Atheist in the Bible Belt outs herself because she is MORAL

I don't think we need a moderator either. If someone is egregiously and personally attacking someone, they can get temporarily or permanently banned by our Benevolent Dictator @dag. Some folks don't like that, but I think it is why the Sift is such a grand place -- the trolls are moderated and if they DON'T self censor, out they go. That doesn't bother me in the least (even though I miss Bone, I get why he is gone.)

What bothers me -- and I have started to write this a couple of times, but I SELF CENSORED -- is when these long "discussions" devolve to essentially two people going back and forth. It ceases to be about the particular video, and becomes about the two Sifters. Nothing wrong with the exchange, but why can't they move it to their personal profiles? Anyone who wants to follow it, can.

But I have learned here on the Sift to never ask anyone to do anything, because all of Holy Hell will descend upon my head, and I will be accused of a host of sins for making a request.

So no request here. Just a suggestion that maybe if you find yourself in a duo-logue (or dueling monologues?), you might consider just sliding over to your personal page.

Or not. Whatever. It's just pixels.

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing to Parov Stelar

I think it's fair to say that fred and ginger are the greatest dance duo of all time. Incidentally, Ginger once said that Fred was such a perfectionist, that there were times, at the end of endless rehearsals/takes, that her feet were bleeding.

Justin Bieber Throws Up on Stage in Arizona/AZ.

Xaielao says...

Knew he was a fake. You know, in the late 80's we had a massive conspiracy in the music world as Milli Vanilli were discovered as having faked their performances, and that they didn't even record their own songs. It caused such an uproar in the music industry at the time that it was on the news for months, the duo was stripped of their awards, shamed by the masses and one of the performers committed suicide.

Little did we know that a decade or two later it would be not only with this sort of fraud be common place, it would be the defacto standard in Pop music (and others.. I highly suspect Country because most of those male singers sound identical, they don't write their own songs and many visibly do not play their guitar even though you hear it being played when they are on stage). Big acts like Bieber are made famous because of their charisma and their sex appeal... and yes, that was the intent for his teenybopper audience. Their flat or unpolished singing voices mean nothing when a computer program just fixes their voice digitally and then they go on stage and just pretend to sing. The handful of times they actually sing themselves the performances are horrid.

Justin Bieber can sing a little blurb on a talk show or over the internet and sound half decent.. millions worth of singing lessons will do that. But when it comes right down to it he's the same no talent hack as the vast majority of the 'pop' world. What is even more funny is that the vast majority of websites, news channels, etc that report this don't even MENTION the fact that he somehow keeps 'singing' even while throwing up. The sad fact is most people have either accepted or become blinded to the fact that Mili Vanili were only precursors to a new industry standard.

In the end I feel bad the most for our children. They are growing up with this fake garbage and don't even know it. It's all so focus tested and programmed in that each new hit is the same and they don't care. It's why with my daughter I try and teach her to be eclectic with her musical tastes. I really don't care if I don't like what she listens to, just so long as she know how fake pop music is these days. Thankfully she's got her dads musical genes.

Surely this guy can't get elected?

Surely he can get elected. George W. Bush was elected twice.

I think you just highlighted exactly why he couldn't get elected. The system is not designed to attract the best and the brightest and the statesmen who wish to serve and to put the country's interests ahead of their own or ahead of their party.

Left and right both have adopted the lesser of two evils approach In 2004, the left said, "anyone but Bush", and in 2012, the right said, "Anyone but Obama" When you don't really care about your own candidate, you're just voting against the other guy, you've got a broken system.

The first past the post system is a dud. Abolish all parties, vote for the person, not the party. If that means we have 42 candidates instead of 2, then fine. If that means the guy with most votes only represents a small fraction of the total vote...tough. We already have shitty turnout in our elections and presidents are already elected by a small fraction of the populace so really, what's the difference?

and lastly. eliminate all private funding from elections. money is not speech. speech is speech, that's why we have two different words for them. Every candidate gets a publicly funded website to do what they want with it. That's all you fucking need in today's world. no stupid billboards and lawn signs, no commercials. Just a website and a series of debates. That's all we fucking need to make a choice.

It's shit like this that make me wonder if Heinlen isn't right. You can't lead unless you've served. There has to be some demonstration that you're willing to sacrifice. I'm not just talking about military service either, there are plenty of ways of demonstrate selflessness and willingness to serve than just the military. We just have to identify them and ensure that our wannabe leaders abide by it.

[EDIT] Ooops, I thought you were referring to Powell, bareboards and Duo
