Students Call Teachers By First Name!

[1] My kids' primary school: first names all 'round - teachers and students. The principal: yes, we've got all the usual problems here, but we think that respect is earned; it's not about the name we use.

[2] separately (not at my kids' school) beginning to suspect that 'cool' (first names...) male teachers may be more at risk of 'dating' students.

Students Call Teachers By First Name!

Ms./Mrs./Mr for the staff. first names for the students. in sports; last name was the standard (hearing first name or mr meant one wasn't gonna make the team).

only time 'mr or miss' was used was when terrible was brewing & we were the tea.

'sides there were much more pressing issues than this type of tripe. picked bigger fish to fry. T-shirts w/band names/slogans/quotes were FAR more important!

& the lunch boycott?! there's a story.

Respect is a two way street. I seriously doubt any of these teachers think twice about using student’s first names. Turnabout is fair play….that’s why I insisted on calling my gym teacher “Cheney”…he called us by last name, but with no Mr., so I returned the favor. He hated that. He tried to get me in trouble for it. The principal set him straight.

Thalidomide Chirality

newtboy says...

Insanely, I was best friends in preschool with a thalidomide child. His arms were 8" hands attached directly to his shoulders with 2 fingers and no thumb. That was early 70's, long after it was banned in the U.S. and the dangers well known. His parents allegedly went to south America to get it, and clearly quality control and side effects weren't a priority there.
I wonder how he's doing today, I lost touch at kindergarten age and only remember his first name now.

I meant VideoSift...the landlord/host's info is everywhere ---but all that AirBnB gives you about a host is the first name---which (I guess) I can post, since that was part of the KTLA news article---"Tami"...

Let me guess, her masters was in Racist Asshole?
And can you really still call it doxxing if your info was widely publicized as part of an online rental service?

"What is your mother's name?" A question that made me sob...

vil says...

When my older son was a toddler he would call me by my first name, funny but slightly unnerving.

Its their culture, peer pressure. BTW they probably dont call each other motherf*cker or sonofab*tch habitually. Its amazing how often insults in any culture refer to mothers, appears to be a soft spot. If you listen to the video carefully they dont want to disclose their mothers name publicly so that she could not be shamed (insulted) by others. Not because they dont care, rather because they do care, they just live in a complex society.

Sad Affleck thinks about his life

spawnflagger says...

Saw the movie yesterday - it was just all over the place.

The biggest problem I had with it was that a major portion of the "plot" relied on the fact that Batman and Superman both
had moms with the first name Martha
.

Stephen Colbert Mocks Jeb Bush's Colbert Raffle

entr0py says...

I had no idea where 'Jeb' came from, so you're saying his first name is dependent on his first, middle and last names? He's known by a recursively defined acronym? Suddenly I have more respect for the man; even his name punches logic in the face.

newtboy said:

Go Stephen.
OK. I must point something out. JEB is not the candidates name, it's his initials (John Ellis Bush). He uses his initials to attempt to get people to forget he's a Bush. When you say JEB Bush, it's like saying PIN number (PIN stands for Personal Identification Number, BTW, so saying pin number is saying personal identification number number).
Please stop calling him John Ellis Bush Bush. Let's agree to just call him Bush.

"What is your mother's name?" A question that made me sob...

Sagemind says...

Yes, this is pretty messed up.
I understand not wanting to give out a maiden name over the internet, but first name?
Every one of these men bring shame on their mothers and their fathers for denying her, her name.
