Ron Paul, Now And Then

I used to like Ron Paul. Now I think he's one of the worst possible role models on the right for anyone to have.

This is the first two paragraphs from one of the first e-mail messages I ever got from the Campaign for Liberty e-mail list, on August 22nd, 2007:

Not all the media are biased. A local newspaper in New Hampshire reported on an annual GOP bbq in the town of Hollis. It could be called "the Ron Paul show," they said, since the far bigger crowd that usual consisted mostly of our supporters. One volunteer even rented an airplane and flew a wonderful sign around the sky. What great, creative, self-starting people I'm meeting, at every stop, all of them united by a love of America and American freedom.

Politics is usually about division. But this campaign is just the opposite. Not only are our volunteers a bunch of happy warriors, but they also practice the virtues of tolerance and peace, just as they want the nation to do.

I like what I'm hearing. Sounds like maybe at least someone on the right isn't crazy and violently hostile towards people like myself, and actually shares some of my values.

What a difference a couple years makes.

Here's the first two paragraphs of an e-mail from C4L yesterday, October 4th, 2010:

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

The voters are furious and are ready to sweep out the current batch of statists who gave their full support to socialist schemes such as the bailouts, the stimulus package, ObamaCare, Cap and Tax, and Card Check Forced Unionism.

I've seen some people in 2010 still pretending like Ron Paul is some sort of moderate interested in bridging traditional left-right divides.

Those people obviously aren't subscribed to Ron Paul's campaign e-mail list.
