What Happens When A Woman Abuses A Man In Public?

Asmo says...

No, not take Weinstein for example, that is an entirely different case and it undermines your position to use such an obvious straw man.

Society promotes the concept that men are violent, women are not. Any man that uses physical violence on a women is evil and if a woman raises a hand to a man and he strikes her in defense, he would still be the one that had to explain himself. Look at the Duluth model re: domestic violence sometime to see how truly baked in the myth that men are the perps and women are the vics...

https://medium.com/iron-ladies/men-are-still-pigs-the-politicization-of-domestic-violence-2cfa7488c204 (written by a woman for noting)

Particularly salient.

It’s clear to me that despite the fact the Duluth Model has proven to be worthless, programs still adhere to the same principles. Men are still the automatic perpetrators, women are always victims. What’s worse is the men under attack by violent wives have no way of protecting themselves. Their right to self-defense in domestic violence cases has been cancelled.

I'm all for acknowledging that differences between the sexes is an absolutely real thing, but the long and the short of it is that women are basically allowed to assault men almost without consequences, but in the reverse situation the man would (justifiably) have the book thrown at him. And while men do have the physical advantage (although not always), they are hamstrung by society. The mere threat of a rape accusation (or far worse, the accusation that the husband has been abusing the kids) would silence most men in a heartbeat because they understand that the police, the judge, the social workers will believe the woman first.

Violence is wrong as is giving women a free pass because they rolled vagina in the game of life.

Fair enough, but these are separate issues, I agree with the premise of the video. But, while it would be a mistake to assume that men cannot be victims of abuse, it would also be a mistake to assume general equivalency. Take, Weinstein for example. Once he'd isolated his victims, they had to handle their situation with the added fear that he may physically overpower and rape them. With the gender roles reversed, the situation would in most cases not be the same. There is an extra dimension that needs to be considered resulting from the biological fact that men are bigger and stronger than women. I believe you do need to consider gender, even though it would be nice if you didn't.

Is reality real? Call of Duty May Have the Answer

GenjiKilpatrick says...

So if someone is gonna make a simulation of the universe..

It would likely be some Fermi Lab scientist who wanted to study the Big Bang.

They would reverse engineer the expansion of the universe as much as possible..

[ a thing that's already been done and being tweaked to get even better Planck length "resolution", as it were ]

And once they got the best estimations..

Would dump all those rules and variables into a quantum computer and run sim after sim, checking to see WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END!

Much like The Game of Life sim developed by mathematician John Conway.

necessary illusions-thought control in democratic societies

scheherazade says...

That statement is really a reflection of your own cognitive dissonance.

Chomsky doesn't pontificate about right/wrong or problems.

He's describing the applied game theory present in society.

If you think that's 'bad', then that's your own personal judgment of the matter.

Like 'the prince', his message is a conveyance of the relationship between intelligent actors manipulating perceptions, and intelligent actors acting on perceptions.

Imagine a fish seller, with too many fish. The fish will go bad soon if he does not sell them quickly.
Should he :

A) Ask people to buy more fish, before they go bad, please.

B) Go speak with the distributor that's buying fish from the fisherman and get him to spread the rumor that there is an incoming fish shortage.

(A) may be honest, but (B) will sell faster and for higher prices.

The idea is not to get what you want the most direct way - the idea is to get what you want the most efficient way.
You can be direct about getting what you want, or you can give people information that makes them come to a conclusion for themselves that makes them do what you want.
More abstractly : If it takes less energy to 'persuade' than to 'do for yourself', then use information to 'get people to do for you'. Let others spend their time and resources for you, and save your own.

Politically, this means ruling not by telling citizens what you want, but ruling by nurturing an environment where the media provides information that makes citizens ask for what you want of their own volition.
Then you aren't telling citizens what to do, you're merely obliging their wishes. You not only avoid appearing overbearing (which is not sustainable on account of eventual public disdain) - you actually appear obliging (which is perpetually sustainable).

If you want examples in an a-political environment (if in fact the political backdrop is foiling your ability to take the message in an impartial manner), you should look at Boyd's OODA loop and the Conceptual Spiral.

Bible Slavery: It's A Totally Different Thing!!

chingalera says...

Not so, slavery in the U.S. was historically unique in it's brutality and scope and the descendants of slaves live in another form of subjugation under the guise of rights under the law and equality. The system in place now insures that black people in the U.S. will be treated to inordinate scrutiny as citizens and extraordinary rendition in the form of profiling, imprisonment both physically or economically, and an unsurpassed recidivism in the Petri dish of criminals which is, the U.S. Prison Corporation, ltd., which only serves to justify more prisons to warehouse undesirables.

Except for perhaps Chinese dynasties during the construction of the wall other examples of slavery in history, even biblical slavery...Rome, Greece, these societies did not treat their slaves to the hopelessness we in America treated the Africans to.

If you consider slavery 'wrong' you might want to look at how well maintained your own existence has become-Slavery has simply become your indentured duty to invisible masters as you pay-to-play the game of life.
The slave masters of today do not carry whips or pistols but he still works you for long, unending hours and enjoys the fruits of your labor at day's end.

About 4 minutes was just repeat and trying to come to a punchline that we all realised.. and then it never came.

To Chingalera: Slaves are slaves, it is and always has been wrong no matter how well you treat them. The point of this story is not slavery but inequality that's inherit in the Old Testament and it's many stories.. Men were not created to be equal, according to bible but simply who ever told the story was superior and had Gods given rights to be superior, no matter what they did to other tribes, it was justified. Kind of like.. well.. christian countries do: be equal and fair towards the people inside your country.

NerdAlert: SimCity Launch Disaster - EA Earns Your Rage

packo says...

this is why i don't preorder

and this is why i wait until most games goes on sale before I get them, I don't buy beta tests, want me to support a game at full retail, I want the full, functional game at retail, that's the video game developer's fault not mine

i'm more than happy to wait to the end of a game's life cycle if I actually get a fully functioning game (and with Simcity, with online DRM, maybe even then I wouldn't be getting the game if the servers going down meant my ability to play was going to dissappear)

for an INDUSTRY soooo concerned about piracy... they sure do EVERYTHING in their power to ensure that piracy is the most appealing option

EA lost me as a fan of some of the brands they own when they forced Origin on me as well... that was the first blatant, you can't ignore it any longer, slap in the face EA did in my opinion in regards to their profitability being ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE more important than my enjoyment of their games, my bang for my dollar, and my value to them as a customer

I personally am enjoying the PC version a great deal, and I am fairly impressed with the graphics. I don't know how well it looks on 360, but even on my i3 system it defaulted to High Graphics and it looks and plays really well. I am enjoying it far more than Oblivion, which I didn't play long at all. The game isn't so outstanding to take away from other gaming, or life, but it is enjoyable while I play it.

Girls Suck at Video Games

westy says...

well the message is pretty stupid and sexist.

according to this only women look after kids and do all the responsible roles and some how that's linked to them not getting as high score in the game of life? lower salary ? not regarded as good as men?

I mean fair enough if its a reflection of 1950s sensablities which is possable due to the 1950s style charactor art.

ether way its pretty poorly thought out which is a shame as it could have had a bit of depth by cleverly utilising memes within computer games to convey a realistic view of women and there rolls and socialitys perception or actual reality of there position in society.

terrible

I should have mentioned that it's a good idea to turn on annotations on this one. Then it's possible to read the dialogue boxes. I have modified the video description. The video doesn't belong in terrible just because the video quality is bad. The terrible channel is for videos with terrible things happening in them.
