Supreme Court Ethics: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

newtboy says...

I wonder if the recent scrutiny of the tens of millions taken by these judges from plaintiffs and defendants in their own courts and the resulting outrage will make him consider this offer, knowing real ethics LAWS are coming as soon as Democrats retake the house and his fire-hose of unreported “gifts” is likely to dry up under new laws with teeth, this may be his only shot at continuing the lavish lifestyle he and the other “conservative” “justices” all enjoy thanks to their billionaire donors who buy decisions.

Note- there has yet to be a single credible accusation of taking “unreported gifts” (aka bribes) against any of the 3 “liberal” justices. No false equivalency to make here @bobknight33, none. The best the muck rakers can come up with is Geinsberg once accepted a trip she reported on her disclosures from someone who had PREVIOUSLY YEARS EARLIER had a case heard. I’m sure you will say that’s the exact same crime as taking millions from people with cases pending before your court and not reporting a dime of it or recusing yourself.

Through the mud with a woman

Notice the interior is all metal, I would bet it's designed to just hose out.
EDIT: that's how off road race cars are designed, and they had a fire hose at short track races to remove mud between heats.
It's always good when your passenger needs to ride the hood for traction, and the driver needs to remove the seatbelt to breathe!
I'll give you my first....

Drag Queen Gives Impassioned Speech About Homophobia

Yogi jokingly says...

Why can't black people just go and be black? I mean why do the have to be out there sitting at the front of the bus, being drenched by fire hoses, and bothering the police and their dogs! Just go to work, stay in your own separate but equal bathrooms and drinking fountains and live your life, then maybe we'd respect them enough to give them equal rights!

This is the problem with gay people. They can't just be gay. They have to dress up in a red codpiece and parade down 6th avenue, or dress up like a woman, or wear a studded collar, etc etc etc.
If they would just be gay, go to work, live their lives, then people would respect them.

Ron Paul "When...TRUTH Becomes Treasonous!"

I don't disagree about the snooping since 2001. As far as the koch brothers and the Tea Party, you don't know what the fuck your talking about.

They just want the Constitution follow or at least print current laws back towards it.

Instead of watching biased Democratic sucking media, go to an actual event .

They are not raciest, or the desire to go back to slavery as the media puts forth. . That's Bullshit. B.W.Y. the slavery shit and the KKK was the Democrat south doing its thing, not Republicans. MLK was Republican.

Today the Republican party is nothing more than a cheap intimation of the Democrat party. They will never win fighting that way. The Tea Party is they way to go.

FYI a little history ... Since you had a public education and hence only learned skewed left leaning revised history...

http://www.humanevents.com/2006/08/16/why-martin-luther-king-was-republican/

"
It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S’s: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism.

It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s.

During the civil rights era of the 1960s, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools. President Eisenhower also appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the U.S. Supreme Court, which resulted in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision ending school segregation. Much is made of Democrat President Harry Truman’s issuing an Executive Order in 1948 to desegregate the military. Not mentioned is the fact that it was Eisenhower who actually took action to effectively end segregation in the military.

Democrat President John F. Kennedy is lauded as a proponent of civil rights. However, Kennedy voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Act... And after he became President, Kennedy was opposed to the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King that was organized by A. Phillip Randolph, who was a black Republican.

The Democrats were loosing the slavery battle and civil rights were breaking through and JFK/Johnson the

Given the circumstances of that era, it is understandable why Dr. King was a Republican. It was the Republicans who fought to free blacks from slavery and amended the Constitution to grant blacks freedom (13th Amendment), citizenship (14th Amendment) and the right to vote (15th Amendment). Republicans passed the civil rights laws of the 1860s, including the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and the Reconstruction Act of 1867 that was designed to establish a new government system in the Democrat-controlled South, one that was fair to blacks. Republicans also started the NAACP and affirmative action with Republican President Richard Nixon’s 1969 Philadelphia Plan (crafted by black Republican Art Fletcher) that set the nation’s fist goals and timetables. Although affirmative action now has been turned by the Democrats into an unfair quota system, affirmative action was begun by Nixon to counter the harm caused to blacks when Democrat President Woodrow Wilson in 1912 kicked all of the blacks out of federal government jobs.

Few black Americans know that it was Republicans who founded the Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Unknown also is the fact that Republican Sen. Everett Dirksen from Illinois was key to the passage of civil rights legislation in 1957, 1960, 1964 and 1965. Not mentioned in recent media stories about extension of the 1965 Voting Rights Act is the fact that Dirksen wrote the language for the bill. Dirksen also crafted the language for the Civil Rights Act of 1968 which prohibited discrimination in housing. President Lyndon Johnson could not have achieved passage of civil rights legislation without the support of Republicans."

Democrats are still in the slavery business. They just use the welfare system to keep the poor poor and use the shallow promise of If you vote Democrat we will keep giving you a little cheese.

The Democrat party has been the most destructive political party to date.

This has been going on since 2001 and probably earlier. The tea party is nothing more than a front for the koch brothers and although they may have some good ideas they don't operate independently. Also, I think the average tea partier gladly gave up these rights during the run up to war.

Robot Butcher Slices and Dices

It looks clean, but in comparison with farmers who butcher and prepare meat at their farms, almost all large factory-driven slaughterhouses are quite dirty using most standards of cleanliness (coliform counts, fecal counts, and other bacterial measures).
Ever seen Food, Inc? Yuck.

Well this place probably just opened... so it is still clean in that respect. I would be interested in seeing what their cleaning times and methods were. What is scary is there are blades at every turn in that sucker. Imagine being the one who has to repair and change out blades.

There WAS a distinct lack of spray guards so I am sure bits and pieces are flung all over that you can't see, but it is also compleatly possible that the entire room gets hosed with a cleaning solution infused water fire hose style since the hardware seems pretty sturdy and protected against elements.

Sand Dumped Over Oil In LA Beach

Fletch says...

That ain't oil. Looks like clay, or even charcoal. Clay is often used to control erosion on beaches susceptible to it. I suppose nobody saw this massive cover-up operation or got pictures of it either. Did the perpetrators also spread driftwood and other detritus over the top to make it look "natural"? Looks like they even hit some choice spots with a fire hose to make it look like natural erosion, eh?

"Different pattern in the sand"? Wasn't there just a huge storm (Alex) passing through this week? Those booms look like erosion control to me. Storms can take and deposit large amounts of sand to a beach. Not everything is a frickin' conspiracy. What is happening in the gulf is a tragedy, and deserves all the outrage one can muster, but this type of brain-dead "journalism" is only leading the blind to battles that don't exist. It's a guy on a beach with a camera. Are you going to believe it's oil just because this shitwit says it is? Pick some up, camera guy. Rub it between your fingers on camera so we can all get a good look. Does it smell like oil? Does it smell like anything? Does it burn? If so, what color is the smoke? What color and kind of residue does it leave? Did you even collect some so it could be tested/verified by an expert? Unfortunately, Billy "Scoops" Batson here has already decided that it's oil, and so should you.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

'Create a skeleton of simple, common sense laws. Set up some watchdog & whistleblower groups. Put all the remaining regulatory & monitoring power into state government hands.'

'Lobbyists can't buy what isn't for sale. The fact that politicians sell out is the problem.'

You are an idealist and I like you.
However in my experience at some point everyone has a price and can be exploited. The relentless energy produced by entreprenurial capitalism is awesome when pointed in the right direction but if you don't hold on tight it goes off like a rogue fire hose. Nb. the 'self-regulating banking system'.
