I'm just going to dive in and say that this is awesome.
Exploring the deepest pool in the world on a single breath
Alexey Molchanov's World Record Free Dive to 130m has been added as a related post - related requested by Mordhaus on that post.
Herbert Nitsch, The Deepest Man On Earth
can't say I would promote this - fine that this guy can develop this talent, but we frequently lose deep dive wannabes who try this without proper support teams and end up drowning due to shallow water blackout...

FOUND Missing 12 Thai Soccer Kids Trapped in Flooded Cave
I've been following this story here. Sure was happy when they were found alive -- I had started to lose much hope after they'd been gone 4+ days.
The bad news today is that a Thai volunteer diver, a former SEAL, died on a return trip from setting up extra air supply tanks along the route. BBC coverage is very good:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-44734385
Most cave diving experts think that it would be extremely risky to try to move the kids out by diving. One of the on-scene people from the US has said that none of the boys know how to swim, let alone dive, and the conditions in cave diving make it so that panic can quickly lead to disaster.
Unfortunately, a new complication has come up. Oxygen levels in the chamber they are in are now at 15%, down from the usual 21%. They are working to get piping in to supply fresh air, but logistics of that are difficult since they need about 3 miles of piping. And to make matters worse, heavy rains are in the forecast, which will further stress the pumping that they are doing to keep water levels low in the cave.
The Thai head of the Navy rescue operation was quoted today as saying that "At first, we thought the children could stay for a long time... but now things have changed, we have a limited time." If that is correct and can't be resolved (due to dropping oxygen levels, rising water, or whatever), they may have to opt for the risky exit via diving. So definitely not out of the woods yet.
A Perfect Circle -- Disillusioned
Lyrics from https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/perfectcircle/disillusioned.html :
(Dopamine, on dopamine...)
We have been overrun by our animal desire
Addicts of the immediate keep us obedient and unaware
Feeding this mutation, this Pavlovian despair
We've become disillusioned
So we run towards anything glimmering
Time to put the silicon obsession down
Take a look around, find a way in the silence
Lie supine away with your back to the ground
Dis- and re-connect to the resonance now
You were never an island
Unique voice among the many in this choir
Tuning into each other, lift all higher
(Dopamine, on dopamine...)
Willingly been re-wired by clever agents within
Looping our reflections, our obsessions draw us in
Fix and fixation, no sentience beyond
We've become disillusioned
So we dive like crows towards anything glittering
Time to put the silicon obsession down
Take a look around, find a way in the silence
Lie supine away with your back to the ground
Dis- and re-connect to the resonance now
You were never an island
Unique voice among the many in this choir
Tuning into each other, lift all higher
Best fake soccer dive (fall) to draw a winning penalty shot
For anyone who is really interested in how the referee team works together during large matches, I'd really recommend the documentation "Referees at work". Here is an example of the controversial ref decision by Howard Webb and also how they discuss a potential dive / foul. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOaxTdoIgT0
Container Ship Collision In Pakistan
Which ever dive team working that site can take the rest of the year off after they finish. Those billable hours ain't cheap.

Best fake soccer dive (fall) to draw a winning penalty shot
A few leagues have been using the VAR system (video assistant referee) for a while now, and it'll also be used at the upcoming World Cup in Russia.
They only interfere in case of obviously incorrect decisions by the ref or situations of significant impact (i.e. penalties, send-offs, off-side goals, etc). This particular case would have led to the ref booking the attacker for a dive.
Works pretty well in Germany these days after going through some issues in the first half of this season.
Why doesn't soccer have instant replay for the refs?

Counter Protest Attacked In Charlottesville, Va
Fair enough, but I thought my longer explanation by examples made my meaning more clear. Making calls that people should not be allowed to deny membership into private clubs/groups based upon behaviors and choices is going to dive away people you need to get the support of.
IMO the Dems need to stop calling out the flying spaghetti monster club for denying membership to people who eat spaghetti. Spaghetti eaters still have their right to eat spaghetti, they just don't need to join a club of people who think that's immoral. Save the outrage for the FSM branches that deny membership to those without noodley appendages, as that has now crossed over from a choice/behavior and into something immutable.
If we can agree on that in principle, let me then step forward to the real example.
Stop telling Christians that not accepting non-christians as members or leaders in their churchs is immoral or intolerant or bigotry or evil. Most of the major religions in the world on some lesser or greater extent declare each other immoral. Live and live is enough, you don't need to demand they accept membership or leadership candidate from other religions with beliefs or practices they consider incompatible with their own. Oh, and if the Dems really want bonus points here, who you choose to have sex with and how you choose to do it can be included in this.
There's a big difference between accept and endorse.
I don't think it's unreasonable to demand acceptance....our constitution demands it imo. If it didn't, being a Nazi would be illegal.
