Adrian's Avatar Spectacular! (Blog Entry by Fusionaut)

Fusionaut says...

4 and 5 are my favourite too oh and 6 as well >> ^kronosposeidon:

I have to say that despite the semi-Gothic/Fride-of-Franksenstein vibe I'm getting from these images, you still don't have to look hard at all to see the beauty of the woman beneath the paint. Pics #4 and #5 probably show it the best.
I probably shouldn't say 'semi-Gothic' or 'Bride of Frankenstein', because not only are they crude approximations, but also because I believe that when you try to pigeonhole any type of art you're diminishing it a little. Let's just say that when it comes to do my Danse Macabre, I hope she'll be there to take my hand.

Zero Punctuation: Fable 3

>> ^MilkmanDan:

Yep, I have Fable 1. I'd agree that Fable 1 isn't really a sandbox game, but there are so few games that are that I tend to take games that aren't really in that mold and play them as if they were. As long as I don't have to screw around with too much story to get to where I can just run along and do my own thing, I can live with it.
Even the GTA series, probably the most popular example of a fairly "pure" sandbox design, often require you to do some random story crap before you actually open up the map... There's always roadblocks at the start of the game unless you mod them out!

Morrowind, Fallout, Gothic, Risen, Oblivion, Just Cause 2, are all more sanboxy than Fable. Maybe even The Witcher, though that is strongly story driven but in a very good way, much more gray and mature than Fable.

And then imagine what will happen when every advertiser is competing for your attention by monetizing and infiltrating those interstitial spaces.>> ^GeeSussFreeK:
Imagine with me a strange new future. A future were augmented reality replaces the normal. Were buildings are plane, with no wall paper and decorative niceties. Where all (much) fashion and art isn't physical, but displayed directly in your brain/retina. Why paint my wall when I can just change a setting in my AR homepage. Today, I want every display space of my path down to my work to be in the theme of Gothic, Classical, Newaged, or Blue! Reality is so yesterday, prepare for augmented reality.

Indeed, perhaps we wouldn't mind though...like google? But if I could litter my view with a list of great artwork and architecture that some website compiled, perhaps an ad here or there would be worth it I am just imagineering here. "This wall brought to you be Sears"

I'm sorry, but i've gotta call the horrorshow tag into question.

The description of horrorshow is "Monsters, Murderers, & Mayhem! All Night Freakshow Action at the Horrorshow Collective! Slasher Films, Monster Flicks, & Gothic Fantasies old & new... Music and Animation... bottom line, whatever makes you scream in the dark!"

This may belong in * fear, but not horrorshow.

Cheating Death - Missed by Inches

Upvoted for lack of taste from commentors. I thought the intro was a good setup, shit tons better then the blue wall of text youtube videos have been going with for the past 6 years. I was actually impressed at the quality of the costume, not exactly something you can buy at target. As for the music, it was also up my ally. I belive a more accurate term is gothic rock. Either way I am a total sucker when you combine female vocals with orchestral rock.

As for the content, a mixed bag for the most part. Some of these clips are quite anchient, and I would have prefered slow motion out takes to have been spliced in tigher and shorter, as to quickly get to the next clip. also I had pretty much seen all the videos in the front of the video that got slow motion replays as they have been in animated gif form for years, but many of the videos near the end were new to me and didn't get replays. The jack knife and speeding van head shot was insane. Oh yea and I am still trying to figure out that one with the baby.

TYT: Anne Rice Leaves Christianity

radx says...

1) I didn't "brag" about being ignorant, I simply insinuated that not everybody has heard of her - including myself and what I'd assume to be the vast majority of people on this very continent - the same majority who have never heard of Tolstoy or Dostoyevsky either.

2) I do know about a particular movie called "Interview with a Vampire" and until earlier today, I didn't have the slightest clue - nor interest - as to who wrote the story it's based on. The same applies to hundreds of other movies, while we're at it.

3) I have no opinion of her, since I don't care about her. The purpose of my ocmment was to mention the odd impression one might get while reading the summary of the respective WP article - since she was born "Howard Allen" and is an "author of gothic, erotic, and religious-themed books". That is no reflection on her, but on the information revealed about her by the author of said article.>> ^mizila:

What a useful and constructive post, I like the part where you brag about being ignorant. Yes, most people recognize the name Anne Rice because she wrote a few vampire books including one called Interview with a Vampire... a book which was made into a movie starring a couple of little known thespians from a little town called Hollywood named Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. So yeah, most people over 20 have heard of Anne Rice.
Sorry, I'm not a fan of hers either, but what a stupid comment. "Oh somebody I've never heard of, why don't I look them up on wiki, scan the page for a couple seconds and tell everyone what opinions I've formed!!"

Jokes I like (Blog Entry by dag)

xxovercastxx says...

I'm a big fan of dark, witty and intelligent humor, but also of corny humor if delivered ironically. I do a lot of goofy things that nobody else will ever see or hear because they amuse me. A few years ago I was digging up pictures of Gothic architecture and churches to use as reference. I named the folder I threw them in "Holy Shit". It wasn't witty or intelligent, but it made me laugh to myself a little bit.

Toilet humor died a long time ago for me. It's too obvious. I've already thought of the punchline by the time you've gotten to it.

It's become apparent to me that my favorite humor is not the favorite humor of the Sift in general, based on which of my comments get applauded. This, for example, is one of my highest-voted jokes and yet I thought it was totally obvious and not especially funny. This, this, this and this, however, are hilarious to me.

Woman Gets House Arrest For Piercing "Gothic" Kittens

but it's still okay to chop of a dog's tail right?

I was told by someone with a doberman that they don't "chop" the tail off, they wind a rubber band very tightly on the tail of the puppies so that it cuts off circulation and the tail eventually dies and drops off. Doesn't really make it any less disgusting, imo.

Craig Ferguson Really Hates Twilight

yourhydra says...

im a pretty big vampire fan. Anne Rice is kick ass...(interview with a vampire, vampire lestat, queen of the dammed) beautiful Gothic Romantic novels they are (romantic in the sense of the Romantic arts, not romance)

i like the true blood series, she was heavily inspired by anne rice, the vamps n the tv show of that are a bit lame, and get better in season two i think. id call true blood a "guilty pleasure"

as for twilight....im sorry but a book written by a Mormon psycho intended to keep teens practicing abstinence, with a typical story and crap characters is puke worthy.

Swiss Voters Vote To Ban Minarets (Mosque Towers)

GeeSussFreeK says...

Hahahah I "love" that picture where it made them look like the spikey hide of some devilish demon. This is just absurd...most of the Gothic cathedrals are more ominous than a minaret. The violence of majority faction expressing itself in a government not bound by negative powers, but obligated to provide for the public "good".
