The Flashing Lips of the Flame Scallop

Swarm Robots Cooperate with AR Drone

Couldn't each ground unit just flash with a unique id code? ...and couldn't each instruction from the aerial unit then use a coded prefix to direct individual ground units? ...and couldn't that happen on the millisecond time scale?
The disco lights don't seem very efficient?

The problem is that the "skybot/drone" is using a relatively inexpensive webcam. These things don't have a very good framerate, and there are a lot of factors that ccould drop frames. If any frame is dropped, then it would misinterpret the "ID" of the ground robot. A webcam is good at discerning red vs. green vs. blue. Something that is faster- IR from a TV remote- has the problem of being non-dimensional, so the drone wouldn't know which ground robot was "talking". Something that might be neat would be the 2D IR sensor from a WiiMote, but I'm not sure what kind of framerate those are capable of.

Also, adding extra sensors to the drone, or getting better ones, or using a faster cpu, would not only increase cost, but more importantly decrease battery life of the drone.

Probably the speed of the LED blinking identification was slowed down for this demo, so it could be explained to the viewers. It's likely capable of going much faster.

The main problem I see in "real world" application is daylight - if it's bright outside, it's much harder to discern color. But at least if our robot overlords attack at night, we'll see them coming in rainbow glory!

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense (complete)

The killers of disco. The Talking Heads were a huge influence on my musical taste growing up as a young child in the 80's. This is an excellent concert from an excellent band. Bravo for the great post!

OK, by 'bunch' I can only think of one more off the top of my head, the water jetski ironman flying contraption thing I saw the day before.... still two australian/nz pieces in two days served by an English paper's site is odd

Having seen this on a flight, it has the nice side effect of everyone having a chuckle together, being distracted, and relaxing before take off... when people are usually tensing up to get ready for it.

So it worked?

I wonder what happens if one doesn't like to exercise and disco music.

Cute Girl Shows Off her Hooping Skills

The song was popularized by Old Crow Medicine Show who has long been affiliated with Alt Country/hippy jam fests. To be fair to OP though, there has been a bit of a fusion of the "scenes." Live electronic bands like the Disco Biscuits, Sound Tribe Sector 9, and the New Deal spawned this sort of new breed of "hippy-raver hybrids." As @visionep pointed out, there is somewhat of a natural symbiosis there. Anyway, this unholy alliance has come so far along as to push classic hippy bands like String Cheese Incident, Galactic, and Medeski Martin and Wood towards more electronic influenced sounds. These days you see kids on phish tour rockin' skrillex tattoos (oh the humanity). Whatever. I for one welcome our next generation of inebriated overlords. We all like to get down. Let's get down together.

@visionep I known a lot of [insert creative subculture] that love bluegrass/Americana/old timey/folk music. So this isn't really all that strange to see. Also, this isn't exactly your normal country music you hear at some truck stop in Kansas.

So raver culture has infiltrated country music festivals? Awesome.. I always knew the two were related in some way.

There are some people that shouldn't wear spandex... and then again there are some people should, especially when they are showing off for a video that I am going to be able to view.

i think "festy" culture would be a more appropriate and inclusive term.
sounds more bluegrassy/west coast than country.

Oppa You're My Style

Ridiculous or not, it's just as catchy as the Macarena was. Further, I'd challenge any male OR female,to grow weary of watching cute little Asian chicks dancing in unison in children's clothing..HELLO??!! The goofy guys moving like retro pimped-out disco-gangster urchins is an added, fucking bonus!! Great dance, great hook, great phenom.

Dexter's Justice

This is so well done that when I first saw it I thought the music was composed to match the episode.
Also, I love the music "Justice - Peace" in the first two minutes. It's so industrial and shrill but it still so musical. Is there a name for this genre?

Do you mean "Stress," by any chance? That is the first song. It samples "Night on Disco Mountain" from Saturday Night Fever (which is why I like it so much, and the sample lends a lot of the shrill musical elements to the song). The overarching genre would be electro house.
Modern examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RJG0gi09ku0

Looking into it a bit more, the album from which that track is taken is considered disco house or electroclash which fall under the electro house umbrella. If you are looking for the feel of this specific song, you might be out of luck - it's pretty unique (I am not aware of many similar tracks). But you may find something you like if you look around the previously mentioned genres!

GANGNAM STYLE Dance By Bears Cheer leader Team & Bodyguard

This new fad dance is pretty hardcore....The whole idea of a plump Asian man showin'-out disco-styley with fit young gals is kinna like watching a teddy-bear-costume-wearin', death-metal band at a $5 dollar cover bar!
