Girl get wrong name graduation card from her uncle

Sagemind says...

I don't care that he wrote the wrong word, and I understand that she was shocked to see her name spelled wrong.

It really bugs me that people think it's okay to film and post this kind of thing to intentionally shame anyone, never mind family members. What an absolute low class and hurtful thing to do.

Then, in the end, her response to what's inside the card, is Sooo low. I have no respect for this person, who in the end, still posts this.
Just can't believe the integrity of this girl is so low.

two minutes into this this guy should have stood up and said "I'm sorry, I'm obviously not qualified and I'm wasting your time and I withdraw". Apparently there is some other motive involved that doesn't require integrity.

While integrity is not anywhere on her list of priorities.... tanking the economy for a cheap approval ratings boost is EXACTLY the kind of move she'd go for.

It's just that this time it happens to coincide with something actually good....

The idea of GB forcing him to apologize would be pretty cool. If he didn't and they screwed their economy just to stand up for their values that would be even better.

Showing that integrity is paramount would be amazing.

Steve Jobs Foretold the Downfall of Apple!

Mordhaus says...

As a former employee under both Jobs and Cook, I can tell you exactly what is wrong with Apple.

When I started with Apple, every thing we were concerned with was innovating. What could we come up with next? Sure, there were plenty of misses, but when we hit, we hit big. It was ingrained in the culture of the company. Managers wanted creative people, people who might not have been the best worker bee, but that could come up with new concepts easily. Sometimes corporate rules were broken, but if you could show that you were actively working towards something new, then you were OK.

Fast forward to when Cook started running the show, Steve was still alive, but had taken a backseat really. Metrics became a thing. Performance became a watchword. Managers didn't want creative thought, they wanted people who would put their nose to the grindstone and only work on things that headquarters suggested. Apple was no longer worried about innovating, they were concerned with 'maintaining'.

Two examples which might help illustrate further:

1. One of the guys I was working with was constantly screwing around in any free moment with iMovie. He was annoyed at how slow it was in rendering, which at the time was done on the CPU power. Did some of his regular work suffer, yeah. But he was praised because his concepts helped to shift some of the processing to the GPU and allow real time effects. This functionality made iMovie HD 6 amazing to work with.

2. In a different section of the company, the support side, a new manager improved call times, customer service stats, customer satisfaction, and drastically cut down on escalations. However, his team was considered to be:

a. making the other teams look bad

and

b. abusing the use of customer satisfaction tools, like giving a free iPod shuffle (which literally costs a few dollars to make) to extremely upset customers.

Now they were allowed to do all of these things, no rules were being broken. But Cook was mostly in charge by that point and he was more concerned with every damn penny. So, soon after this team blew all the other teams away for the 3rd month in a row, the new manager was demoted and the team was broken up, to be integrated into other teams willy-nilly.

Doing smart things was no longer the 'thing'. Toeing the line was. Until that changes, nothing is going to get better for Apple. I know I personally left due to stress and health issues from the extreme pressure that Cook kept sending downstream on us worker bees. My job, which I had loved, literally destroyed my health over a year.

"Alternative Math" - The confusing times we live in

newtboy says...

What you describe is called a "proof" (a pretty simplistic one). It is not a new concept, it's an integral part of doing math. I learned that in the early 80's, right before trig/pre calculus.
Maybe it just seems insane because it's more advanced than your last math class? It's absolutely not institutionalized stupidity....it's standard math.

Edit:and now that I've watched 3 minutes of the video (all I could stomach) I'll call bullshit on your claim that this is normal reality in Canada. I've known Canadians, and they could do basic math, impossible if this was the norm. This is only acceptable in Waldorf schools, where it's designed as "learn at your own pace...or not". I heard the same bullshit here in America, and it was just as false.

They play this like it's a hypothetical future when up here in my part of Canada it's actually more historical.

A teacher in Edmonton was fired for giving student's a zero on assignments they didn't hand in:

After a few years in court he's won on appeal but yet to be seen if that's going to be the end of it. In my province of Manitoba, there is a tacit no fail policy in place where keeping any kids back a grade is almost unheard of. Not only does it require parent's permission and approval before holding a student back, but sometimes even then kids have been pushed along forwards a grade, ready or not.

If you look through and provincial standard math curriculum, it includes gems like this.

http://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/cur/math/mathcurr.html

For a problem like 7 + 5, providing the answer 12, is incorrect. You are instead supposed to show multiple methods of solving the problem, like saying 7 is the same as 2+5 and I know 5+5 is 10, so 10 +2 is 12, thus the answer is 12. It's absolute stupidity, institutionalised and made into a standard. The nutjobs like those in this video have already pretty much 'won' up here in Canada and the struggle is to get back to a sane world where Math and education aren't butchered.

Gaslighting: Abuse That Makes You Question Reality

Asmo says...

Let me disabuse you of some of your assumptions...

I didn't do gamergate and I don't really give a fuck about feminism/anti-feminism as it pertains to how I treat women in the real world (that being egalitarian, everyone should be equal).

Now that that's out of the way, yeah, I am for fucking real. Whether it was a stunt or just a bunch of people turning up to a talk which they paid their money to get in to, it doesn't really matter. Sarkessian was the aggressor (unless you truly believe that threaten = criticise someone's ideas online then show up in person to let them have their say), using a position of power, backed up by a bunch of like minded people to abuse paying attendees who's only crime was sitting up the front and listening quietly, which they are entitled to do.

/shockfuckinghorror, never mind free speech, you can't even listen to people anymore without them wetting their pants in terror.

There is plenty of video footage of said event and you are more than welcome to point out to me exactly where in that footage any of the so called aggressors did anything actually aggressive. Aka, the point where my opinion of what went on is different to the reality. I don't need to convince people of the reality of the situation, I can just roll the footage.

She broke the code of conduct, and while other YT'ers were being ejected for being in public areas (a breach of the CoC), she was given an explicit pass by the Greens. Sargon and the rest of the so called aggressors were not ejected or banned from Vidcon which indicates to me that they did nothing wrong in the eyes of the organisers. The aggressors seemed to get along fine with other people they met that they ideologically disagree with, with no other incidents being recorded. Sark, on the other hand, also verbally abused Boogie2988, one of the nicest and most considerate people I've seen on YT, and someone who had gone out of his way not to offend her.

All this is a matter of record, not my opinion. So now comes the question of your integrity. Are you going to actually back up your claims with a little actual evidence, or are you just going to go back to calling names... ; P

TheFreak said:

Are you for real?

Do you not see that you are literally gaslighting by attempting to paint an individual, who organized a stunt aimed at intimidating another person in public, as the victim of the incident?

I don't even give a shit about gamergate or the feminism/anti-feminism celebrity battle that you, clearly, have taken a side on. I don't support anyone involved because all of the participants appear to be acting like asshats. But any objective viewer can see that one side made a bold move to aggressively provoke an opponent and succeeded in their goal of getting a response. It was bullying and abusive and it illicited an undignified response.

Let me reiterate, I am not your opposition in your crazy war. But I have to point out that it is a perplexing bit of mental acrobatics for you to attempt to perpetuate a false reality by accusing an intended victim of trying to perpetuate a false reality.

That's a clown move and if you had any integrity you would pause a moment for a little self examination.

What, like letting an abusive presenter at Vidcon off the hook and pillorying people she abused? Then saying that it wasn't exactly what it looked like in all the video footage, it was something else.

Secret Studio Built Under a Bridge

winslowws says...

I certainly see the artistic sensibility there. It's cool and unique, but in the end it left me feeling disturbed. Modifications to public infrastructure should be strictly discouraged.

Yes, I understand that a handful of 3" lag bolts to hold up your shelf and table are unlikely to affect the structural integrity of the bridge, but bridges and supports span the gamut from earthquake-ready to collapsing under their own poor construction.

This guy's modifications are unlikely to cause a serious problem, but what about the next guy who decides to make more serious alterations? The potential risk for serious cost and injury aren't worth the coolness factor.

CNN begs for forgiveness, Project Veritas plays its Zapruder

enoch says...

@kir_mokum

what makes the irony even more grotesque is that:

1.look at who projectveritas actually IS.it was founded by that slug james o'keefe..yes..THAT james o'keefe, and due to CNN being such an absolute failure of journalistic integrity, they just made that repulsive man actually credible again.

2.CNN had to post a massive retraction,a formal editors note and a at least three correspondents had to fall on the sword.

3.the projectveritas video has a CNN producer openly admitting that it is about the ratings, and nothing more.the russia story makes CNN money....period.

4.there is STILL no evidence of the trump administration "colluding" with russian intelligence, but there IS evidence that the russia story is being pushed by the american "deep state" to discredit,and/or control trump.

*of course this is from independent media who are not part of the corporate media tentacled network of obfuscation, propaganda and gaslighting.

5.the only media still giving the russia story any credence is american media.the rest of the world has moved on.why? no evidence.

this whole situation stinks to high fucking heaven.

Apple spoof of Microsoft leaves audience in stitches.

TheFreak says...

To be fair:

Microsoft made a better OS for integrated work computers than Apple.

Apple made a better phone device than Microsoft.

Android based smartphone manufacturers made better phone devices than both Microsoft and Apple.

All of the above have been massive technology innovators who have earned their market shares.

Choosing one over the other for a specific purpose is sometimes a practical choice, sometimes a lifestyle choice and sometimes just a matter of familiarity. If one choice seems cooler than the others to you, then that's a reflection of your criteria when making a choice and doesn't reflect on anyone else's choices.

Counterpunch ran a rant by John Steppling yesterday, titled The Magic Liberal.

As you can deduct from the title, the author takes aim at liberals, with focus on their public reaction to Comey's defenestration and their sudden love affair with institutions (law enforcement/intelligence agencies) that have proven time and time again to be an enemy of the public.

Check out this (admittedly rather long) snippet:

And so we return to the firing of James Comey. And this story has less to do with the Trump’s motivations and the fact that Comey probably needed to be fired (though not because of anything to do with Russia Gate) than it does with the sudden open embracing of throughly corrupt and compromised institutions.

I’ve had people tell me the integrity of the Judiciary in peril. One wonders how such sentences can be uttered with a straight face. I have read people writing of the attack on Democracy signaled by Comey’s firing. What can that possibly mean to anyone who says it? The anti democratic actions of Obama over 8 years seems to pass unnoticed. What was NDAA? Obama expanded surveillance, prosecuted whistleblowers and expanded military tribunals. And this just scratches the surface. What was TTP for that matter?

And yet, if you can find me a liberal willing to actually debate this, I will clean your house for a year, free.

No, the New Victorian, the american white educated liberal is in crises. He or she is in a panic over Trump not because they fear global conflagration or nuclear annihilation, but because their Yoga class might get cancelled. They are forever aggrieved over the violation of feelings — of selected vulnerable groups. This never includes the poor, Arabs, Communists or Africans. Well, ok, on occasion it does include Africans but only in very broad abstract ways (i.e. when George Clooney argues for saving South Sudan or whateverthefuckever it was he was on about).

The adoration of the White Helmets, a proven group of psychopathic jihadist mercenaries is a perfect example. The White Helmets fit the white paternalist narrative. It is a form of colonial logic. The subaltern needs rescue. And its just so wonderful that some clearly teachable Arabs can help themselves with the rescue. Lets give them an Oscar. The style codes are what matters here.

there is a new party in town called the justice democrats

enoch says...

@bobknight33
you literally just repeated things that i,and pretty much everyone on the sift already know.

and has NOTHING to do with what i was asking.

i stated, quite clearly, that on a philosophical and political level, you would disagree with the justice democrats.there is no confusion here, and no reason for you to have gone down the line the things you disagree with.

the question i asked is how is the justice democrats breaking away from the dominant corporate democrats any different from the tea party breaking away from the mainstream republicans?

hint:there is no difference.

i may disagree with the tea party on many political issues, but i admired and respected their integrity to challenge the monolithic political domination of the republican party.even though i may disagree with them politically.to start their own branch WITHIN the republican party.

which is exactly what the justice democrats are doing.

the main reason why i asked is because you down-voted THIS video promoting the justice democrats, and yet had posted a video by kyle, from secular talk and who is a founding member of the justice democrats.criticizing the corporate democrats for their addiction to big campaign donors.

so i appreciate that you took the time to check out their platform, but are we really surprised that you disagree with the majority of what they are trying to accomplish?

of course not, which is why my question was not "do you agree with the justice democrats?"

because you down-voting this video, promoting justice democrats, and then posting a video FROM the justice democrats is a tad confusing.

i was really just asking you to clarify.

do you respect and admire a grass roots movement within the democratic party that seeks to challenge the status quo? even though you may disagree politically?

or are you SO partisan that anything that has "democrat" in the label is automatically to be admonished, criticized and ultimately ridiculed?

bonus question:were you aware the video you posted was from a founding member of justice democrats?

i guess i am just trying to understand, because the downvote along with you posting a video from the very people you just downvoted is philosophically inconsistent.

there is a new party in town called the justice democrats

enoch says...

@bobknight33
unsure if you are gloating that you uncovered some deep, dark secret, and are exposing some political conspiracy.

or are just re-iterating what i already posted.

for years i have seen you promote and tout the validity and necessity of the tea party for those who may be disgruntled with the mainstream republican party.

a party that started with modest means, but is now funded by some of the most wealthy and influential political players in our country:the koch bothers.

they even changed their name to the freedom caucus.
and they nominate candidates, and come out to support them.

so how is the tea party, which broke away from the establishment republicans to promote a politics that is more in line with the constitution,ANY different from the people who are sick and tired of corporate, establishment democrats? who ALSO have decided that enough is enough and have banded together to nominate their own candidates, and support those candidates to represent THEIR politics and ideological philosophies.

how,exactly,is that different?

because while you may disagree with justice democrats politically, and i suspect you do,you should also be proud that they are taking a stand and sticking up for their beliefs.

are you SO unaware of your own bias, prejudice and hyper-partisanship as to not recognize when a group of people are doing the EXACT same thing as your tea party did?

be careful bob, your bias and hypocrisy are showing.
and you are becoming a partisan hack, attacking any and everything that is contrary to your own politics, even when in reality it is performing the very same thing that you state to admire.

so what is more important to you?
honesty, integrity and sticking to your moral values?
or political affilliations?

because i can disagree with someones politics, and still admire and respect them standing up for their values.(that includes you bob).

i gather this is something you are incapable of doing, because in bob's world"politics trumps everything else, end of discussion.

if you want to sully your eyes a bit, check out what the justice democrats are seeking to do,and what their base philosophy is:
