Huh. At 38 I've never really seriously entertained the possibility that I might have ADHD, but this talk certainly gave me pause. Many of the behaviors she describes are something with which I identify, but I'm not certain whether that's because I actually share a set of peculiarities with her or because they are, much like a horoscope, things with which everyone identifies to some degree. If nothing else, I think I need to start looking into what actually defines whether someone has ADHD, and what to do with that knowledge if they do. Thanks for posting this notarobot!

I put very little stock in these personality tests. In particular, I don't trust them because they only describe whatever personality you have in positive, flattering terms - a trait/tactic very similar to horoscopes. Of course you will like the result if you are being compared to Shakespeare and told that you are among the most brilliant minds in the known universe.

So the MBTI's practical use is overwhelmingly unscientific, and it's often criticized for this. Criticism ranges from the pragmatic fact that neither Jung nor Myers and Briggs ever employed scientific studies to develop or test these concepts, relying instead on their own observations, anecdotes, and intuitions; all the way to charges that your MBTI score is hardly more meaningful than your zodiac sign.

I think both advices are terrible simply because they are very generalized and too unspecific. Sure, they're simple messages that sound uplifting and make sense at first glance but the same could be said about my horoscope in the daily newspaper.
Somebody surely told Rebecca Black to follow her dreams and the same must been told to all the casting show rejects that sucked hard enough to be put on the gag reel that makes up most of the ridiculing-others-part at the beginning of each season.
On the other hand I'm sure Bill Gates could've been a wonderful elderly care nurse but I prefer him super rich and very charitable. The same goes for topathletes and moviestars that spend bazillion dollars and their PR forces on charity.

Without sufficient data any advice except the really obvious ones (Don't eat spoiled food!) are nothing but a coin toss. You don't know if you need heads or tails until that coin has landed for good.

I couldn't help but think, as I watched, that everyone who sees this video is relating to Frank.

You could play this during the commercial break of Fear Factor and the audience would nod in agreement. You could play it during Limbaugh and the audience would think he was condemning Democrats You could play it at an Occupy protest and the audience would think he was condemning corporate greed.

Everyone will shoehorn their own opinions into Frank's words and see him as a reflection of themselves. It's like a fucking horoscope.

Predicting an Iraq war in April 2002 was not exactly difficult or limited to Ron Paul. The rest of the video has a certain amount of horoscope logic to it.

He is completely off on the scope of what he predicted. The video is manipulative. I'd really like to see a Paul supporter write these out and back them up.

For instance crude oil did shoot up to record highs but not because of an oil embargo. Does he get credit for predicting that? He's half right. Oil shot up because of instability in the region and speculation, not an embargo.

What about what he's left out. If he had such clever predictive powers why isn't Iran mentioned? Iran filling the power vaccum Iraq's destabilization left is something that could have been easily predicted but he doesn't.

Saying that the Arab Spring was the Islamic fundamentalist overthrowing their government is mischaracterizing what happened. Yes Islamic fundamentalist may end up in power in Egypt and Libya but they were not the instigators of the uprisings.

No doubt Ron Paul along with Hunter S. Thompson and a lot of people knew going into Iraq was a terrible fucking idea and would lead to ruin. That doesn't make him some sort of Cassandrian prophet. It means he was one of the few elected officials brave enough to speak out against it. Which is admirable but it hardly makes him alone. Powell believed it was a terrible idea at the time as well but was too chickenshit to stand up and stop it.

It does sound a bit like he's avoiding the question about morality the other guy wants to ask.
Of course, I believe that morality must come from the bible, which is why I think virgin women who are raped must be sold to their attackers for marriage as they're now no use to other men (Deuteronomy 22:28). Those who say otherwise are disgusting monsters.


He isn't avoiding anything, he's simply not letting the ridiculous (and yet so often used) Hitler "argument" slide by unnoticed.

I read this theory. It seems so compelling, but it if you think about it... it seems like a horoscope.

I'm not wholly convinced that we're better off with them than without, since they're primarily useful in providing after-the-fact explanations, rather than before-the-fact predictions (in other words, they seem to be little more than rationalizations). But I'll agree that the biggest problems come from those who place undue faith in -any- of the schools of economic thought.

My own view is treat them exactly the same as you treat your horoscope in the newspaper...as cheap entertainment. Then ignore them and use common sense.

Common sense and history make it pretty clear that unregulated banks are disasters just waiting to happen. So regulations that separate banking from speculation and force open the banks activities are pretty much a no-brainer in my book.

Picking out coincidences is the same way horoscopes work.

I read the comics every morning as a kid, and also my horoscope ... I knew it didn't mean anything really but it was fun to do ...

Now, as an adult, I don't read my horoscope anymore, but I still read comics (web comics usually).
