Stephen Fry Explains Why Some Believe Everything Trump Says

newtboy says...

He doesn't own most of the properties that bear his name, in case you're confused. In fact, there's no evidence that he owns any of them since he won't release any financial information.
I'll admit, he was great at selling his name as a brand, but today his name is Mud. Watch how many skyscrapers or clubs he puts his name on after he's out of office.

That's not what Republican senators are saying, many have started using the "I" word in public.
BTW....Hillary DID win the election, but lost the electoral college...something you seem to have forgotten because you believe Trump when he says he won by the biggest margin ever and there were 3 million fraudulent votes, all for Clinton (even though the only one actually found voted twice for Trump) and you never even check to see if it's true. (It's not)

At least we finally have an investigation of Russian involvement (and any cover-up of it) where Trump can't fire or blackmail the lead investigator. Time will tell what he finds.

Yep all the real estate in his name -- there MUST be another TRUMP.. The Donald must be an imposter.

no impeachment is coming just delusional leftest hell bent on derailing Trump because Hillary won.

The failure of the media, explained

newtboy says...

Most pundits were actually mostly right about the election, which they said was extremely close after the FBI claimed to have new evidence implicating Clinton in the last weeks, a ploy I called in March 2016 when Sanders was cheated out of a fair nomination process.
Clinton won the election cleanly, to my surprise, she just lost the electoral college.
What I think they missed was the vitriol of the right and the ease with which Trump manipulated them, riled them up, told them 1/2 truths in rapid fire ways so even when lie one was exposed, he was already on to lie #27, paired with uncontradicted insanity like 'I know the military better than the generals, and only I can protect the nation' braggadocio.

Also, a bit funny that he thinks the pundits from the left should be fired for getting their prediction of a close, interfered with, unprecedented election 'wrong', but not the pundits from the right that got every prediction of doom and destruction, collapse of civilization, and other complete bat shit insane claims and predictions that they made during the last administration wrong...nope, they should be the presidents closest advisors.

John Oliver - Sweden and Undercovered Stories

newtboy says...

Where to start? You're provably wrong on every single point you made.

It's actually been made clear he mistook a political anti-immigrant interviewee and clips from their movie (already debunked, btw) he watched on Fox for a news report on crime in Sweden.

2016 Swedish crime surveys showed a stable crime rate over the last decade, no marked rise. This was just one of the falsehoods in the movie/interview, and a good example of why getting his "information" from Breitbart and Fox and discarding the intelligence community as political opponents is treason level incompetence.

The vast majority of voters don't, and didn't support him. He lost the election, bigly, he only won the electoral college.

There are so many reasons he's a disaster to talk about that we need every mouth available on the job. ;-)

Uh, pretty sure it's been made clear Trump was referring to the marked rise in crime among the immigrant population there relative to before the recent migrations into Sweden. Seriously, it's this sort of liberal bias even in humor that got Trump elected. Keep pissing off the majority of voters like this and it's just gonna get worse. Would someone please shut John Oliver and Bill Maher the hell up so more rational liberal analysts can properly explain why Trump is not good for the country?

Bill Burr Doesn’t Have Sympathy For Hillary Clinton

newtboy says...

Stop. Because I think that doesn't mean I write them off. No person is perfect, I don't write people off because I disagree with them, or even if I think they do things I find distasteful. The minority blatant racist faction, however, I can't forgive, even though it might be the best solution. Some behavior shouldn't be tolerated, imo, but that's just, like, my opinion, man. I don't expect others to agree, and don't shun them if they disagree. I get that I'm abnormal.

Clearly, a huge percentage, mid 40's, found him the lesser of two evils or better. I agree, if the center wants them back, they'll have to reconcile, but forgetting what they're willing to accept to deny a Clinton power is a horrible idea, imo.

I'm not a democrat, but technically, Clinton won the election, she lost the electoral college. The Senate and house, your totally right on, though, which is more frightening to me, because THEY are elected democratically, unlike the president. At least they weren't actively appealing to and courting racists, though.

My last appeal from a different angle.
You said:
I have been clear that not all, or even a majority of Trump voters are blatant racists, but they all are willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with blatant racists and support blatantly racist policy....

You are writing off everyone that voted Trump for pretty much any reason as either racist, or willing supporters of racists. Stop me here if I'm misrepresenting what you are being clear on.

Assuming I'm safe so far, here's my fear: You are almost enthusiastically embracing the us versus them mentality that hate thrives on. What's worse, is this mindset, which it would appear a great many democrats and media outlets share, strengthens the us versus them dynamic.

Maybe that doesn't scare you. It would seem likely even that the democrats aren't scared of it either. It seems that being 'right' on the matter is believed to be enough.

Here's why guys like me are scared though. Your guys LOST the election. I'm afraid I'm watching the democrats chase off Trump voters that just wanted jobs to feed their families at EXACTLY the time when you need them. Chasing them off is how you lose the next election all over again. If the democrats can't get the message that the Donald was considered the lesser evil by a huge part of America and change themselves to reach the people, then what will wake them up?

Is Trump actually president?

newtboy says...

John Lewis is far from the first person to publicly consider him illegitimate.

The Russians played a part in the election, but not as large a part as the DNC.

After 8 years of loudly claiming Obama was not a legitimate president, Trump complaining about people saying the same thing about him is just rich.

Keep in mind, Trump does not have a mandate from the people, he has a mandate from the electoral college.

Seattle: Time Lapse Aerial Footage of Women's March

Cavuto: How does it feel to be dismissed, CNN?

newtboy says...

They are not me me team. I'm not a democrat.
Faux is so far beyond biased that, for over a decade, it's repeatedly been proven that watching Faux makes you LESS informed.
CNN is far from perfect, but Fox is the grand champion of fake scandals....birth certificate, Vince Foster, WMDs, Benghazi, .....nothing else need be said.
If he ran as a democrat, he would probably have been screwed just as hard or harder than Sanders, he would absolutely not have won, democrats don't believe any insane thing their leader tells them like republicans will, because democrats are more likely to be college educated (22% more) so they know better.

I lost before the election started when Sanders was cheated out of the nomination.

Trump bashing will go on for his lifetime, he has ensured it with his bat shit crazy rhetoric. You might note that Faux was leading the charge against him, calling him an idiot, a liar, and completely unqualified to hold office until it started looking like he would win, then they changed their tune.

Fake news and biased media are FAR worse from the republicans, just look at the myriad of fake stories about Clinton in the last 6 months, then compare with the fake Trump stories, and there's no comparison, no one has accused him of running child slavery rings, or of murdering numerous close allies over some made up secrets, or of intentionally abandoning diplomats and military personell in hostile foreign countries, but Clinton has dealt with fake news since the 90's (dealt with it poorly, granted).

I am adult, Bob. Ask your president elect to grow up, he won the electoral college (not the electorate by 3 million votes though) but he's still acting like a spoiled 2 year old.

Edit: You might notice that the story that set Trump, and therefore you, off was NOT a fake story, it was a piece about a real report on what MAY or may not be a fake accusation about a foreign government having blackmailed the president elect (that they helped get elected), a report produced by the intelligence community for, and given to Trump (who may well be the one that leaked it, in order to distract from it with his outrage, knowing it would come out eventually). Maybe that's a good reason a president elect might want to not throw a tantrum at the intelligence community, they can destroy him with no effort if they choose just by reporting claims they've heard....like he does. Not good....sad.

bobknight33 said:

You just bent because you you team is finally getting called out for what they are. Biased and fake .

Look Fox is bias but the other promote FAKE news at any cost. to keep their team (democrats) in power.

If Trump ran as a democrat he still would have beat Hillary but there would be no Trump sex allegations and no Trump buss tape. It would not be published.

Grow up you lost and this Trump bashing will go on for 8 years. This fake news bashing will/ has occur for any republican president. The media is biased and pushes fake news.

A Mathematician's Perspective on the Divide

A Mathematician's Perspective on the Divide

Engels says...

I am constantly flummoxed by folks' lack of understanding as to the 'why' of the electoral college. Its meant to prevent what's called the 'tyranny of the majority'. Has to become so lop sided that it should be recalibrated? Certainly. Population count increases and decreases should be reflected in the number of electoral college votes, while preserving the initial intent; making sure smaller states have at least some influence and power.

A Mathematician's Perspective on the Divide

shagen454 says...

Right, what I was saying is that rural states have too much representation. But, more importantly what I was implying - is get the hell rid of the electoral college; the very premise is undemocratic.

newtboy said:

According to what I read, California is among the lowest representatives per voter, not the rural states. The smaller the state, the more representation they get per person...just like in congress.

A Mathematician's Perspective on the Divide

shagen454 says...

You don't see a problem with this? I only see a problem in the fact that we did not try to abolish it with Obama. Probably wouldn't have happened. But, not going by the popular vote is undemocratic... fuck the electoral college, everyone's vote should count, I don't give a flying fuck about your rural "underrepresented" state of inbreds. Every vote should count as it is in a democracy....

harlequinn said:

Side note: there was no competition to win the popular vote. You can't win something there is no contest over. Hillary received more of the vote we call the "popular vote". She didn't win anything. Just like you don't win the most yards gained. It is just another metric that has zero bearing on the outcome of the competition.

The Trouble With The Electoral College; Cities, Metro Areas

TheFreak says...

It does seem like poetic justice if Trump won because of the electoral college and then the electoral college did what they were designed to do and did not award him the presidency.

That's too good a story twist not to happen.

The Trouble With The Electoral College; Cities, Metro Areas

The Trouble With The Electoral College; Cities, Metro Areas

SDGundamX says...

The best way to explain it is that the Founding Fathers of the U.S. basically predicted that someday there could be an outcome like the most recent election, where people voted based on their emotions (fear, anger, hatred--all the Dark Side stuff) and not on logic or reason.

The Founding Fathers didn't trust the common man to be educated enough to always make reasonable decisions and wanted to ensure that there was a brake in place to prevent "mob rule." That "brake" is the Electoral College, a collection of (ostensibly) politically-educated individuals who could prevent demagogues (like Trump) from taking power.

I think this is the first time in history where the Electoral College can do the job it was intended to do. If the Electors put aside political partisanship, they'll recognize how putting a completely inexperienced, hate-inducing liar into the White House is a terrible idea and ensure Trump doesn't get the Presidency.

Of course, Electors not voting along party lines is in actuality highly unlikely to happen as, in the end, Electors are all long-standing and high-ranking Democrat or Republican Party members. I mean, if you were a Republican Elector whose party had spent the last eight years without a Presidential win, watching time and again as legislation in a Republican controlled congress gets vetoed down by a Democratic president, even a man like Trump is going to start to look tempting. So the safe bet is that Trump gets elected anyway and the Elector College proves itself again to be a pointless institution for this and all the other reasons explained in the video.
