Horrible Conditions in Dent County Jail

worm says...

My opinion may be unpopular too, but I see a room full of people who aren't going anywhere, and if they really wanted to improve their condition then a little elbow grease can clean that place right up for about $15. Hell, throw in a few cans of paint/supplies for another $100.

Oh, and how about this novel idea: don't like what jail looks/smells/feels like? How about making sure you do whatever it takes to NOT go back. Its a jail, not a boarding house for indigent children who cannot fend for themselves.

Yeah, I just don't have much of a bleeding heart for the repeat criminal. Maybe we can save this type of jail for the multiple-time repeat customers and keep the jails that are barely above livable for the first timers.

Avatar Style Mech

SFOGuy says...

Yup; here is the Live Science take---in brief--it's a conceptual artist's thing (Vitaly Bulgarov) who has faked a website and even the Korea development company...

"New video clips purporting to show a 13-foot-tall (4 meters) humanoid robot piloted by a person in its torso look like something straight out of "Avatar" or "Transformers," but a Live Science investigation has revealed reasons to believe some skepticism might be in order.

The robot clips have been picked up by a variety of online news and technology outlets, including Kotaku and Wired UK. But the South Korean company that is supposedly developing the robot has virtually no online presence and was unfamiliar to robotics researchers contacted by Live Science.

Furthermore, the only source for the videos or any information about them is the Facebook and Instagram pages of a designer whose website mentions a conceptual art project about a "fictional robotics corporation that develops its products in a not-so-distant future."

The designer, Vitaly Bulgarov, told Live Science that the robot is real. However, he declined to share the names of scientists or engineers working on the project, and messages to the purported CEO of the company went unreturned. [Gallery: See Images of the Giant Humanoid Robot]

Mystery business

According to Bulgarov's Facebook page, the videos were taken in South Korea at a company called Korea Future Technology. Almost all references to this company online appear to be associated with Bulgarov's posts and the subsequent news pieces on the robot. Bulgarov said the company has been operating for several years."

""Robots are messy business," said Christian Hubicki, a postdoctoral robotics researcher at Georgia Tech who worked on the DURUS robot. "They get torn apart and put back together over and over, and transmission grease gets all over the place. Even the nice white floor is beautifully unscuffed [in these videos]. Never once during likely hundreds of hours of debugging the giant robot did it kick in a way that scratched it up?"

The people around the robot also appear to be too close for safety and are not following the standard practice of wearing safety goggles, Hubicki said.

Bulgarov said the company's CEO required that the lab be clean, and that the videos had been brightened in postproduction. Fearing said robotics labs in Asia can be relatively neat.

However, there's another problem: Hubicki told Live Science that the robot's leg joints look unusually smooth given the force that the step of a 1.5-ton robot would exert on the motors. [5 Reasons to Fear Robots]"

It really does look completely fake. The perfect lighting on the upper body is unrealistic.

Sweet Revenge

newtboy says...

Because that's not a car horn, it's a train horn. That can certainly cause hearing damage, or a heart attack if the victim has a condition. The volume makes it violent.
I also thought the reaction was out of proportion...as in too small a reaction....she should have thrown burning hot, grease dripping fries at his face endangering one of HIS senses like he did hers. ;-)

Payback said:

Not sure how honking a horn constitutes a violent or harassing act.

...getting a drink thrown all over you and your truck, however? Especially if it could have been a mistake?

Rolls Royce New Space Age Car

shagen454 says...

I like the concept of taking this into a 3D modeling program and then after they say "and made history" the top opens up with a fat slob sprawled out on that couch with cigarette butts, chips and grease stains all over it, coke stains on the floor. The music stops as they look on appalled and then the voice continues, "those who pursue perfection forge their own path" hahaha!

Explosive Oil Fire at 2500fps - The Slow Mo Guys

SFOGuy says...

Scary if you understand the image of a person pouring a pot full of water onto a flaming stove top oil fire (french fries, fried chicken, etc).

Snuff the fire out by throwing a lid on the pan.
Use an aerosol extinguisher.
Use a "K" class grease extinguisher, or Halon.

Don't throw water.
Burn units are sad, sad places.

Listening to that still makes me get sentimental and kinda emotional

My first intro to Skynyrd was in a movie theater when i was just a kid. I was there to see the movie Grease and they played the Lynyrd skynyrd short tribute as a trailer. It made a memorable impression, as at the end, it said that they died in a plane crash. https://youtu.be/IbfrL8uH0Z4

In seventh grade(private christian school) some kids convinced the school to let them play a christian 'Skynyrd' song (Freebird) at Wednesdays chapel we all had to intend on a weekly basis. They changed a few lyrics to make it god friendly then rocked a 15 minute guitar solo. It was hilarious and pretty awesome.

Just last week i went to see 'Book of Mormon" in San Francisco and after the show as we were filing out someone yelled FREEBIRD as if there was gonna be an encore. All us older people smiled.

Today, some eight months after the fact, I noticed that someone uploaded a fairly high quality version of one of my all time favorite videos.

Truck Attempts A Ship Boarding On Sketchy Planks

radx says...

I suspect one of four ways:

a) unloaded onto the pier in a similar manner,
b) jacked up and placed on rollers,
c) 107 point turn, Austin Powers style
d) or plain old elbow grease.

How did they get the truck lined up in it's initial position on such a narrow pier?

First Microwave Upgrade in Forever: Infrared Heat Sensor

mxxcon says...

Generally such microwave have heat builtin exhaust vents.

If you are using your stove/oven a lot(like in a restaurant or prepare at least 3 meals a day there), then perhaps it's more prudent to keep your microwave elsewhere. In my last apartment I had my microwave above my stove for 13 years. Other than cleaning light grease accumulation from the front once a year(or even rarer), no problems at all.

FlowersInHisHair said:

Side note - is it a good idea to have a microwave directly above your stove top? What with all the water vapour and heat from below.

What's the point of watching/cleaning the watch is he'll reassmble it his bare hands anyway...all that sweat, oil, grease and dirt will go right back in.

"Stupidity of American Voter," critical to passing Obamacare

enoch says...

so you agree with me yet still downvote my comment?
i thought i was being respectful by explaining my downvote, something i am under zero compulsion to do,at all.

and yet you go off on a childish tantrum and systematically downvote about 3 hours of content in my pque...in FIVE minutes! which can lead me to only one conclusion:
emotional reflex response to a negative analysis to a useless and irrelevant video you posted.

you do not understand why this is irrelevant?
i have to admit a certain embarrassment for you that i have to point this out,but ok,take my hand and i will walk you through it so you can better understand:

1.air contains oxygen
2.water is wet
3.everybody poops
4.politicians and governments lie

you had an opportunity here to reveal just how convoluted and deceptive the process had been perverted and corrupted.how back door deals and the greased palms of certain politicians helped fascillitate the passing of obamacare.

how big pharma and the health insurance industry spent 300 million in the first week alone to kill this bill.or how those very same politicians allowed a tax on that health care bill to remain in the bill.

you could have added context to what really transpired and the mafia principle was in full effect.government gets their slice and the health industry continues to be allowed to plunder the american people treasure.

but no.
you posted a 53 second video of a politician caught in a moment of truth.
a truth WE ALREADY KNOW,with the sole purpose of "look!see! governments are bad!

no context.
no backstory.
no nuanced information to give people a clearer picture on just how badly we are all being fucked.
just a 53 second prop so you can get on your soapbox.

so yeah..the video is irrelevant.

unless of course...you think everybody around you is a stupid child and needs you to hold their hands to reveal the underlying truth.if that is the case you have failed miserably.

well,i dont need you to hold my hand.i am quite capable of coming to my own conclusions.

i am becoming quite tired of your temper tantrums.so if my words have angered your tender sensibilities then feel free to go on another targeted downvoting spree..i really dont care.

@blankfist is a die hard libertarian.thoughtful and precise in his arguments (sans the farting cats),and you sir..are no blankfist.
