Avengers Assemble

renatojj says...

I don't care who plays Bruce Banner anymore, just please stick with Mark Ruffalo from now on, preferably with a 10 year contract? He seems like an OK non-diva dependable choice for the role. Otherwise, can you imagine the next Bruce being played by Zach Ephron or the twilight werewolf guy? That would be the end of the Hulk for me.

Ricky Gervais 2012 Golden Globes Opening Monologue

dannym3141 says...

I thought he was funny. People complain that he wasn't insulting enough but given the range of people that were presenting he'd be a bit hard pressed to insult half of them cos they're the nice end of the hollywood spectrum - banderas, portman, etc. they're hardly flamboyant or selfish or anything. Got a few really good insults in, made a fool out of depp and depp loved it, got elton thank god, and a REALLY good insult about the lavishness of the affair during a recession which for me made this the best speech of all he's done; great statement from a man who has enough money to pay no attention to the hardships of a recession.

Just look at that miserable fat fucking flamboyant diva cunt elton john. Miserable twat, i felt my soul start to drain as soon as the camera centred on his jowly podgy churchill cheeks. He's like a fat, old, ugly, slightly camp dementor sucking up the joy everywhere he goes and depositing misery in its place. I've never seen an old man throw a temper tantrum like a 6 year old girl until him. Cos that's what he is. Old. And a D-list celebrity.

Sorry.

Webcam captures artist's 736+ hour performance piece

griefer_queafer says...

I tend to agree with you. It is an oddly dated piece. But I still think she is a fascinating figure in the 'art world'. Ugh. Hate that word.

From the NYT review:
" The museum estimates that, if she can stick to the plan, she will sit for 716 hours and 30 minutes, earning her a record for endurance in the performance art sweepstakes.

In a sense the whole business is another act of self-enshrinement in the art world’s ego Olympics, and that’s not interesting. Divas are a dime a dozen, and I don’t trust charisma anyway. More interesting, because it ties in with her impulse to conserve a possibly unconservable art form, is the way “The Artist Is Present” attempts to control time, hers and ours.

I have no idea what her experience of sitting in that atrium for all those hours will be; there has to be some serious agony involved, which is where she hooks up with her implacably daredevil younger self. But my guess is that her presence will have a demonstrable effect on visitors to the museum; that it will slow them down, get them out of drive-by looking mode.

And every now and then someone will slip into that chair across from her — that’s what it’s there for — and spend some time exchanging stares, or energy, or going blank, or thinking, maybe for the first time, about that hard, high-flown, funny word “endure.”

Upvote for not being radical-left-wing-GWIZ-lie-machine-democrat-payola-shitt. This video is a proud one percent of it's kind on VS.

First off.... what?

second, this does nothing for me unfortunately. I appreciate the time that went into this, but it's not beautiful, it doesn't show anything deep about the people she sat with, its just.. sitting.

USA For Africa - We Are The World (1985)

robbshell says...

With the imminent release of the 2010 model, I had to come back and watch this one. I didn't realize it was 7 minutes long--all music. They really chopped it back in 1985. It brought back memories with friends. Also, a hilarious comedy bit by Bette Midler on her "Mud will be FLUNG tonight"Album. It was strictly comedy with maybe two musical numbers.....but she came off a hilariously funny riff with the following..."WE are the rich....we are the famous...." I look forward to the new one.....With the Divine Miss M's background position in this '85 version and her busy schedule, the resident diva will be Barbra. We don't need the last name.......This new woman whose name out diva's all the women in the first one....Diana Ross, the Pointer Sisters, Patti Austin, Dionne Warwick, Tina Turner....I will be tuned in this Friday for the opening ceremonies for the OLYMPICS in Vancouver to see this new version. AND PLEASE REMEMBER---this money is for people who never had anything before the earthquake, and absolutely nothing now. And the saddest, the orphans. Let's help them. Buy ten copies and hand them out. I live in UTAH--have nothing to do with this organization, but we need to help. And we need to not stop in Haiti....there are so many places that are so bad we would think they set it up and then ran behind a jungle wall an hopped into a Bentley and went home.....JUST HELP
