Man of Steel - Trailer 2

Sagemind says...

The biggest problem I see with a Supeman movie is finding a believable villain that can stand up to superman without it looking campy.
Marvel has done a great job redefining the franchise with the look of modern reality. Bat Man is believable because he's just a regular man with gadgets.

With Superman, he's invincible in so many ways. If they ignore half his powers and don't use them when he should be, then it's a hard sell.

So then how do you take a guy with the utmost strength, incredible smarts, who flies, has heat laser and cold breath, Doesn't need oxygen to breath, is impervious to the elements and disease, accelerated healing, kick-ass fighting skills, superhuman speed, X-ray vision, superhuman hearing and vision and an eidetic memory, and create a believable conflict using today's reality?

Other than Kryptonite, he has no other weaknesses. Lex is the one who discovers the weakness. So how do you sell that in a new movie. Once you introduce Kryptonite with today's technologies, the weapons against Superman can mostly make him obsolete in quite a matter of fact way.

So it's either he's too powerful or he's quickly dealt with. So which is it?
Oh and not make it look campy, don't forget that part.

Chinese Farmer Creates Wind-Powered Car

Drachen_Jager says...

First case is simply wrong. Wind generators are turbulence generators, period. If they don't generate drag they don't work.

As for the second case it would be far more efficient to simply have the electric motor work in reverse so that it uses the car's momentum to generate electricity AND braking power. No need for fancy extra gadgets that would cost tens of thousands per unit and would never be more efficient than a simple system converting momentum to energy through the drivetrain.

>> ^zeoverlord:

sure it is, first case would be if it's used to correct turbulent air that would otherwise cause extra drag, in such a case it would have a double effect, both by reducing drag and generating power.
Second case would be if you had a turbine with deployable blades that extend every time you brake, sure the gain would be small, but it is a gain non the less.
Though clearly this car does not use either of these, and the only way this would add energy instead of wasting it was if he lived in a really windy place.
>> ^Drachen_Jager:
It is impossible to build a wind turbine generator on a car that increases efficiency through wind generated by the vehicle's own travel.

MS Surface - Dancing Clicking Magnets

shang says...

actually that loud click is part of the selling point.

if you watch the CES demonstration one of the new marketing terms is "listen for the click"

the optional touchpad was manufactured to have a very loud click, which according to research they said supposedly gave this satisfying feel when clicked and the loud click was to let you know it's connected and to "show off" to others when they hear your "click"

the click thing is a bit silly though imo.

here is more talk about the patented "click" sound
http://gizmodo.com/5952078/inside-surface-microsofts-insane-quest-for-gadget-perfection

The extent to which this click was obsessed over during the design process seems like marketing hot air, then insanity, and then after you keep hearing them talk about it, you realize it's just a company truly giving a damn about making something beautiful and nearly perfect.

Surface has an extra, custom-designed hinge devoted solely to create this particular click sound.

Jack White - Freedom At 21

eric3579 says...

Yeah, cut off the bottoms of my feet,
Make me walk on salt.
Take me down to the police,
Charge me with assault.
Smile on her face,
She does what she wants to me.

That's right.
She don't care what kind of wounds she's inflicting on me,
And she don't care what color bruises that she's leaving on me,
Cause she's got freedom in the 21st Century.
Alright.

Listen. Two black gadgets in her hand, it's all she thinks about.
No responsibility, no guilt or morals cloud her judgement,
Smile on her face,
She does what she damn-well please.

Right. And she don't care what kind of things people used to do,
And she don't care if what she does has an effect on you,
Cause she's got freedom in the 21st Century.

Cut off the bottoms of my feet,
Cut off the bottoms of my feet,
Make me walk on salt,
Make me walk on salt,
Take me down to the police,
Take me down to the police.
