F1 Pit Stop Perfection

maatc says...

Wow! That was a quick one!
Looks like there is no refueling going on though.
Seemed like "just" a fast tire change, maybe due to a change in weather.
Usually all planned stops are used to refuel as well.

If I recall it correctly one of those pressurized fuel hoses in the F1 pumps fuel at 16 litres a second (thats 4.2 Gallons for you imperial folks)

The price of water is never something I've even had to think about, really ( I live off lake Michigan). It just's small change on top of other various bills (well... $1.68 per 768 gallons, but since I don't water my lawn or own a swimming pool, it hardly ever amounts to much). What goes around comes around in the winter time though when it comes time to run the heater.

EDIT
ok MY BAD i used cf (cubic feet) instead of ccf (100 cubic feet) to calculate the amount so its 1/100th the amount which would be about $0.32 OOPS! Thats an embarrassing mistake.

Its a 125 gallon bucket and in my neck of the woods that would cost about $32.00 a pop.

I hope they compensate you for the stolen water and any damage from the helicopter. Where I live, that water probably would cost $25 a bucket or more, and thousands to refill the pool. Of course, that far cheaper than your house burning down, but still...

I live in Windsor, the Canadian city just across the river from Detroit... I've been witness to the sad decline of the city for my entire life, but it has recently reached just jaw-dropping proportions. Detroit is just an ugly city in a lot of ways and I think it must have been unpleasant to be in even at its height.

The people in the suburbs think they've escaped, but the reverse is more likely to be true in the long run as gas just keeps getting more expensive. That's why the M-1 light rail line is a good idea: precisely because transportation infrastructure for a focused, coherent urban core is more viable over the long term than continuing to build out a sprawling suburban road network that no one will be able to afford to use in a world where gas costs $10 or $20 a gallon. The suburbs will fail in their turn, and everyone who doesn't go elsewhere will move back into the city core where at least you won't spend half your income just travelling back and forth to get your groceries. (Once they get around to building any grocery stores in the city, that is.)

High Voltage Electricity - Up Close & Personal.

chingalera says...

"If there was a revolutionary power distribution technology, somebody would be building it and profiting by it."

Not necessarily-Yours is a naivete shared by scores of peeps dosed continuously by propaganda while a proper gander would serve much better-

They couldn't make any $$ off a conventional carburetor retrofit that netted100 miles to the gallon back in 76' either, the patents were bought and suppressed. Countless other similar stories lend credence to the notion that knowledge is power. Profit isn't everything, but the consolidation of power in the hands of a few IS.

Why do you imagine we still use copper hard lines for internet when fiber is cheaper and more efficient? Follow the power.

The Tesla motors example is weak as they have only now been able to compete with oil-Had the R&D been forward-thinking with a view to conservation and efficiency in 1950, we'd already see a transition in the industry making a difference.

We don't need to transmit power with overhead lines, but the infrastructure and the power concerns are controlled by those who own them-Combine that with governments available to the highest bidder and you have a technomonopolistic cabal of behind-the-scenes power-mongers.

I do in fact grow my own tomatoes, its a fun hobby on the porch I have 10 tomato bushes on my porch, I grow them in bushes, since they can take a bit of abuse and still produce a ton of tomatoes, I get around 10-15 tomatoes per bush and as long as I keep them up they last forever, I bring them indoors to storage room in winter and they still produce about a 1/4th of their normal spring/summer batch. Anyhow main reason I started growing tomatoes is at the grocery store where I live we have only 1 store in a 50 mile radius so there is no competition and we get price gouged 4 tomatoes at store is 5.99. 1 gallon of milk is 5.49 which is funny 1 gallon of milk is 50 cents cheaper than 4 tomatoes... it's pathetic though. So a lot of people in town have started "porch" gardens. It saves a lot of money on herbs, spices, and some vegetables.

Most people are too lazy to grow their own stuff so I really don't think that's relevant. People can grow tomatoes but how many actually do? They just buy them at the store.

Insurance Scam, Road Rage, Or A$$hole? - (I Can't Decide)

chingalera says...

Flat-out road rage.

Now look dude: Don't use your footage of the guy's plate number to hand this shit over to any authorities, that costs everyone money. Track him down with his plate, arrive uninvited at his home, find his vehicle, and disable or otherwise vandalize it alla, felt-tip-penis-on-forehead-while-drunk-and-passed-out, and teach the cunt a lesson no cop can by citing him.

Yeah, needless to say you don't wanna rage against MY machine....

Years ago....Guy threw dip-spit out his window and it hit my windshield and got all over my arm-Ran his plates, arrived at his home, car in front, he got a gallon of Penetrol rubbed on with gloves like a glaze from bumper-to-bumper. Paint me with spit, you need a new paint job. He may have learned his lesson....Left a cup of dip-juice-looking stuff on top of his car.

How to make yoghurt

chingalera says...

Used to make it alla time-Half-gallon atta time.
Whatever type of yogurt is your favorite, buy a single container of that kind, plain.

Add one heaping spoonful of yogurt to milk that has been heated to just prior to boiling and cooled to b/t 105 and 112 F-Maintain that temp range over night and, voila.

(If you want your yogurt a bit stiffer add to your whole milk, about 2/3 c dry milk , or maybe some agar agar if you prefer.)

I like mine runny, so I nix any thickeners-Whole, organic milk and really really good Greek or premier yogurt-

Exxon Pipeline Breaks - Oil Flows Through Neighborhood

arekin says...

The cost per barrel right now isn't bad, looks like its time to start pumping in into a 50 gallon drum and sell it back to them. Then bill them again for the cost to clean up their mess.

Sad thing is that this means people who rely on that oil for gas are going to be paying for the clean up in increased gas pricing.
