Reckless Woman Throws Her Baby During a Bus Fight

Love And Dying: Meet Ryan Woods

spoco2 says...

Fricken heartbreaking.

I'm like him in that if I found out I was dying it would be far less the fear of me dying and almost entirely being shattered to think about my kids losing their father. The part of him putting aside things for his kids to draw on over their lives really makes my heart break for the poor kids not having their dad around.

They both seem like incredibly nice people, and while it's absolutely not fair and horrible for something like this to befall them, it does show how well some people can handle things like this. With bravery and humility and pragmatism and love.

As a dad to a boy who has spent months of his life in hospitals with numerous heart surgeries, I can definitely relate.

I also say 'screw you' to America's health care system that these sorts of fund raisers are necessary. My family has not been one cent out of pocket with the surgeries.

Heart breaking, I'm off to purchase/donate.

@kymbos @dag I've listened to 'this American life' for the past 2 years. I'm Australian and it relates to one and all. The podcast is one of those pure gems that you find...a real incite into the human condition. I do love looking forward to it every week. It is real, true Broadcast/Investigative radio. Every episode follows a theme in various acts (different stories):

Example episode 368: Who do you think you are?

...In which talks about the oral history of the great depression, parking tickets and more. 'This American Life' can be funny at times, informative and heart breaking. I recomend you all give it a try Thier podcasts are free for streaming on the site.

Donno how old you guys are, I'm 26 and people have been dropping like fucking flies lately. It sucks.

Luckily we'll all make it to the singularity and be able to live forever on the Internet!!

Be strong bare and keep your loved ones close.

Just stumbled on this. I'm sorry for your losses and my heart breaks for your uncle.

By the way, my Aunt Gene died on Friday. It's a blessing, really.
Now I worry about her husband. They had the heartache of burying all three of their childen -- my cousin Gaylan, age 57, died in his sleep last fall. And now my uncle has buried his wife. He does have grandkids, but he hasn't lived alone in over 50 years. I don't think he'll be with us by Christmas. He has a bad heart, and this is just too much, you know?
A generation is leaving us. My family has been lucky to keep so many for so long -- but now they are going, and going quick. We've lost five in the last two years. Plus Gaylan.
My dad is still here. In good shape mentally. He likes where he is, a VA Center in Oklahoma. It has a fishing pond out back. He is in charge of the fishing tackle closet, keeps everything in good order. When one of the guys has trouble with his reel, he goes to my dad. When some of the simple medical equipment jams, he fixes it for the nurses. He's 87. Amazing.

Dad Confronts Abortion Protesters

Serious upvote.
My cousin and his wife recently suffered a miscarriage of their first child, everything about it was horrible.
To start things off, she gets migranes, seriously bad ones. And the medication she was taking needed to stop if she wanted to have a child, so, she did.
After a few months (remember, months, and she suffered severe migranes) they finally were able to conceive, and they were going to announce it at my cousins wedding. (she would have been about 5 months pregnant at that point, so about 8 months of no medication, and morning sickness, etc.)
The day of one of my cousins wedding, none of that family (aunt, uncle, coussin & wife) showed up. Nobody knew why (We didn't know they were trying for a baby at this point) but around noon, someone finally got word of what was up.
Apparently Beth had suffered a miscarriage, for a few days she had noticed the baby wasn't kicking, and found out the day before the wedding that, sure enough, the baby was lost.
She had to wait 3 days before she could get to an abortion clinic to have it removed, or she would've had to wait longer in a hospital.
And to think of all the pain and suffering she had already been through, coupled with the trauma of losing her first child, and having to walk into one of those clinics, tears most likely streaming down her face, and having to deal with people like those two women?
My heart breaks for her. I can't honestly believe people would do that and think they're solving anything.

This is the reason why we need *promotepost or *qualitypost. (Maybe transfer a power-point for recognition, max of one per comment, etc...)

It's a sad story, but it shows that these stories are out there. I have a lot of problems with what basically is temper-tantrum rallies/protests. The only protests that should be in anger are when a right is denied by the government. Write your Senator or Congressman for the other stuff. (This would force them to think out their ideas when it's penned on paper.)

A faithful Mormon speaks out against Prop 8 in Church...

peggedbea says...

heres a story.

ive had a really really awful summer. my mormon mothers answer to this is that its time for me to do some internal searching and its time for me to find a "strong man". her suggestion to how this is to be accomplished is to join one of the online LDS dating services. my mormon friend mentioned above also received the same suggestion from his mother this summer. i would never do that any poor mormon boy of course but i did have to check these sites out for hilarity factor.

what i found was not hilarious. it was heart breaking. lonely mormon virgins who do not fit into the uniquely american mormon cultural ideals of how youre supposed to be. noone does of course. but those who can, fake it and end up married in their early 20's and fulfill their eternal obligation to their father in heaven to breed and be the patriarchs over perfect mormon families. those who cant fake it end up lonely 30 year old virgins on religious internet dating sites. watching everyone around them "happily" married and spiritually right with god. an unmarried mormon woman isnt really responsible for this crime. an unmarried mormon man is an abject eternal failure. the pressure from the church to marry in the temple and breed is huge. there is no place in church culture for anyone who doesnt socially or politically match up with the rest of the group. so on this site were talking about uber nerdy dudes who would have a hard time "fitting in" within the confines of normal society. but there are of course other nerds in the world with which they could find satisfying friendships and a home of sorts. but theyre quietly encouraged their whole lives NOT to look for companionship outside of the confines of their religion. to associate with too many non mormons is to tempt the devil and fall prey to damnation. my heart hurts for these men. my search for amusement brought me great sadness and pain.

one of them is one of my best and only friends. he is the male version of myself. i have alot of anger in me right now for what an oppressive religious upbringing can do to someone with a mental illness, an addictive disposition and a natural rebellious streak.
