Shocking Police Behaviour OccupyMELBOURNE!

oritteropo says...

Most of them actually left when told to, the 100 or so who stayed really have no-one to blame but themselves. It shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone that our police are a bit heavy handed after the last few times this has happened.

Now as to whether the by-law they were violating is just is another question, but just remember our laws are NOT the same as in the U.S.

There was punching and kicking and pepper spray. This is from 1st hand eye witnesses and participants. Look at my other vid to see excessive force being used. You should have sympathy for them or else your moral compass is way off.
>> ^TheSofaKing:
Nobody being punched or kicked. No batons, no pepper spray, no tasers. I didn't even see anyone being handcuffed. I have no idea what the specific issue was at this location that prompted police to break up this demonstration and I can understand people not agreeing with that decision.... but to call this "shocking" is sadly melodramatic. Police officers were obviously told to break up the people in the specific area (people watching from the outer area appeared to be left alone). They did it professionally and did not appear to hurt anyone. The protesters screaming and carrying on (specifically the douche at 0:48) look like morons to me and I have no sympathy for them.

I took the title directly from the Youtube submitter, and believe the word "shocking" to be appropriate.

I'm sorry that the world has become such a place that someone like yourself has come to view the behavior shown in this video as normal. And that those who exercise their right to peacefully assemble in public are deserving of this kind of treatment from the people who are supposed to be sworn to protect their safety.

@joedirt I was thinking the same thing. The next time I get into a heated argument with a friend I have to try calling 911 with:
"HELP!!! There's a friend of mine in my house who won't leave!"
"Ok, is he still in the house sir???"
"Yes, I have him handcuffed to a pipe and he still refuses to leave!"
"I've got the police on their way to take care of that trespassing scumbag."

I think you have a Monty Python skit right there

NYPD Getting Violent at Wall Street Protest

cracanata says...

I don't remember when was the last time I've seen a normal arrest, you know the standing up to be handcuffed type.
Even when you comply cops will slam you to the ground and play rough. I think we can all agree that pain will make you move on the ground, almost like their training by design is meant to make you "resist arrest".

Walgreens Pharmacist Fired For Firing at Armed Robbers

shagen454 says...

Oooo, I have a fantastic Walgreen's story. My friend was in Walgreen's getting some prescription medicine when an african-american woman was detained by Walgreen's staff for theft. She was yelling & making a scene & the employees handcuffed her to a pole.

My friend FLIPPED out on the Walgreen's staff surrounding the woman they were holding captive - I forget what he said since I wasn't there - I'm pretty sure he was telling them to let her go, they have no right. He probably went on a Zizek-esque political rant.

Anyway, a couple of days later was the World Series, in which we won. The streets became a riot, people were burning buses, people were running over crowds of people in their cars, it was crazy. My friend happened to be witnessing the mayhem unfold down Market Street. He was passing by that Walgreen's with the entire affair still burning him up on the inside - when he noticed one of the people that had taken part in this incident standing by the entrance to the Walgreens also watching the mayhem unfold. He walked up to the guy, "Hey, remember me, motherfucker?" And then proceeded to SHOVE HIS WHOLE HAND DOWN THE GUY'S THROAT. Haha! Bizarre. This is only one of the reasons employees at large corporations should just let 'em go & let security deal with these issues.

Las Vegas Police Beating Caught On Tape

Jerykk says...

>> ^Ryjkyj:
astr0, MrFisk and MarineGunrock are absolutely right. Anyone who is being beaten by an authority figure for acting within their legal rights, and then cries out are such pussies. Forget about the fact that you can totally hear the pepper spray. Cops totally have the right to put their hands on you any time they want, and if you are afraid when they do it, then it's like "two for flinching", and they are totally exonerated. Especially if it doesn't make a loud noise. When I beat my six month old son, sometimes my wife can't hear it in the other room. So if he cries out in pain, I usually give him an extra shot in the testicles, because he's such a whiny little bitch. But don't worry. You can't actually "hear it" when I do it. So it's fine. I'm really glad that there are people like astr0 and MrFisk and MarineGunrock in the world. Otherwise, we would be ruled by a bunch of people who cry when you invade their personal space while wearing a gun, pepper spray, a large composite bludgeon designed for cracking bone, and handcuffs to make sure you can't fight back while being violated and stripped of your personal rights. What a bunch of little bitches they all are. Here's a question that MarineGunrock and MrFisk and astr0 might be able to answer. Sometimes, I'll pick a girl up in a bar. Then, after I drug her, take her back to my garage, tie her up, and show her my collection of boning knives, she screams like a little bitch. Now here's my question: what could possibly set her off like that? I mean, it's not like you can hear anything happening to her. WTF? Right? Remember, here in America, it's not assault if you just force someone to the ground and break their camera. You actually have to make a noise while doing it. And that holds doubly true if they are screaming.>> ^MarineGunrock: I'm honestly surprised they didn't delete the footage. Also, why he was screaming like a little bitch? I didn't hear st striking or the click of a taser. Pain compliance, maybe?

Out of curiosity, at what point in the video do you hear pepper spray? To me, it sounded like the guy was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed, at which point he started screaming "HHEEELLLLPPPP" for a few minutes until he ran out of breath and began acting in a somewhat civilized manner. If he had been pepper sprayed, his screaming would have been a lot more erratic and it would have taken him a lot longer to recover.

I'm not saying that the cops didn't handle this badly, but to label this a "beating" is a bit hyperbolic.

Newark Cop: "I Can Do Whatever the Hell I Want"

jmzero says...

CBS? Police messed with the wrong camera man - they're going to get worked. Huge media outlets LOVE this kind of thing - their intrepid journalists doing everything to get the story, pushing back against authoritarian power. Getting choked and handcuffed: prime-time gold. City/PD will fold quick and burn dude like paper.

Hopefully the fallout will result in policies that protect the non-huge-media camera users.

Rolemodel Cop Finds Gun, Remains Calm

It's not fair, man. So, people can walk around with guns that can kill people and not produce ID, but if I'm walking home like 2 minutes from my house and have a sip of beer and a cop asks me for my ID and I don't give it to him I end up being hauled back to the station and handcuffed to a metal grate. Fucking US of A!

Sounds like you've got a false arrest case there. Don't make other things illegal just because someone wrongly arrested you.
