Lol, more trumpets lies caught and shut down....so much for your "I'm black and I'm voting for Trump" scam. Twitter just tossed all their accounts because, surprise surprise, they weren't actually black people, they were trolls and bots set up to push a ridiculous scam message that black people love trump and you should too.

It's looking possible for dems to take 10 Senate seats, and the Republican party will just evaporate in failure like everyone who's ever gotten into bed with Trump. ROTFLMAHS!

Sorry sunshine.....not really sorry though.

Inside Nancy Pelosi’s District:

newtboy says...

SF has this problem so bad because it's such a successful city. Cost of living is at least double the national average, you're lucky to find a small one bedroom for $3500 a month there.
Because the weather is mild year round, transients never move on to warmer climates, but more show up in spring.
Housing problems there are largely caused by rising housing costs, unaffordable to some working 3 jobs. Many are lured in because you get more panhandling money when the average income is >$100000. I recall a few being investigated in the 90's who seemed to make well over $100000 a year by begging, one was estimated at $250000+. Thousands are working homeless, living in their cars because they don't earn enough to even share an apartment. Most make more than the national average. Keep in mind, $190000 is middle class in San Francisco.

This has been an issue in San Francisco and the bay in general at least since the early 80's when i lived there....but it has gotten worse as the population and rent increased but low income housing didn't.
Now Trump has said there will be no low income housing (which he thinks means all blacks) in suburbs, directing infinitely more homeless and low income citizens to cities in search of a possible roof over their heads...and in the same breath he blames Democrats for the homeless problems in cities.

As mentioned above, there is no republican plan to deal with homeless. None. They seem to think if you deny them services and food they evaporate. It doesn't work that way.

Pelosi doesn't control San Francisco, she represents it in the house. Derp.

What a dishonest tool. 1/2 the nation's homeless?! Bullshit. San Francisco has around 10000, America has around 500000. It's just more bullshit and *lies @bobknight33, not philosophy, news, or talks, and the only thing to learn from it is massive levels of misinformation.

Solving the Mask Shortage in Huntington Beach

newtboy says...

Sorry, 1.5-2m is not really a safe distance without a mask, it's the average distance infectious droplets travel from normal speaking. Coughs and sneezes can spray infectious droplets 23-27 ft before they evaporate. The distancing guidelines are based on older studies of bacterial meningitis, not Covid 19. Bacteria are way easier to kill than viruses.

Mauru said:

This is so fucking weird for a number of reasons:

- Even the dudes handing out the masks don't seem to use them correctly - you need to cover your nose

- Arguably, wearing a mask on a beach or outside is not really that important as long as you stick to social distancing (1.5 to 2m). It's when you enter crowded or often-frequented places (stores, subways, etc) when they become a factor

Is this whole thing really that politicized atm? Scary...

Police Who Murder Man In Public On Camera Fired

StukaFox says...

Newt, you've already lost.

You didn't lose with Trump in 2016, but with California's Prop 13 in 1978.

The goal of the Neocon movement was to decimate American public education because they knew that an educated population would never vote for the kind of shit they were selling, and because teachers (being educated and all) were a powerful Democratic voting block. Defunding public education was a win/win for them.

It worked beautifully.

The teacher's unions were starved. Public schooling imploded. We went from the most educated populace in the world to the point where 50% of the population can't find their own country on a map.

Then the real screw-job started with the wealth transfer. Unions were busted, jobs were moved overseas. The safety net that kept millions from abject poverty was dissolved ("welfare queens", "food-stamp cheats"). The Middle Class began to evaporate with about 10% climbing up the ladder and the rest being dumped into the street.

For people like me -- people with high-end skills and a college degree -- that shit worked out great. But people who aren't as lucky? Kinda sucks being them. So they got madder and madder. Luckily, there were dark-skinned people that this rage could be directed at. That good ol' American racism? That shit pays dividends if you play it the right way.

Now you have an increasing number of poorly educated people living in poverty with grievances. Hey, guess what -- we have a new tool to focus all that anger and it's called FOX News! They can show you whose dastardly plan it was to keep your poor, white self down on the farm while those FUCKING LIBERALS live it up in the cities!

Lather, rinse, repeat.

See Newt, people like Bob aren't an anomaly, they're the intended end result of a very well-conceived long-term plan by extraordinarily smart people who understood Chomsky, Orwell and Lasker better than you ever will. Bob is now the norm and you are the exception.

Go ahead and vote in Biden or Warren or even Sanders: it doesn't fucking matter because you can't vote out entrenched stupid. No matter who is sitting at 1600 Penn Ave, Bob is sitting in front of his computer, seething and being stupid. He's not going anywhere. He's not going to see things differently and he's damned well not going to get any smarter.

There's a shit-ton of Bobs in this country and their numbers are growing daily. What're you going to do with them? Put 'em in a camp somewhere? Shoot 'em? You cannot have Bobs and the America you want. That leaves you with exactly two choices: you pick up your gun and shoot them, or you pick up your passport and leave. It's one or the other. You might not like the taste of this shit sandwich, but you're going to eat it whether you like it or not.

Also, you think Bob's a little kooky? Go visit 4chan's /pol/, visit whatever 8chan became, visit the comments section of Zero Hedge, read the comments on FOX's YouTube videos: those motherfuckers make Bob look like a goddamn bastion of rationality. Those people, the ones who're yelling at their screens and pounding out febrile screeds? They're armed. They hate you. They want to kill you. The only reason they haven't is because they haven't reached critical mass yet. Give them a couple of years of post-Covid economic collapse and they'll get there.

I'll never forget the most important lesson a Holocaust Survivor taught me: "The smart Jews left first".

Good luck; see you in Lyon.

Yes, our country, it's values, morals, and ethics are all in dire shape, but I believe it's not beyond saving unless we give up and move to France....then it will probably be a Chinese colony in a decade.

Precision Water Drop Saves Home

lucky760 says...

Fucking A.

*quality

because in ALL my years of seeing aircraft drop water (even including the first drop in this video), it ALWAYS looks like the water is evaporating before it touches down or generally having not much of an effect.

I've always wanted to see dropped water actually put something out up close. This is a red-letter day for me.

Finally scratched that decades-old itch. So satisfying.

VFX Artist Shows You How Much Water is Actually on Earth

newtboy says...

Perhaps (interstellar steam rockets excluded), but it is often effectively removed from use.
The natural replenishment rate is well below our use rate. That's why central California is sinking, we pulled so much water from the ground that it's collapsing beneath the farm belt, while also taking so much river water the fish can't survive.

Using it usually means contaminating or evaporating it. The latter will be recouped eventually by simple condensation, but the former is often a difficult process to reverse and often can be permanent.

Sagemind said:

Using water is not the same as depleting water.
We use water, but it recycles itself. Using water doesn't mean it's been removed from the planet.

The Engineering of the Drinking Bird

Why?

ChaosEngine says...

Actually, this is not as daft as it looks.

If you water your lawn when it's hot, most of the water evaporates before the grass can absorb it. Depending on how long / heavy the rain is, watering it can still make sense.

Of course, that ignores how stupid the idea of lawns in hot countries are in the first place.

2 Drops Of Spilled Mercury Destroyed This Scientist's Brain

MilkmanDan says...

Another thing to keep in mind is that different forms of elements and chemicals have very different properties.

Pure elemental liquid mercury is pretty cool stuff. Lots of people (myself included) can remember playing with elemental mercury in their bare hands in chemistry classes, etc., and even that sort of cavalier use basically never resulted in cases of mercury poisoning.

In sheer statistical terms, I gather that it is relatively safe to have pure liquid mercury directly on your skin -- cupped in your hands, say -- for short to medium periods of time. Open wounds, even small ones, can make that significantly worse. Even ingesting elemental mercury generally doesn't result in too much absorption into the body, but it remains a terrible idea. Evaporation of elemental mercury even at room temperature can lead to inhalation of mercury vapor, which is drastically more dangerous. So, ventilation and environmental controls are quite important.

This organic mercury sounds like terribly nasty stuff, but fortunately people are very unlikely to be exposed to it outside of a lab or if you are a scientist who is intentionally synthesizing it.

I think it is kind of a shame that those high school chemistry type sessions of messing around with elemental mercury are pretty much gone today. On the other hand, even though the risks are lower with elemental mercury like that, the rewards aren't really all that high either. I have fun memories of messing around with the stuff, but it wasn't by any means necessary or important outside of pure academic curiosity. Better safe that sorry I guess, particularly when the extreme end of "sorry" results in horror stories like this.

The Truth About Jerusalem

newtboy says...

Perhaps it was, perhaps it wasn't, but now it's unequivocal that we aren't working for peace, we are working for Israel, and finding a solution that's acceptable is exponentially harder, especially since no one trusts us to keep our word anymore and we can't mediate.

This gave Israel their biggest wish (besides all Palestinians just evaporating) and offered the Palestinians nothing but a nice "Fuck you", stay off our holy land. For that concession, we got nothing, zip, nada. Great mediating...give one side what they want, then pretend mediation doesn't work. What a negotiator, the best ever. Fuck.

Can anyone honestly tell me that in their wildest dreams this somehow advances the peace process? That's like Miss America thinking she won't be oogled while changing by the pageant owner in her dressing room level naivete.

bcglorf said:

The video rant is over the top, but so is the reaction to moving the embassy to Jerusalem.

Saying something like "there goes the peace process" is just bizarre.

Can anyone honestly tell me that in our wildest dreams a future two state solution with Jerusalem split down the middle was EVER going to happen? That's like a Miss America speech level naivety.

Erics PSA: Don't forget to vote for the videos you like (Sift Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

I can only speak for myself, but I feel like the community that was present here 5 years ago has all but evaporated, so I don't really come around to vote so much anymore. I guess, reddit, imgur etc have really taken hold too, so the content that would be big here, is often there first because of the huge user base. I dunno.

I also loathe the new design here, which has sorta scared me off. It's a shame really, but it's the way things go.

Greenhouses of the Future, Growing Food Without Soil

Ad Attacking Comey Before He Testifies

newtboy says...

Not to avoid an investigation...that's illegal, and apparently what happened. Good thing he failed as usual, and only intensified the investigation.

Trump is not under PERSONAL investigation, his campaign, for which he's responsible, is another story. Even if it turns out that Trump himself was totally unaware of his people working with Russia to win the election, that doesn't absolve him of responsibility, nor does it make leaving him (or Pence) in office proper.
There are multiple investigations, and Flynn was one of them. He was absolutely the target of the Flynn investigation.

Yes, he leaked his own, non classified notes....because the president was going on TV and bold faced lying to the public about what happened, and as a patriot Comey wasn't going to stand for someone intentionally interfering with an investigation into something so serious and trying to make it just evaporate, so he took the extraordinary step of leaking his own notes to try to push congress towards a special prosecutor, because Trump had fired the regular prosecutor and threatened him.

If Cosby fired the prosecutor in his case and chose the new one personally, would you trust the trial process to be fair anymore? That's what Trump tried to do, but failed.

bobknight33 said:

Boo hoo...

Comey best testimony is that Trump lied on why he was fired... Boo hoo..
Trump is Comey boss. he can be fired for any reason or for no reason. grow up this is the same in any business.

The testimony also indicated that Trump IS NOT under investigation. Flynn was looked at but not as a primary target of the investigation.

Comey was one of the inside leakers. He leaked his own memo.
