Mirror Mirror - Simon's Cat

yellowc says...

I don't know if my cat is super intelligent, little else suggests it

She never had a problem with mirrors and seems to understand the concept at some level. The first time, she patted it twice and seemed to have figured it out, it never phased her after that and I can't even fool her with hanging a rope in the reflection, she just turns around and gets the real rope.

Perhaps that's just the sounds the rope is making my crappy ears can't pick up but yeah, mirrors ain't no thing. I also can't fool her with things on the iPad or TV, she seems immune to flat projections of things.

Apple reveals its thinking behind a gold iPhone

I forgot my phone

Dumdeedum says...

My favourite was flicking through the BBC's coverage of Glastonbury this year and at the end of Chic's set they invited a bunch of the audience up on stage to dance and one guy clearly stopped to send a text and another was right behind Nile Rodgers the whole time recording it on an iPad.

If ever there was a time to live in the moment...

Introduction to Board Games

RFlagg says...

King of Tokyo, Zombicide, Escape, Mansions of Madness, BSG the Board Game, Mice and Mystics (great co-operative game), X-Wing Miniatures game, Android: Netrunner (perhaps best 2 player game out there), Arkham Horror are just a few of the better games on my board game shelf... want to try 7 Wonders and many others... I play Small World, Forbidden Island, Eclipse, Ascension, and Summoner Wars on my iPad
Catan is a decent game, and does well as a gateway (I think Ticket to Ride is better, and perhaps even Pandemic)...
Love board gaming...

Microsoft Makes Fun of Apple

braindonut says...

That article nailed it.

Tablets aren't about getting classic "office work" done. For powerpoint, spreadsheets and documents, you're always better off with a laptop. (Which is what the surface really is - it's more laptop than tablet)

The really clever "work" being done with tablets is in enabling people to do things they never could have done with a typical computer or laptop...

There's a very, VERY vocal minority who is going to buy the Microsoft tablets. Which is fine... But I'll keep my iPad, thanks.

Glass How-to: Getting Started

Yogi says...

I've got an iPad so that's all I need for screens in front of my face. The reason that I'm excited about Google Glass and thinking of getting it is because I ride a motorcycle everywhere...literally it's my only vehicle. When I ride to someplace with GPS I have my phone giving me instructions through my headphones. With the Google Glass it'll be able to navigate me with a bit more clarity. So it's cool and it's the start of something, not sure if I'll be an early adopter though.
