Fallout - Official Trailer

cloudballoon says...

LOL, true. I meant one of my favorite game series. I bought Fallout 3, but I haven't played it past the tutorial (the 3D weren't my thing), and I didn't get anything else that came after FO3. So I couldn't just just came the whole series a favorite so I just removed the word "series". Lazy me.

Fallout TV Show Teaser

cloudballoon says...

Looks like they WERE clapping for Starfield.

I can understand the no-cheering/clapping though. The visuals are very generic, the presentation got none of the quirky humor that Fallout was famous for (at least in those early strategy games.... I bought Fallout 3 and haven't played it beyond the tutorial.... too old for FPS shooter) so maybe this teaser is closer to the modern games than Fallout 1 & 2? This feels like a post-nuclear militia war show than a vault-dweller's survival story. So if I'm there I'd be scratching my head rather than cheering/clapping.

Were the Atomic Bombings of Japan Necessary?

newtboy says...

I’ve always thought it was a horrific decision, but not at all because of the immediate effects or massive death and destruction they caused in Japan….they fucked around and found out and deserved everything they got (and I was unaware the Russian Manchurian offensive timing, but it’s even more reason to not drop a second bomb or even a first if we knew it was coming).

I think it was horrific because we had no idea what the long term effects of even minimal fallout might be, and in fall/winter the jet stream runs from Japan directly to the highly populated West coast (which we knew well thanks to balloon bombs), so some portion of the fallout was guaranteed to fall on millions of US citizens. We lucked out that it wasn’t deadly a year later, and didn’t cause horrible birth defects with near zero exposure…we had no concrete idea at the time though just guesses, and still don’t have a clear idea of how much it contributed to higher cancer rates in the US.

Keep in mind, we had no idea what discussions the Japanese were having amongst themselves , so no idea how effective our bombs nor the Manchurian offensive were at persuading them to surrender. Hindsight is 2020, but at the time we were flying blind.

The uncertain risk there of possibly killing millions of ourselves or gimping or sterilizing or even Cronenberging entire future generations for the comparatively minimal convenience of not using conventional bombs, to me, is no where near worth it. There were just too many unanswered questions about too many factors. I’m sure the soldiers fighting at the time would feel differently.

MyHouse.WAD - Inside Doom's Most Terrifying Mod

moonsammy says...

It's really not all that involved - the hardest part is absolutely going to be finding Doom2.wad. If you (like me) have an old CD on hand you probably already have that, though I recognize there's a huge difference between "I have the cd" and "I can easily access the cd"...

After you have that though, it's just a matter of:
1 Downloading / unzipping GZDoom (free, easy to find)
2 Tossing Doom2.wad and the mod's .pk3 file into the unzipped GZDoom folder, and
3 Dragging the .pk3 onto gzdoom.exe.

Getting mods up and running in something like Skyrim or Fallout is substantially more fiddly.

Ditto. I was going to download it, but I would have to find my old DOOM files, install and setup the game and its mod, play, etc. I ain't got time and resources for that like I used like during my younger days.

New York Nuclear PSA what to do in case of an attack

A car would be a perfect place to shelter:

1. The windscreen blocks UV light.
2. A car isn't going to collapse on you.
3. The car has actual shock absorbers to absorb the ground shock.
4. The car isn't innately flammable and even has a thermal barrier in the paint, metal and insulation.
5. The car has a radio.
6. The car is mobile and can (to whatever degree roads are passable) get you out of danger.
7. The car has a trunk to hold containers of water safely (double-safely if they're inside an ice chest inside the trunk)
8. You can sleep in a car.
9. In any circumstance in which a car was destroyed by the blast/heat, you were fucked anyway.

Rocket Sled Impact Test In Slow-Motion

StukaFox says...

Um, hello? 'scuse me, yeah, over here? Ok, I have a question:
So, like, there's this thing in a nuke called a nuke. It kinda blows up and shit and it's made out of stuff that you really don't want to breathe in when it's in micro-fine dust. Let's say that this "nuke" thing got hit by a "go-ey fast" thing and got a bit of an ouchie. What would actually happen to that plutonium core? I know it wouldn't blow up, but wouldn't the fallout be worse than an explosion?

Cyberpunk 2077 Visual Tech Tour - The Maxed Out Next-Gen PC

robdot says...

This looks like ass on my ps5. The difference between this and demon souls is jarring. It looks and plays like fallout 76. If you don't have a high end pc, don't bother until next gen upgrade.

Exploring an Abandoned Missile Engine Test Site

1. Next time take a flashlight
2. Sit your camera down and use both hands
3. Prop open the doors with something so they don't close on you
4. This reminds me of Fallout
