New Rainbow Six game portrays OWS as terrorists

HugeJerk says...

I don't see the plot as pointing directly at OWS... certainly using the current reasons that a large group of people have for distrusting the government and corporations. It's not unheard of for violent groups to seize upon peoples anger and use it to recruit or fund raise. The developers are just using current sentiment as a background device to make the story line appear more relevant.

NPR Muslim Brotherhood Investigation Part I

Reporting the news in an even handed and detached way is one thing, but do you actually expect journalists to not have any political views in private? Much less people who aren't journalists but do fund raising.

Swarzenegger signs California bill decriminalizing Cannabis

a really telling comment in there; law enforcement opposes, and district attorneys endorse.
more proof that the mentality of today's beat cops is almost unanimously about fund raising, with no qualms about the safety and well-being of citizens.

"Police associations," not law enforcement itself (Which includes everyone in the law enforcement field...) I guess associations could mean the top wigs or unions (Which I assume they mean unions.) Of course unions are in it for money, and the top brass need to be "tough on crime" for the mostly stupid voters (That is how they are elected.)

So law enforcement is not against decriminalization, but a very, very select few are... Kind of like the state itself?

Anti-Gay Senator comes out: "I Am Gay"

burdturgler says...

Unfortunately, in this case, I think it's more about greed and power than it was about fear. Every speech he made to his supporters at "family values" fund raising events, where he spoke out against gay rights, he did so because he wanted their votes and their money. He willingly went to every Christian group out there, knowing full well that he was completely misrepresenting himself to them, and told them exactly what they wanted to hear and then cashed their checks. It really takes a monster of a person to live such a life. If it weren't for getting busted leaving a gay bar drunk he would still be singing the same tune.

Where to now, VideoSift? (Sift Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

I like the idea of advertising and fundraising for causes a lot. Though I think if you want it to be non-partisan you're going to have to limit it to fund raising for charities. If it's a "cause" like the American Civil Liberties Union, National Rifle Association, Organizing for America, Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, Greenpeace, or Focus on the Family that does political work, it's going to be "partisan" to somebody. I'd wager even EFF and Amnesty International will seem partisan to somebody.

Maybe just make a clear separation between charities, and non-profit political organizations, and let them coexist in separate areas, so people can be clear about what they're signing on for.

I'd also like a form of "news article sift", to try and get some crowd sourcing at work on elevating reports and opinion pieces with some quality.

Big Purple Garage Irks Neighbors

Sagemind says...

It's stories like this that relay get me angry.
"You painted your house, and I don't like it."

I've seen this so many times. I just don't understand why people need to do this. OK, ya, so it's a purple building..., so what. Get over it. No one is choosing the colours you paint your home with.

A few years back, the students of one of our local high schools did some fund raising so they could paint the grey school and add some colour so it wasn't so drab. They did it and it looked great. Good work on the student's part. but then people in town started saying, "schools aren't meant to be fun", and "I don't like the colour". In the end, the school board was made to come in and re-paint the school in grey again.

I've seen this happen with a lot of houses as well. There just doesn't seem to be any tolerance for personal expression in today's society and it just kills me and makes me want to scream.

People need to learn to leave people alone and let them do what they want to do in a free country!

OK, I'm done my rant, Thanks!

Christianity In A Nutshell

NordlichReiter says...

I recently spoke to a person who was well spoken for some one still in high school, fund raising for a local church.

Asked me if I believe in god, I said no. He asked me why, and I said there was no proof of her.

He said there isn't any proof that he doesn't exist. I said my point exactly.

Ron Paul Once Again The Voice Of Reason. On The Economy

11714 says...

>> ^vermeulen:
It's funny how Ron Paul fans still talk about the polls being skewed, even after the results came in and they turned out to be about exact in every state. Based on 5%, the media covered him a lot more than other Republican/Democratic candidates in that same range, mostly just because of his fund raising abilities though.
I am not sure what to think about his views on the economy. While other economics seem to have a very laissez faire viewpoint, they admit this sort of government interaction is needed to calm extreme times, since the market can't stand a complete 2 day meltdown and recovery (if nothing is done). I think Ron Paul just can't think past his philosophy, and can't look at the situation critically rather how it just hasn't implemented true free markets.

you are showing clear signs of not knowing facts and relying heavily on an opinion not based on facts.

and saying that he "cant look at the situation critically" is nothing short of a joke. Ron Paul understands the economy better than 95% of the people out there and about better than 99% of politicians. But you know better than him dont you? :-D The guy has probably been in office longer than you've been alive
