This is amazing. It reminds me of the when the Miami Dolphins were winning and did an intentional safety and gave the other team 2 points and gave them the kickoff. With only seconds left on the clock, they won that game.

So what you're saying is, the Dolphin is basically surfing without a surfboard on an underwater wave created at the bow of the boat.

Haven't Googled anything, but I think it's like ground effect in airplanes and helicopters. The dolphin is pushing against a horizontal "column" of water the ship is pushing in front of it. Allows it to move along with little effort.

I would think that, to the dolphin, it feels like how a dog does with it's head out a car window. All the benefits of moving fast, with almost none of the effort.

The CBC has a show called the Passionate Eye and they did and episode on re-evaluating the intelligence of animals. Essentially, a group of biologists and psychologists said we need to reclassify how we structure intelligence. Make it a tiered system with the top tier containing Humans/Primates, Elephants, Dolphins/Whales, a certain species of crow, and octopi. =)
