How thieves steal keyless tech cars

spawnflagger says...

in @eric3579's 1st reply above, there is video of such a box that prevents this attack. Similar idea to a 'faraday cage', but they found that cardboard box lined with aluminum foil was most effective.

I'm surprised that these things put out a strong enough signal to get out of the house. Maybe build a case for the fob that cuts off the signal unless you hit a button and exposes enough of it for the signal to get out?

That Time When Lightning Struck Your Car.

newtboy says...

Should be.
The metal car should make a Faraday cage, protecting anything not touching it, and most car interiors are covered in plastic, so there shouldn't have been a conductive pathway inside.
No guarantees though.

A giant flying faraday cage.

Although doesn't lightning produce a pretty massive shockwave? I mean, thats what Thunder is right. I'm quite surprised planes are completely undamaged by it.

"Building 7" Explained

MycroftHomlz says...

I think the thing that bothers me the most about this crap is the NIST is one the United States most prestigious scientific research institutions.

Ask any physicist; I am not the only one who holds NIST and the scientists there in such high regard. No one tells these people what their findings are, especially not some manager.

The fact of the matter is that NIST did complete and thorough mutliphysics simulations of the entire building, almost completely simulating the entire events from 9/11. They completely recreated the collapse from first principles. I just don't know what more you can want.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go back into my Faraday cage.

Chicken Wire Cage Impervious to 400 kV from Tesla Coil

joedirt says...

It is NOT impervious you stupid fucks. Learn some physics. First of all, EM frequencies over a few (tens?) of kHz can go right through this faraday cage.

Also this high voltage might also easily penetrate the chicken wire. The thing is that the path to ground is less resistance to follow the chicken wire then to go past it. If you had a huge grounded copper wire on the other side of the chicken wire it would go right "through" it to the wire in your hand.

In fact it appears the chicken wire doesn't even need to be there, all the arc'ing is to the large metal rods that support the cage. The chicken wire probably isn't doing jack shit.

Finally, it isn't even a faraday cage, because I see hige gaps between the two horizontal support rods.

Stupidest title ever.

Basically he is standing in a mobile Faraday cage. Nothing special about that.
It looks really cool though.
