, because conservatives in general and Christians in particular feel marginalized by the current cultural climate.

It's an interesting cultural milestone because while Chick-fil-a was popular, it was never in the spotlight of the media or very much in the national consciousness. As a money making and ratings juggernaut, Duck Dynasty is right on the main nerve of it all, and so its fans, typically conservatives and Christians, cannot be easily ignored. Greed has given them a voice because the threat of a boycott is seen as a clear and present danger to many different bank accounts.

So we see two forces now pitted against eachother; one is the real motive of the corporation, which is to milk duck dynasty for every dollar it can. The other is its obligation to appease the politically correct establishment by blacklisting all who have violated the new cultural norms. A&E had no choice in the matter; they clearly had to do something. But, it is all just a facade; they dearly wish they had 100 Phils with 100 hit shows instead of just 1.

So, it is interesting to me because greed is taking the air out of the politically correct atmosphere. Because of Duck Dynastys popularity, the right actually has a louder voice in the culture than the left on this issue. If Duck Dynasty was just an obscure show, Phil would be history. Yet, because it generates so much wealth for shareholders, Phil is pretty much invincible. It all comes back to the bottom line, an idol to which seemingly anything can ultimately be sacrificed, even the progressive agenda itself.

Black Range Rover Runs Over Bikers in NYC

Chairman_woo says...

I think he might well have started subtly fucking with a small group of bikers that was actually much larger and more aggressive than he anticipated. Tempers and ego's do deeply irrational things to peoples behaviour and 2-5 tonnes of SUV can have a similar effect to several years of steroid abuse.

I know this because I have had cars/SUV's packed with whole families pull out on me, deliberately block lanes, shout abuse etc. because dad's subconscious knows he's driving a 3T death machine and that makes him feel invincible etc.

You are in no position to guarantee anything here any more than I. I'm not saying you are wrong either, Bikers can be absolute cunts in gangs (especially full on sports bikes and harley's who I generally don't get on with).

Things escalate and while I'm not saying no-one ever got victimised I'm also saying most altercations don't just fall out of the sky.

I'm not for a moment disputing that the bikers largely acted like arseholes, but I am suggesting the SUV driver likely at least did something to garner their ire. Maybe it was just over him calling the police. Maybe he was shouting "i'll show you" etc. and deliberately getting in their way as some of the bikers claim.

Maybe, just maybe....the us vs them mindset many people are displaying in this thread is exactly the same behavioural force that ultimately created the incident in this video . "I hate Bikers they ride like aggressive dicks" "I hate Cagers cause they drive with their head up their arse".

I'm very much trapped in the middle over a lot of things here but I think it's better to try and understand something rather than feeling the need to take sides. It was the unchecked human need to take sides and throw objectivity out of the window that facilitates this kind incident in the 1st place after all.

Do you really think the guy driving around with his wife and 2 year-old started deliberately fucking with a group of bikers? Guarantee you the bikers crowded and intimidated him to start this thing off. That's the whole point of what they're doing... to create a large intimidating mass that removes people from their sense of personal responsiblity. I personally loathe bikers (ones with "patches"). I tend not to get along with them. Can you tell?

Ashton Kutcher reveals 1st name & wins Teen Choice Awards...

Magicpants says...

3 points to him for trying. Now if would just tell the kids that they're not invincible, and that only 1 in a million of them will ever be a celebrity, and that 99% of that isn't how hard you work, but how good you look.

Pastor: Why Blacks Blame Zimmerman

bareboards2 says...

@dirkdeagler
What can I say?

Zimmerman was told to stay in his car. He didn't follow directions. He had a gun in his pocket. He approached first.

Did he approach because he felt invincible with a gun in his pocket?

Zimmerman set up the confrontation. And Trayvon died.

As soon as he stepped from his car, he abdicated "Stand Your Ground" as a defense, as far as I am concerned. He was adjudged not guilty under the Stand Your Ground law.

I don't see any holes in my logic. I don't see the word black or racist anywhere in my statements.

A gun is not a toy. It is a lethal weapon. Zimmerman approached a person with a lethal weapon in his possession, and that person died. Stand Your Ground, my ass.

Somebody Picked the Wrong Girl

Stormsinger says...

Apparently, yeah.

I would have called it more than a little unrealistic, but that does indeed appear to match the fantasy the pro-gun fanatics live in. They actually seem to believe they're each and every one the next Dirty Harry or Martin Riggs, and that as long as they have a gun, they're invincible.

Man of Steel - Trailer 2

Man of Steel - Trailer 2

Sagemind says...

The biggest problem I see with a Supeman movie is finding a believable villain that can stand up to superman without it looking campy.
Marvel has done a great job redefining the franchise with the look of modern reality. Bat Man is believable because he's just a regular man with gadgets.

With Superman, he's invincible in so many ways. If they ignore half his powers and don't use them when he should be, then it's a hard sell.

So then how do you take a guy with the utmost strength, incredible smarts, who flies, has heat laser and cold breath, Doesn't need oxygen to breath, is impervious to the elements and disease, accelerated healing, kick-ass fighting skills, superhuman speed, X-ray vision, superhuman hearing and vision and an eidetic memory, and create a believable conflict using today's reality?

Other than Kryptonite, he has no other weaknesses. Lex is the one who discovers the weakness. So how do you sell that in a new movie. Once you introduce Kryptonite with today's technologies, the weapons against Superman can mostly make him obsolete in quite a matter of fact way.

So it's either he's too powerful or he's quickly dealt with. So which is it?
Oh and not make it look campy, don't forget that part.
