Sarah Palin as VP? (Election Talk Post)
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
In all truth, probably little overlap. I may have watched her play basketball against my high school. But you know, who knows - Deathcow or I may have toked up with her at some point. Why ruin a good story. yes ... it's coming back to me now ...
It was February of 1987. A boombox with Judas Priest was playing Hell Bent for Leather. We were behind the Wasilla Carrs supermarket, in the little stand of trees there. Pepsi and Mountain Dew Cans littered the snow. They were all deformed into makeshift pipes -- punctured, used and discarded.
Much like the girls who clustered around the heavy metal boys in that chilly circle.
I was in my light Member's Only jacket, defying the freezing air. She was wearing a ski jacket. Her hair was poofed up in a ball, frozen on top of her head. I was close to her, I could smell the Aquanet that made her hair perform its unnatural act.
"Pass the pipe Sarah" she was holding her breath - the Pepsi can saddling its small package of pungent herb.
"Hold, on - I got room for one more." She croaked in reply, sucking the last of the green down into the can. Nothing left but burning ashes. "Here you go, enjoy that." She snickered, walking off into the dark.
"Dude, that's so uncool". I dropped the can into the beaten snow watching her fading figure return to the light, while I stayed in the darkness of the wood. Judas Priest played on.

I'm going to offend some people here but I have to.

This guy has it all, pro choice and anti 2nd amendment.
Just because I support the 2nd amendment does not make me a religious conservative. I support the constitution, what does that make me?
And know I wont explain it to you naysayers out there, this guy is just the same as the other guy if not worse. He is "A peace loving decoy ready for retaliation." (-Dirty harry gorillaz).
He says he is pro gun, yet he supports the ban in Chicago, and in the District of Columbia even though they struck it down. Yet it is still illegal to own any automatic or semi auto gun? That's every gun except revolvers and lever actions and pump shot guns. Not to mention the class 3 weapons, that are classified assault. That usually means any weapon with a "bayonet lug", recoil suppressors, or heat plating (commonly seen on shotguns particularly the Spas series.)

9 Senators Chuck Schumer and John Kerry had both cosponsored S. 1431 in 2003, a bill that would have banned any semi-auto shotgun that also contained a pistol grip, which the bill defined as "a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip." According to that definition, just about any semi-automatic shotgun would be banned.
10 See supra note 6.
11 About the so-called "assault weapons" ban, Obama says, "I believe we need to renew -- not roll back -- this common sense gun law." See supra note 8.
12 See supra note 5.
13 As a state senator, "Obama regularly supported gun-control measures, including a ban on semiautomatic 'assault weapons' and a limit on handgun purchases to one a month." "Obama Record May be Gold Mine for Critics," Associated Press, January 17, 2007.
14 On July 28, 2005, Senator Obama voted for a provision requiring gun dealers to include the sale of a lock-up-your-safety device with every handgun sold. The amendment, offered by Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI), passed by a vote of 70-30. The provision amended the gun makers' protection act (S. 397).
15On July 29, 2005, Senator Obama voted against S. 397, a bill that was designed to put an end to the frivolous lawsuits that were threatening to put many gun dealers out of business. While an argument could be made that a pro-gun Senator might vote against this bill because it contained a lock-up-your-safety provision (see supra note 14), the fact that Obama voted in favor of that trigger lock amendment (but against the overall bill) indicates his real animus against helping gun dealers protect themselves from the anti-gun lawsuits that were aimed at driving them into bankruptcy.
16 On July 13, 2006, Sen. Obama voted for Emergency Powers language that saw only 16 of the most ardent anti-gun senators vote against it. The amendment provides that no money can be used by federal agents to confiscate firearms during a declared state of emergency. The amendment was added to the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill (HR 5441).
17 On January 18, 2007, Senator Obama voted against a pro-gun amendment to strike language in S. 1 that would infringe upon the free speech rights of groups like Gun Owners of America. The amendment, which passed, struck requirements that would have required GOA to monitor and report on its communications with its members, and could easily have led to government demands for GOA's membership list (a.k.a. registration).
18 Obama has frequently made statements which indicate that he would restrict the interstate sale of firearms. For example, he told the NAACP that, "We've got to make sure that unscrupulous gun dealers aren't loading up vans and dumping guns in our communities, because we know they're not made in our communities. There aren't any gun manufacturers here, right here in the middle of Detroit." Senator Barack Obama, at the NAACP Presidential Primary Forum, July 12, 2007.

I have know problem with commonsense law, but don't lie about your record. I support background checks and the tests needed to get a CCW.

This argument has nothing to do with pro choice or pro life in which case I am indifferent.

Bidi, Bidi, Bidi, YES! YES! YES! Actually, here in Sliver City, er... Silver City, NM, cigarettes containing Clove are NOT legal. Some residents actually resort to hiding their clove Bidis in their Indica/Sativa stash to fool the Herb Police (O.K., just kidding about the "Herb Police").
What are your favorite album covers? (Art Talk Post)
That Herb Albert album cover is legendary. I was just over at my friend's place last night, and he has that album framed next to the Johnny Cash album Live at Folsom Prison which is also a pretty awesome cover. Not that it's overly stylized, but knowing it's a close up picture taken at the live prison concert of him sweating and most likely in mid-song makes it all the more cooler.
I really dig the Revolver album cover from The Beatles. It used to be in my father's LP collection when I was a kid, and I always thought it was trippy. And, I really love the Pink Floyd Animals album, because eventhough it appears to be a painting, it's really a photograph. From Wikipedia: "The giant, helium-filled pig seen on the cover was actually flown over Battersea Power Station for the photo shoot."

Some of my parents records that I liked:
-Herb Alpert - Whipped Cream (I can't tell you how many hours I stared at that album cover)
-Nat King Cole
-John Denver
-Kenny Rogers
-Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water - I practically memorized every word to every song on that album, because it had the lyrics on the back
-LOTS of traditional Irish music records. My dad's parents were both from Ireland. The Irish Rovers were one of his favorites.
-Dean Martin
In reply to this comment by schmawy:
Ditto! Just replace Styx with Jethro Tull and Kansas with Motorhead, Maiden, and Priest. Prior to that it was my parent's records, Fats Domino, Beachboys, and Johnny Cash.
In reply to this comment by kronosposeidon:
Did you ever have an extension cord for those big puffy cans? I had a 25-foot extension cord for my phones, so that I could wander all over my bedroom while I rocked out on "Glass Houses", my very first vinyl record. Followed by:
2. Styx - Paradise Theatre
3. AC/DC - Back In Black
4. Styx - Grand Illusion
5. Rush - Moving Pictures
6. Pink Floyd - The Wall
7. Van Halen - I
8. Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
9. Pink Floyd - Meddle
10. Kansas - Leftoverture
11. Pink Floyd -Wish You Were Here
12. Rush - Permanent Waves
And the rest are kind of blur after that, but those were my first 12 disciples. I'll always remember.
You may be right, I may be crazy.
In reply to this comment by schmawy:
Nor did I fall asleep every night wearing big puffy headphones with the curly cord listening to an 8-track copy of Songs From the Attic that I bought at Bradlees with my lawn-mowing money. If you ever hear this rumor it is a complete fabrication.

Burn One Down - Ben Harper
Let us burn one
from end to end
and pass it over
to me my friend
burn it long, we'll burn it slow
to light me up before I go
if you don't like my fire
then don't come around
cause I'm gonna burn one down
yes I'm gonna burn one down
my choice is what I choose to do
and if I'm causing no harm
it shouldn't bother you
your choice is who you choose to be
and if you're causin' no harm
then you're alright with me
if you don't like my fire
then don't come around
cause I'm gonna burn one down
yes I'm gonna burn one down
herb the gift from the earth
and what's from the earth
is of the greatest worth
so before you knock it try it first
you'll see it's a blessing
and not a curse
if you don't like my fire
then don't come around
cause I'm gonna burn one down
yes I'm gonna burn one down

Why Do ALL Europeans Hate America?
I wasn't able to read everything here, but I thought there were a few things I could add to:
1) A few people seemed to use hate speech on the internet as proof of the virulence of anti-Americanism in Europe. Thing is, the Internet is a radical place. If the internet represented society as it really is, Ron Paul would have won the nomination for president. I'm an American and just last year studied abroad in England for six months--I never experienced any anti-Americanism whatsoever, anywhere. People were lovely to us (my friend and I) both in Britain and in France, even when we displayed full-on our horrible ignorance of French. The worst I ever got? I pronounced "herb" like "urb" and was gently teased.
2) Yes, America's in the wrong in a lot of ways, I agree with that. But I think there's also the phenomenon of scapegoating, which a few people touched upon. It's just easier to make everything an us-them scenario, and everyone loves to hate America, the big snarling overdog. We've got more eyes on us than any other country, and now that we've been stuck in such an awful administration for so long, every further misstep is spotlighted like it is for no other country. Say, what's Japan been up to lately? How about Italy? We know these countries also both have controversial governments, but they receive vastly less attention because they aren't under such constant hyper-critical surveillance (yes, they also aren't as intrusive and haven't committed acts quite as bad as we have in recent years, and we DO hear about them in the news, I'm not saying we don't hear anything; the point still stands).
3) One comment, by tgop, really stuck out to me because they said America doesn't seem to "learn from its mistakes." I would hope the world is witnessing the complete opposite--this election is the first in which both a woman and an African-American man are up for the nomination. The fact that they are even _running_ should be a sign to the world that Americans are also unhappy with their current administration, and that change is on the way.
...But maybe I'm just beating a horse long dead...
Geek Eats! How to make Eggplant Parmesan
^I'd have to say that I can't really protest or disagree with your critique. In fact, I think it makes this post entertaining tp see that it inspired some quality insults from the choggster. Maybe I'll find an actual good recipe for eggplant parm to sift after this goofiness. I don't really cook any Italian dishes, so I'll take your word on the fact that this is an uninspired recipe. Fair enough. Needs more fresh herbs!

es Erickson. My parents had that album, and I was fond of staring at that sleeve a LOT.

The best Bond song. Maybe because; music by Marvin Hamlisch, (cheesy looking guy but quite talented), with lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager.
Who remembers that Carly album cover from "Playing Possum" with her on her knees in that teddy? Without a doubt the hottest album cover of the early 70s. My prior favorite, the whipped cream girl, Dolores Erickson, on the Tijuana Brass LP.

Odysseus

I rule.
Poseidon
For your sin of pride, I curse you for all eternity.
(Unfazed, Odysseus boards his ship and sets SAIL for Greece, where his family is awaiting his RETURN from Troy. A STORM happens, and it drives them off course into the MEDITERRANEAN, where they come upon a strange LAND owned by the giant Cyclops POLYPHEMUS who eats some of the men ALL UP, but then they ESCAPE. Still lost, they run into the island of the sorceress CIRCE who turns some of Odysseus' men into ANIMALS, and it takes YEARS before they escape, and then they sail by some singing SIRENS, but they can't hear because they have STUFF in their ears. Then they come upon an island where there is a field of HERBS, and they all get HIGH, until Odysseus says it's time to GO. Then Odysseus' men let a WIND out of a BAG, and some more men DIE. And they sail on to HADES to talk to some DEAD people, and some more men DIE. And they steer the ship between the six headed monster SCYLLA and the torrential whirlpool CHARYBDIS, and Scylla makes some more men DIE, and Charybdis makes the rest of them DIE. Then the ship busts up into a JILLION pieces, but Odysseus is SAVED by the nymph Calypso who confines him to her ISLAND because she thinks he's HOT, and she wants his BODY. Then years later she lets him GO, but Poseidon is determined to terrorize him FURTHER. And then SUDDENLY Odysseus has an IDEA.)
Odysseus
Poseidon, I am sorry.

Ok, you can go home now.
