It's good sci-fi. Follows a serialized format with a story arch lasting the season. The allegories are really good (Iraq war, Terrorism) which I think was season 3.. and of course everyones favourite Cylon who you want to frak (sorry, nerdy BG joke).

The problem with the show for me, is that they didn't know where they were going with the stories. Running into the same problem that 'Lost' did with many loose threads, making season 4 (the final series) the worst by far, ending with an un satisfying conclusion. There were also some heavy religious beats throughout the series which I didn't care for.

But the video is accurate, at the end of every episode "Awww you can't leave my hanging on that, let's watch the next one".>> ^zombieater:

So is it good?

Evidence for Dog's Existence

holymackerel013 jokingly says...

>> ^carrot:

This is like my agnostic, insomniac, dyslexic friend who always lay awake late at night wondering if there really was a dog.
I do like that this does touch (although very briefly) on the fact that frequently (in fact, for almost all things) our conviction is based on "reasonable doubt" rather than "unequivocal proof" - as in, he did not try to skirt the importance of circumstantial evidence, which is significantly more enlightened than the usual "NO PROOF NO PROOF NO PROOF" behavior which, while possibly reasonable, does not really engender positive sentiment.

There could be a "reasonable doubt" about the existence of this dog. We never once see a whole dog. That "thing" is wearing a sweater and therefore, It's "reasonable" that there may not be an entire dog there. Even if that dog was not wearing the sweater, Can it be proved that it is not a cyborg dog!? I saw one of those robotic dogs on Battlestar Galactica!!!

Babylon 5 - All 5 Season Intros

MaxWilder says...

Babylon 5 is the gold standard of blending story arc and episodic television. It was written from the start to last five years. Some of the scenes and characters are burned into my mind, but it has been so long. I really need to watch it again. I'm sure the CGI is dated now, but at the time it was fun.

You can't even compare this with Battlestar "makin' it up as we go" Galactica. Bablyon 5 also didn't make you want to slit your wrists every damn episode. It could make you laugh as well as cry. That's what good writing is.

One thing that was really sad was the cancellation and station change between seasons 4 and 5. The main story arc was abbreviated and wrapped up in season 4 because nobody knew if season 5 would even happen. Though tragic, season 5 still had some amazing episodes, with character moments and a story arc that looked almost as if it was planned all along.

Every once in awhile I pull out Firefly and watch them. To me it's just like Arrested Development...I could feel like crap and it'll make me feel amazing. I wish there was more but I'm damn grateful that there was something.

Sometimes it's best things die early before they sour. I pretend the first and second seasons of Battlestar Galactica are all that exist!
