Wow. My stream must be so strong that red wave seems to have turned around and become blue. So much for gaining 60 seats and a senate super majority. That giant red wave was barely a ripple so far, with a lot of blue mixed in. Once again, reality doesn’t resemble your predictions.

Fetterman just won. A Democratic gain in the senate.
Cortez Masto is well ahead, a predicted easy target for Republicans. The senate is looking safer already.
Warnock leads, but it’s likely there’s going to be a runoff.
Bohbert is losing.

Mastriano lost. Lake lost. Oz lost. Dixon lost. Trump lost.

Dems are ahead in most contested races, with mostly democratic leaning areas left to count.

Abortion rights propositions are winning.

Americans are apparently buying what Democrats were selling, even stroke ridden Democrats, and it’s being reflected in today’s votes so far.

Thank you Supreme Court. Your far right activism drove young people to the polls.

Edit: I guess you all are tired of winning?
Ouch, your red wave fails to materialize the same day Tesla stock tanks because Musk sold the first 10% payment for Twitter. Condolences.

You pissing into the RED wave and it does not matter.

Americans are not buying what Democrats are selling and will be reflected in todays vote.

judge dredd-interrogation scene

gorillaman says...

No man, that body armour, those boots...I'd harvest the bones of a thousand murdered infants to build our bed if that's what it took. Do you think that's what she wants?

I had to go rewatch this. It's practically perfect. Not an origin story, no romance subplot, no compromise. Just a day in the life of Judge Dredd. Love it, but my favourite Dredd story was told in rhyme:

They'd been waiting there since nightfall for the Sharks to come along,
They knew they'd have to pass this stretch of street.
So they'd sharpened up their stickers and they'd brought along their bars,
And they were wearing steel-tipped stompers on their feet.

There was Big Frank Zit and Faceache, Crazy Joseph with his spear,
The Dixon Boys were there and Billy Rat.
Ike the Spike had brought his sister with her homemade ghetto blaster,
And the Ghoul had put new rivets in his bat.

Now it wasn't nothin' personal that they had against the Sharks,
Any bunch of dead-end spugs would do.
'Cos there was nothing they liked better than to mash and bash and stomp,
Same as any normal Mega-City juves.

"A-rumbling! A-rumbling! We love to go A-rumbling!
("AAAH!")
We love to lay in ambush in the night!
("AAAA!")
A-rumbling! A-rumbling! The Zits were born for rumbling!
(SMAK!)
There's nothing we like better than a fight!"
(KRAK!)

Then a headlight pierced the darkness - a rider gaunt and grim,
Daystick drawn and ready in his hand.
     The chin belonged to Dredd,
And the voice as well, which said:
"You creeps can do your rumbling in the can!"

"It's just one judge!" cried Cindy Spike and opened with her blaster -
"I'll send him back to Central in a sack!"
(SPOING! "AAAAAAA!")
But Dredd's bike absorbed the blast and laid her on the street,
With tyre marks running right across her back.

Then the judge got down to business and his daystick rose and fell,
Striking out at every head he saw.
For though the Zits launched the attack, the Sharks were fighting back -
And self defence is no defence in law!

As the heap of bodies mounted, Big Zit could see his Waterloo,
Waiting just one station down the line.
Oh, sure, he loved to rumble - but he preferred to be on top...
"Let's scram and live to fight another time!"

("Dredd to Control! We got forty-plus juve rumblers fleeing east through Bernstein. Zits and Sharks, back-up required."
"Wilco, Dredd!"
"Med squads and meat wagons to Moreng Alley. Estimate twenty casualties, more to follow."
"Control to all units area Bernstein. YPs on the run."
VRMMMM!
"Pick 'em up!")

In the space of sixty seconds there was a judge on every street.
From watching bays others scanned the slab -
"We got two Zits runnin' fast though the Tamblin Underpass!"
"Krupke here! I got 'em in the bag!"
(THUNK! THUNK!)

They cut them off at Sondheim and they mopped them up on Wood,
On Pedway 12 they corned Crazy Joseph.
He tried to make a stand - but a spear's not worth a damn,
When it's up against a judge's high explosive.

The Ghoul surrendered quietly, he didn't have much choice -
Ike the Spike tried to scale the sector wall -
("Save your bullet, he'll never make it." "Oh no! AAAAAAAAAAAAH!" SPLATT!)
The Dixon Boys all copped it when they tried to hitch a ride,
On the 2020 Zoom to Bernstein Halt.

Big Zit thought he'd play it clever, the law was everywhere,
The safest thing for him to do was hide -
Dredd tracked him down on infrared - "Don't bother to come out!"
"The best place for trash like you is inside!"

In minutes flat they'd caught them, every Shark and every Zit.
To Dredd it fell to ladle out the years -
"Twenty years apiece for Cindy Spike, Billy Rat and Ghoul."
An extra ten left Big Frank Zit in tears.

For Faceache minus half his face, for the hapless Dixon Boys,
For Ike impaled so cruelly on his spike,
For Crazy Joe with his gaping hole, there'd be one final rumble,
Along the last conveyor belt at Resyk.

A-rumbling! A-rumbling! They loved to go A-rumbling!
But the Zits will go A-rumbling no more!
A-rumbling! A-rumbling! They loved to go A-rumbling!
But they should've known they couldn't buck the law!

Garfunkel and Oates "The Fade Away"

eric3579 says...

We've been on a bunch of dates
I weigh debates that this creates
And hate that state of forced introspection
We traded wit, we swapped some spit,
You fingered me a little bit
But we never really had a connection

You did nothing wrong, I have no excuse
Just my intuition telling me we shouldn't reproduce

I know I have to end it
But pretend to just suspend it
By contending that I'm busy all week
I let the foregone linger on
Text back with an emoticon
Withdraw from you by being oblique

Inside I know my tactics just delay it
But I'd do anything so I don't have to say it

I'll draw this out forever like it's Vietnam
Then one day I'll be gone like Bambi's mom Awww

Cause there's the right thing to do
Then there's what I'm gonna do
There's so much I should say
But instead... I do the fade away

Now I'm fading like chalk on a sidewalk
Or the polio virus after Jonas Salk
Like a Jewish guy at Sizzler on Yom Kippur
The Whig party post Millard Fillmore

The erection of a man on antidepressants
The cast of Diff'rent Strokes after adolescence
Reproductive rights below the Mason Dixon
Native Americans after the barter systems
Your thyroid gland after Hashimoto
The family in the Back to the Future photo
Yeah I fade away

We say that men are asshole who don't communicate
We revel in our victimhood and amplify our hate
We find ways to be indignant like it's a sport
Then dissect their malignance with the views we distort

The way men break up may be sloppy and terse
What they do is bad, but what we do is worse

We pretend to ourselves it's the nice thing to do
To let you down gently by just not ever telling you
And deep down we know it's the worst way to play it
But we are what we have... huge pussies

And women are hypocrites
Especially ones in comedy bands
We see your faults but not our own
Then we wonder why we're all alone

We fill you up with maybe's, excuses and stalls
But like a baby in China... it's better to have balls

Not the Good Wife type like Christine Baranski
So I'll pull out and leave like I'm Roman Polanski

Cause there's the right thing to do
Then there's what I'm gonna do
There's so much I should say
But instead... I do the fade away

Like Verbal Kint fading into Kaiser Soze
The rights in Arizona for a guy named Jose
Opportunities for a college grad
The love between your mom and dad
Gonna Peter out like a gay Cetera
Iranian relations since the Regan era
Black Nike sales after Heaven's Gate
Summer Camp attendance at Penn State
The name Adolph after World War Two
Like Debbie Gibson's pop career, Out of the Blue
Yeah I fade away

Cause I don't wanna get to know you
I just want to blow you... off

TDS 2/24/14 - Denunciation Proclamation

newtboy says...

Nope, your comprehension is apparently even lower that I thought. The Mason Dixon line point was finished with before you brought this point up by stating (incorrectly) "(Oh, and by the way, everyone is against slavery in 2014. No one is impressed by your "hatred" of it. Please.)"...this was clearly wrong, and I corrected you. Eventually you 'admitted' your mistake by turning to derision instead of being able to answer.
I classify your lack of response to my answer to your ridiculous question ("You know folks involved in human trafficking who are opposed to slavery?" my answer being "I don't need to know them to know they exist" and an example of exactly the kind of people I was talking about) as admission that you had no answer to give.
Alll you could come up with was "Yeah, far be it from me to stand between you and your hacktivism! lol" (whatever that's supposed to mean)
To me, that means you conceded that you had no response and you 'lost', or that you now understand that there certainly ARE people involved in human trafficking that don't want to be and know it's wrong. That's my position every time when someone ignores the 'debate' and moves to ridiculous derision, like you did.
Get it now?

P.S. I classified your concession that these 4 states bordering the Mason Dixon line are not considered 'northern' or 'southern' as a coming together in understanding of the terms being used.

Trancecoach said:

So you classify my concession of a Mason Dixon line as a "loss" of this "debate."

Well, then good for you! Congratulations and "you enjoy that!"

newtboy says...

Joking aside, these 'border states' are usually not considered union or confederate, (north or south) when discussing the civil war because they supported both. That was my real point about the Mason Dixon line, border states, and not calling these states 'northern'. MmmmmmK?

Trancecoach said:

Delaware is considered a northern state. Maybe not by you but by others.
And when I lived in Maryland, everyone there seemed to consider it a northern state too. But ok, you don't consider it a northern state. Cool.
(Ask anyone in Boston if he is a "Yankee" and see how that goes!)

TDS 2/24/14 - Denunciation Proclamation

newtboy says...

States below the Mason Dixon line were (and are) not considered "northern" states, even though some of them did not secede. That's why I mentioned it in the first place. Just ask someone who lives in one if they're a Yankee and see how that goes!
I did note that Delaware is East of the Mason Dixon, not North or South.
These "border" states were also the ones Lincoln tried (and failed) to compensate for the 'loss' of their slaves...before the war. (because his cabinet didn't follow along is testament to the fact that he put his political opponents in his upper administration in order to NOT be a unilateral decision maker...that didn't work.)

Trancecoach said:

Delaware is actually within the "northern" side of the line which forms an L with Delaware to the East of it. But what does the line have to do with anything being discussed? They are also BELOW the north pole, so what?

TDS 2/24/14 - Denunciation Proclamation

newtboy jokingly says...

I'm not a free university either, but I am civil enough to share with you the fact that all of these "northern" states are BELOW the Mason Dixon line.
EDIT: except technically Delaware in some maps I find.

Trancecoach said:

I'm not a free university. It's not my job to educate you or to challenge your apparent historical expertise by telling you that there were four slave states which remained in the Union (Maryland, Missouri, Delaware, & Kentucky). I already responded to the rest of your comment in my previous posts above (and yes, taxes had something to do with it).

TDS 2/24/14 - Denunciation Proclamation

newtboy says...

I guess you missed the part where they told you that he tried exactly that, to 'buy' the slaves for a year, to no avail?
Slave owning Northern States? Explain please, I don't know about any slave states north of the Mason Dixon line at the time of the civil war, but perhaps my history lesson was incomplete. I'm fairly certain there were no northern states seceding.
Slavery was becoming more inefficient in large part due to the policies of the federal government taxing the products of slave labor at high levels than those of the industrial north. I was taught that that was a main reason for the move towards secession, causing the war, which leaves some saying 'see, it was about taxes' and others saying 'nope, it was about slavery'...they're both right and wrong, it was about many different things to different people and regions.

Trancecoach said:

The point is, for what the Civil War cost, they could have, for example, bought all the slaves and freed them, like the British crown did. The South may have seceded to preserve slavery, but the North did not go to war to end slavery, but to prevent secession (from Lincoln's own words). The North didn't go to war with slave-owning northern states, did it?

Slavery was economically inefficient, and with the northern states abolishing slavery, the South would have let go of it in possibly a short time. Low wage workers are much more economically efficient. And only 6% of southerners owned slaves. They would have had a hard time competing.
