Obama Confronts Heckler Demanding Public Option
Actually Obama personally intervened to make sure a public option wouldn't happen. Besides the fact that he excluded any group that wanted a public option from meetings throughout, he also personally lobbied congressmen against Dennis Kucinich's bill that would allow states to pursue a universal health care system on their own.
Corporate interests = Buy. Obama = bought. The people = Consumers. Consumers = Buy what they're sold.
President Obama Signs HCR into Law
Two cents from Dennis Kucinich:
"This is reform within the context of a for-profit system. And the for-profit system has been quite predatory — it makes money for not providing health care."
"My concern was that this bill was hermetically sealed to admit no opening toward a not-for-profit system, no competition from the public sector with the private insurers. Which makes the claims of a government takeover such a joke. You know, those who claim that this is socialism probably don't know anything about socialism — or capitalism."
Kucinich -- NO on Obamacare
I agree. Dennis Kucinich vs. Ron Paul 2008 would have been a hard decision for me. Obama vs McCain was a very easy choice.
He is right about the Public Option though - government decisions are owned by corporations. such a shame.
Dennis Kucinich: Bush & Cheney Should Have Been Impeached!
>> ^choggie:
Votors should be impeached, flensed, rendered, then recycled.
They already do that to themselves.

Dennis Kucinich Raises a Valid Point on Health Care
>> ^gtjwkq:
So Kucinich's argument is "if government is wasting so much money on wars and bailouts, why can't it waste just a few more on healthcare?". Two wrongs don't make a right.
Except that last I checked, Kucinich also wants us out of Iraq and Afghanistan, as well wanting to make large cuts in the defense industry. It's not a question of two wrongs making a right, it's simply a question of moving money we're already spending. In fact, because we spend so much on "defense", we could cover the cost and then some if we were willing to cut war spending.

Dennis Kucinich Raises a Valid Point on Health Care
>> ^quantumushroom:
Not only is promoting the general welfare (ie. health, happiness and good fortune) of the citizens a power granted to the congress in the Constitution, but it's in the same fucking sentence as the one that grants funding a common defense, that you like so much.Because providing for a common defense is written into the Constitution, while taking care of citizens' every need (and want) is not.
Quill42 already addressed this issue but I wanted to put an exclamation point on it:
welfare: Health, happiness, and good fortune; well-being
There's a lot of shit the government is involved in that I don't think it has any business being involved in, and I don't know how I feel about all of the ideas floating around as part of healthcare reform, but the idea that the government shouldn't have any interest in the health of its citizens is pretty stupid.

Joe Lieberman On Why He Will Filbuster To Kill Public Option
Joe has a great idea! - create a gov't run oil company to compete with private companies. I'd vote for that too. How many billions in profit does Exxon Mobil make every quarter??
Check out the story of congressman Dennis Kucinich when he was the Mayor of Cleveland- he saved Muny Light, a publicly held power company. Lots of controversy, but in the end it saved all the people a lot of money.

*face palm
He's just a man, another politician who knew what the American people wanted and needed after 8 years of Bush. He's not a revolutionary and dramatic shift in US policy. That would have been Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul.

Obama on Investigating Bush Crimes: "Need to Look Forward"
If U.S. voters truly wanted an administration that would seek to vigorously investigate members of the Bush administration for their roles in authorizing torture, then they should have paid more attention and supported Rep. Dennis Kucinich during the Democratic primaries and in his efforts to impeach Bush and Cheney. But let's face it, the reality is that's not the electorate that exists.
As much as it frustrates me personally that the Bush administration is not (and likely will not be) held accountable for its misdeeds, I feel that Obama is simply being pragmatic.
