Unlimited Detail: Potential Next-Gen Graphics Technology?

1stSingularity says...

Everything about this sets off my bullshit detector. First of all, cutting edge games can run in the 10s of gigabytes of size (most of this size is due to textures, or those things that color the polygons). The problem is that even bleeding edge computers only have a few gigabytes (nowadays probably between 2 and 12) of RAM, and only 1 to 2 gigs of high performance RAM used for rendering the graphics we are used to seeing (aka, the visual RAM). Saying that this magically fake system allows for unlimited detail implies that they can somehow surpass the RAM barrier. I don't care what kind of search algorithms they use (and as Stormsinger pointed out, CURRENT GRAPHICS ALREADY DO THIS), they CANNOT go over the current day RAM barrier.

Also, why in the HELL would someone do a technical demo like they were trying to explain things to a 6th grader? The more I think about it, the more this seems like an elaborate scam to try to get technical laymen to go to their website and/or buy their shit, stock, or something.

As for the the hint that they are doing the same thing google is... Wow. Google uses a metric shit-ton of the most technically advanced servers available to deliver its results quickly. Not a single consumer computer/console. We are talking thousands upon thousands of business class servers. Do not compare your fake video to Google.

Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid Concept

Stormsinger says...

A very low power to weight ratio does not make it a high-performance hybrid...that would make it a dog. Who made this clip? Cause I'm having trouble reconciling a mistake like that with automotive professionals.

Make no mistake about it...even if it performs like a dog, I'd love to have one.

with nuclear rockets they glued to your optics with sci-fi
Unsettlin, man and metal blends
Underground chillin with the Mole Man, and his whole fam
Inhibit bacterial growth, material wrote
Impenetrable, incontestable, indigestible intelligence

It's rapid innovation, penetratin
Artificial life forms, who bite songs
I'm a buy a vest, lie is next, then I'll flip the bio-techs
Right into the wireless; your third eye is hit with psoriasis
The mightiest, Deltron Zero
Traverse and purge the travesties that tempt your earholds
The area of distribution, lifts the clueless
My flow is like, liquid oxygen
Rip it often with specific impulse, increasin thrust
Grease the cuts - unleash a cluster of thoughts I muster
I talk to touch ya, and rupture commercial communications
Convert solar energy, into imagery
In the mind's eye, blindside the contagious
With radioactive isotopes to decay them
Atomic mass they small as fragments
I magnetize the avid lies
My radiation shields reflects, rejects Decepticons
who take the truth and stretch it long, while I bless a song
Next level incredible, metal melding
Flexability and my engine is never failing

All your rhyme histories combined couldn't violate

Use my hydrometer to see how warm you are, watch me form a star
Hydrogen turned to helium when I shine
Ridin 'em revealin 'em leadin 'em to the vacuum
Interact with tunes in my digital citadel
Critical pivotal with the mental shit on you
Spit infinity, hiden energies too dope for our planet
Star spannin, slammin hymms with
mechanical limbs, scanning your lens
with cosmic rays, you'll all get played, your brain's inferior
I hit the lateral AND posterior

Starglider intro on Atari ST

Zonbie says...

LOL I remember this! My brother had this on his ST I was only 10 when I saw this - the music was awesome because it wasn't a MIDI track but sampled! WOW, I think a sizeable chunk of disk 1 was that track

(remember "sizeable" of 720K!)

From Wiki - for those who remember
Starglider is a 3D video game released in 1986 by Rainbird. It was developed by Argonaut Software, led by programmer Jez San. The game was inspired by Jez San's love of the 1983 Atari coin-op Star Wars,[1] It was a fast-moving, first-person combat flight simulator, rendered with colourful wireframe vector graphics. The game took place over the surface of the occupied planet Novenia, and it was the player's goal to rid the world of the mechanised Egron invaders. To this end the player was equipped with a high-performance AGAV fighter aircraft, which was armed with lasers and television-guided missiles.

Starglider was originally developed by Argonaut Software for the 16-bit Commodore Amiga and Atari ST machines. Rainbird also commissioned Realtime Games to produce 8-bit versions for the Amstrad CPC, Amstrad PCW, and ZX Spectrum (128k, with a cut-down 48k version without sampled speech or special missions), and also for the IBM-compatible PC running in CGA. Solid Images were commissioned to produce versions for the Commodore C64 and Apple IIGS. Most versions included then-novel sampled speech, from Rainbird employee Clare Edgeley.[1]

Starglider was packaged with a sci-fi novella by James Follett, describing the game's background story

It was followed in 1988 by the sequel, Starglider 2.

Hinode Images of the Solar Atmosphere

silvercord says...

From YouTube:

After its launch on 22nd September 2006, the Hinode spacecraft is working successfully. These images showing dynamic phenomena of the Sun's atmosphere demonstrate the high performance of the three telescopes on Hinode. One of the highlights is a dynamic eruption above a sunspot seen in the Ca II H spectral line, which was first discovered by the Solar Optical Telescope (SOT).
