"Game Theory" in British Game Show is Tense!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner%27s_dilemma
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner%27s_dilemma#Friend_or_Foe.3F
Friend or Foe? is a game show that aired from 2002 to 2005 on the Game Show Network in the United States. It is an example of the prisoner's dilemma game tested by real people, but in an artificial setting. On the game show, three pairs of people compete. As each pair is eliminated, it plays a game similar to the prisoner's dilemma to determine how the winnings are split. If they both cooperate (Friend), they share the winnings 50–50. If one cooperates and the other defects (Foe), the defector gets all the winnings and the cooperator gets nothing. If both defect, both leave with nothing. Notice that the payoff matrix is slightly different from the standard one given above, as the payouts for the "both defect" and the "cooperate while the opponent defects" cases are identical. This makes the "both defect" case a weak equilibrium, compared with being a strict equilibrium in the standard prisoner's dilemma. If you know your opponent is going to vote Foe, then your choice does not affect your winnings. In a certain sense, Friend or Foe has a payoff model between prisoner's dilemma and the game of Chicken.
The payoff matrix is
Cooperate Defect
Cooperate 1, 1 0, 2
Defect 2, 0 0, 0
This payoff matrix was later used on the British television programmes Shafted and Golden Balls. The latter show has been analyzed by a team of economists. See: Split or Steal? Cooperative Behavior When the Stakes are Large.
It was also used earlier in the UK Channel 4 gameshow Trust Me, hosted by Nick Bateman, in 2000.

One more reminder to all the right wing "christians" that jumped on the "islamic terrorist" bandwagon the second a car blew up, this was one of YOURS, not one of theirs. Are you starting to fear a backlash against YOUR religion and world view?
Just asking.
I'd like to point up thread were I was one of the first to yell stop and wait before re-enforcing your prejudices over this.
For the right wing so-called Christians I would urge they be judged the same as anyone else. The ones cheering this act and declaring it as justice served are the enemies of free people everywhere. Not to pick on Islam in any way, but I do NOT see entire nations filling with cheering so-called Christians rejoicing at this act the same way we really did see entire nations filling with cheering so-called Muslims rejoicing after 9/11. That difference must not be forgotten, as it is vital. The Westboro Baptists are exactly the equivalent evil, and they are right at home in America, but I am not familiar with any nations were a Westboro Baptist like cult has nearly a majority within the population. "Islamic" jihadists however have multiple places were that can be said to be true.
It's all equally ugly, but I suppose my point is that the Westboro Baptist nuts like this guy are a foe already effectively beaten, with limited ability to fight against us as free people. 'Islamic' nuts though are holding entire populations at ransom and bringing civil war against freedom loving muslim people unfortunate enough to share geography with them. It is still the much bigger fight, and will continue to be a problem until it is tackled as such rather than being dismissed as the 'chosen' lifestyle of the people there.
I'm sad to say I have seen entire nations 'worth' of people rejoicing at the death of Muslims, just not any actual nation. There certainly have been rallies in America that at least in part were to 'celebrate' Muslim deaths. I agree, it's not as pervasive as in Muslim countries, and not accepted by the majority of our population as it seems to be in Muslim countries, but it certainly IS something that happens here (at most Faux supported and teabagger rallies for example). We have a much more diverse and larger population, so there is likely NO cause the entire population will ever get behind.
My point is, as long as a group advocates violence and intolerance against another group, they have some responsibility when one of their group (insane or not) uses their rhetoric to justify violent acts against "X", and should be ridiculed for their hypocrisy when they complain about the same thing from the other side of their fight.
This is not meant to indicate that western culture is the same, or even close to the same as the Muslim culture, it is meant to indicate that when your anti-"X" group becomes "X" in order to fight against "X" you've already lost the fight before you begin. To reiterate, if you become what you despise in order to rail against it, you end up despising yourself in the end.

Japanese government killing its own people in Fukushima
I'm still searching the Japanese news sites for the truth about what went down at this meeting, but according to some people on the Japanese YouTube version of this video, this may have been a setup. The reason for all the cameras and shouting was supposedly because the majority of the audience in attendance that day were members of "Green Action" and "Greenpeace" who weren't even residents of the affected area. They basically came to further their own anti-nuclear agenda and brought the urine with them knowing that it wasn't these guys jobs to test it. Again, I'm not sure of the truth of all that. If I find out more I'll post again.
EDIT: Did a bit more research and found children from the Fukushima area have had their urine tested back in June, but only trace amounts of Cesium were found--not at any levels that would affect health (0.41~1.13 becquerels per liter of urine).
EDIT2: Yeah, it was a total setup. The whole meeting was organized by an NGO called Friends of Earth Japan (FoE), who have a strong anti-nuclear agenda (the page I linked to is their public announcement of the meeting, including handouts that detailed their strategy for the meeting). They called out to other groups like No Nukes More Hearts who share similar goals. On the No Nukes More Hearts web page that I linked to they encourage all members of the group, whether they are residents or not, to attend the meeting. Other groups that seem to be involved were the Fukushima Protect Children from Radiation Association, Fukushima Fukuro Club (similar to Greenpeace) and Greenpeace Japan, further stacking the audience.
These groups apparently invited government representatives for "negotiations" about the rights of people living in the stricken areas. Realizing the groups were there to grandstand and not actually discuss anything, the government officials eventually withdrew from the meeting--after nearly 2.5 hours of patiently trying to answer questions! The NGO groups quickly edited down and translated the original video of the meeting to further their own purposes, deleting the two hours of the video in which the government members listen to speeches given by various group leaders and try to answer questions from the audience.
You can see the original unedited video of the meeting here. It looks like the attending government officials were only given copies of the questions they would be asked moments before the meeting started (although in fairness if they had gone to the websites I linked to above they would have known what they were walking in to). Before the meeting even begins, the Fukushima Protect Children from Radiation Association drops a petition demanding all children be evacuated from Fukushima. Throughout the meeting, as the government officials try to patiently answer questions from the audience they are routinely interrupted by others who stand up and give speeches (there's a lot of talk about "protecting the children" which always gets a lot of applause).
So yeah, these guys got ambushed. It was basically a successful troll for these NGO groups.
EDIT 3: In the link to the original (uncut) meeting video, you can go to 1:02:00 to see where this clip starts. Notice this clip has been heavily edited and the government officials actually stuck around for ANOTHER HOUR to answer questions before being accosted by the urine-wielding brigade.

They protest against some memorial or capital cops, hardly an intimidating foe in this circumstance; these cops are not going to crack their skulls for not complying.
Did you not watch the prior video where the cops were bodyslamming people?
Did you see the video where the white cops sprayed the black people down with hoses? Did you watch where they used their training and put snarling dogs on them? Where they had to enlist a large number of cops on the public dume to keep them uppity black people in line, thanks a whole bunch for that?
See, I can do that too.

Short Longde: These people's protest is worthless because they chose an easy target, and risk little, for a trivial payoff.
Your comment about the egyptians is completely wrong. They didn't go from a democracy to a dictatorship in bites over the years; in one form or another, that region has had athoritarian governments for quite a while. Those people are truly courageous because they have managed to oust a dictator who has true power over their life and limb, for the noblest of causes.

The ass at 2:09 yelling that they can take the government down is fucking laughable given what happened in egypt, where people really did take down a government. I don't think that guy would last a second under those conditions.
Lastly, I have also visited that memorial for some silent reflection. I agree with the law, and I think if you put it up for a vote, most americans would vote for it.
Honestly, I think 70% of the time, the people at reason are ass clowns.

I am dumbfounded at the stupidity and narrow-mindedness here. This is what it means to stand up for your rights.
When men with power command men with guns to prevent you from doing something that does not harm anyone, we lose freedom. If we don't stand up and say "no" whenever the little stuff like this happens, then it will get bigger and bigger. If you "start" fighting for your freedom after the restrictions have escalated, then it will be increasingly difficult to get it back. You know those protests in Egypt? Where people died? Maybe the deaths wouldn't have been necessary if they had started sooner. Or do people have to die before you will think the protest is worth having?
I hope that these little protests continue. I hope that many of them happen across the country in protest of stupid little laws that accomplish nothing useful but acclimating the masses to oppression. I hope it becomes a tradition to do a little dance whenever you visit this memorial.
You can take your "right to not be hassled" and shove it. Ain't no such thing.

Ron Paul on Bin Laden's Capture
As to Mr. Paul, he doesn't seem to be able to accept a complex situation.
He wants to simplify things down by acting like providing financial aid to Pakistan and bombing Northern Waziristan at the same time is contradictory. The reality that any pundit or commentator has to recognize is that Pakistan is NOT a single unified nation. Even it's intelligence services and military are not unified in their allegiances. The official ISI stance is to fight the Pakistani Taliban and their terrorist attacks against Pakistani schools and hospitals. The official military stance is to fight the Pakistani Taliban in their attempts to take over the tribal regions of Pakistan. At the same time though, the former head of the ISI publicly states that all good muslims should hope for the victory of the Taliban, as a matter of course. Operations by the Pakistani Military are frequently leaked by internal elements before the operations are put in place.
The problem is that America has both it's closest allies and it's deepest enemies within Pakistan's government. The pro-democracy parties of the country like Benazir Bhutto's PPP sit in the National Assembly with members of the JUI-F who decried the tragic death of Osama as he was a muslim hero. It's worth remembering that Benazir is dead now, just as her father before her.
Ron Paul isn't alone, but every commentator that want to have some binary friend/foe label to place on Pakistan collectively will never find a foreign policy that makes any sense, because the very premise they are working from doesn't make any sense either.

Ya I know! Aren't Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart the most perfect casting of any movie ever? It might be the shortfall on respectable bald actors, but I always hoped he would be prof-X. I like that they are telling the young story of X and Magneto, but I do hope we get to have some more "modern" (lol) encounters of those foes of friends.
Brithers disproved yet again (Politics Talk Post)
@ Obama Defenders. I'll see your Dr. Fukino and raise you one Hawaiian Governor Abercrombie (details below).
Birth issue aside, it's fairly obvious by now to all and sundry His Earness is in way over his head and has no idea what he's doing. He was/is an expert at getting elected and nothing else.
My goal here is not to antagonize. I'm trudging through the muck along with many others. I would love to be proven wrong by Obamian policies resulting in low unemployment, a revived economy and the restoration of rightful respect that is America's due of friend and foe alike.
Obama doesn't believe in the goodness of America, and likely never has. Legit papers or not, the man had no business ever being president. The world is burning (as usual) and here he is, acting the wistful dope.

Obama’s Birth Certificate Scandal
When he announced that he would produce Barack Hussein Obama’s Hawaiian birth certificate, newly inaugurated Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie, a political confidant of Mr. Obama, said that the “birth certificate issue will have ‘political implications’ for the next presidential election that we simply ‘cannot have.’”
Too bad Governor Abercrombie didn’t take the time to investigate and see if there was a long-form, doctor-issued birth certificate on file for Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. anywhere in the Hawaiian birth archive before making that statement. Because his search resulted in an admission that no long-form birth certificate for Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. appears to exist in Hawaii.
Finally, those Americans who were convinced that Abercrombie was going to produce what millions of Americans have been asking for—Obama’s long-form, original, doctor-witnessed birth certificate would suddenly appear and a million “birthers” would be embarrassed. That was then. This is now.
Governor Abercrombie suggested in a published interview that the long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Barack Obama may not exist within the vital records maintained by the Hawaii Department of Health. Questioned by the media, he admitted that his search failed to produce the elusive birth certificate.
Either Barack Obama is a natural-born American citizen, or he is not. Either a legitimate Hawaiian birth certificate exists, or it does not.
The new Governor of Hawaii, Mr. Abercrombie, told the media that: “What bothers me is that some people who should know better are trying to use this for political reasons. Maybe I’m the only one in the country that could look you right in the eye right now and tell you, ‘I was here when that baby was born.’”
Notice that Abercrombie did not say that he saw either the Obamas, or their son, only that he was in Hawaii when Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., was born...somewhere."
