Thanks for the good questions.

a) yes
b) yes
c) no
d) yes
e) n/a

If you exclude suicide, the USA doesn't have a staggering rate of gun deaths. It is high compared to some other western countries, but on a world rate it is still very low.

When looking at public health (which is the reason for reducing gun violence) you need to be pragmatic. What will actually give a good outcome for public health? In this case there are about a half a dozen things that kill and maim US citizens at much higher rates than firearms do.

E.g. you are much more likely to be killed in a car crash than murdered by someone with a firearm. Cars by accident kill more people in the USA each year than firearms do on purpose. That's some scary shit right there. Think about that for a second, cars are more dangerous than firearms and people are not even trying to kill themselves or someone else with one. So as an example, you'd be better off trying to fix this first.

Or fix the suicide rate in the US. People aren't in a happy place there.

Obesity kills more people. Doctor malpractice kills more people. Etc. But these are hard issues to tackle that will cost billions or trillions. The low hanging fruit is firearms.

Free health care and mental health care, a better social security system, and various other means would all have magnificent outcomes on everyday life in the USA. But again, they cost a lot and require a paradigm shift.

Have you ever encountered interpersonal violence against you (i.e. had someone attack you)? Or have you maybe worked in a job where you often come into contact with people who have been attacked? I find people change their mind after they realize that they were only ever one wrong turn away from some crazy bastard who wanted to hurt them badly.

Putting the legal concerns (It is in the constitution, so we have to heed it) aside, what do you think about the Second Amendment?

Was it meant to enable the people to
a) defend against foreign incursion (in lieu of a standing army)?
b) defend against an oppressive government (as a militia)?
c) assume police duties?
d) defend themselves (in absence of police)?
e) none of the above? (Please state what you think its intended meaning was.)

For your selected reason/s given above, does it/do they still apply today?

What do you think is the reason for the staggering amount of gun violence/deaths in the USA when compared with other countries?

Is the reason for the Second Amendment worth the amount of gun violence in the USA?

Full disclosure:
I am genuinely interested in your answers since you seem to have given this some thought (an impression I frankly do not have about bobknight33) .
I am not from the USA and against any form of private gun ownership except under some very rare circumstances.

Key & Peele - Negrotown

lantern53 says...

these guys usually do race-neutral comedy but this one panders to black fears a bit, too bad

Apparently Negrotown is not a happy place, but actually the county jail. If those guys go there, they'll find a lot of black people who have nothing in common with them, in other words, poor, black, uneducated, criminal. Also will be some nasty white folks who have made a whole mess of their lives with drugs and bad choices, same as the others.

Game of Thrones Season 5 Trailer

Oh, them? They retired and got a nice cottage in the woods They still have gorgeous wolves that protect them and they just LIVE off the land, you know.

Certainly no one gets DECAPITATED... Or... DECAPITATED WITH THEIR CHILDHOOD PET'S HEAD STAKED ONTO THEIR LIFELESS CORPSE.

Just happy in the woods. Singing songs from the Disney movie Frozen. Authors with "R.R." getting double penetrated in the middle of their name like happy places and happy things. Happy trails. That's how they roll, those double dicked R.R.s.

Too bad they didn't mention that the majority of host club clients are in the sex industry themselves. For a bit more depth, The Great Happiness Place is a crazy doc about host clubs.

Hot Twins Stretch Each Other

braschlosan says...

You know how they say "Don't feed the troll" well I am going to disregard that advice.

Don't act like a pedantic tool. You know damn well this wouldn't have made it to the Sift it it wasn't sexual in nature.

If the video was exactly the same except showed two average looking people would any of us upvote it? Answer truthfully.

"Sexuality is the expression of male and female. It is possessing sexual powers, sexual feelings and desires as well as sexual orientation or preference."
The title of the sift is "Hot Twins Stretch Each Other" and just below your cry for attention was a "*promote sexy twins"

I have to assume you fit into one of three attention seeking categories - Angry at men for being attracted to women, Angry at men because you're to old to get beautiful women or just trolling for the sake of stirring the pot.

This is supposed to be a happy place. Stop taking away a great video from the *sexuality channel for your own agenda.

It's so stupid to say that someone had the opportunity to sort themselves out and didn't, that who cares she was just a druggy. Just because someone doesn't find the strength, or the things that made them turn to drugs in the first place are still there in their lives, doesn't mean they deserved to die.
When you have a serious addiction like that, you don't enjoy it, it consumes you. Sometimes you can beat it, but it's not as simple as just stopping. Once you know that you can escape all of the pain in the world and how to do it, it takes an iron will to not use that as a fallback. Money can't buy your mental health clearly. The stupidity of anyone who uses hard drugs is the fact they tried it in the first place. Everyone knows the huge risk you take. After that, it's just Russian roulette.
I agree with deathcow, I thought she'd find her happy place one day and defeat it, she spent 2 years cleaning herself up when she took herself out of the limelight and moved away. Seems like she should have never gone back.

I never said she deserved to be dead,I said I didn't care. She could stop the life she was living,it takes courage to do that. And trust me,I know is not easy, but she could do better.I am just so tired of all this BS about her "oh what a legend" "oh she was so real" I speak for my personal own experience and I am here today because I chose to live. If you Live hard you die fast.

Hear, hear. I couldn't agree with you more. So many people seem ready to crow that she had it coming, as if somehow the fact that she had problems with drink and drugs meant that she somehow deserved to die from them. Alcohol and drugs can be pleasurable, of course, and pretty much all of us choose to indulge in either or both to a greater or lesser extent, but nobody chooses addiction.

No Joy

daxgaz says...

I grew up in Wichita and Joy Land was THE amusement park for a large area (the next closest park was 3hrs away). I have not been there in well over 20 years, but I still remember the layout of the park and know where each of these shots was taken. It's definitely sad to see somewhere that was such a happy place for many children decay like this.

However, to be fair, Joy Land really was a pretty low class operation for a very long time (as long as i can remember). What you can't see in this video is that there is a sewage treatment plant a few miles away (open pit type) and in the summer it would often waft through the park. Also, it got the nick name of "Gang Land" around town because it was near several bad neighborhoods. The gang kids (yes, there are gangs in Wichita Kansas), would have fights at the park. There were frequent fist fights, and occasionally stabbings and shootings. Additionally, The park was pretty small and the rides were poorly maintained. The scariest part of that roller coaster was seeing the occasional bolt come flying off as the coaster would go by and a regular rain of chipped paint coming down. I think at the time it was one of the oldest wooden coasters in operation and there is a reason they were phased out.

So, this video definitely causes mixed emotions in me. On the one hand, it's very sad to see a part of my childhood rot like this, but on the other hand, it's probably for the best that the place is gone.
