I could hear Smashmouth song lyrics, and the talking piano (reminded me of Dr. Who Dalek), but didn't hear the thud of jumping transmission line tower.

The sound of the cicadas made me think of Dr. Who's Daleks at first. Then I realized the sound wasn't coming from the Roomba.

There was a lot of posturing from Star Wars fans (from stardestroyer.net, I think) for a long time, with exaggerations about the power of imperial starships. However, some fans have done an extensive (and pretty ridiculous) amount of work to make a lengthy comparison, that, while only as accurate as can be interpreted from the provided material, does come out in strong favor towards Star Trek technology:

So yes, NdGT is correct, and really, you don't need to do the extensive research the fans did to confirm that. Logistics in a post-scarcity civilization alone gives a significant advantage.
But this is to be expected. When you have a TV show as focused on science and technology as Star Trek, it will certainly excel.
Meanwhile, Star Wars isn't supposed to be about high end technology. For them the technology is only there to highlight the story. The charm of the Millenium Falcon is not that it's a god-like ship that can mop the floor with everyone else, but that it's some guy's souped up junker that's full of surprises. The Death Star isn't the ultimate weapon, but a weapon of fear. (A weapon that destroys excessive amounts of available resources is impractical for anything else, and that especially includes Starkiller Base.)
And if there really needs to be some sort of sci-fi-peen competition, you can go the complete nonsense route with Doctor Who, where one Dalek could probably conquer both the Trek and Wars universes with minimal effort.
Or the overkill route with the Culture, where wiping the rest out would be an idle task, pursued for entertainment.
Star Wars fans just need to chill and embrace their universe of junkers and quaint technology. Star Trek fans have already embraced the fact that their universe isn't about action and explosions. (No, we don't include the Abramsverse.)

Looking forward to this. I've been binging on the old Doctor Whos, Series 7 & 8 (Jon Pertwee & Tom Baker). They are so different to the last few years. The old ones had a real sense of menace that few of the new stories have. Not as cartoonish and some like "Genesis of the daleks" are so bleak they would never make them now. Less swelling music and melodrama, more hard sci-fi.

Please don't go all dark and gritty on me.

I'm starting to wonder if my suspicion that John Hurt is playing a Doctor between the 8th and 9th Doctor is correct. At the time I came up with that conjuncture it seemed sound, the one who had to destroy Gallifrey to save the universe from the Daleks. But I'm starting to think he may indeed come before all of the Doctors... so the Doctor count is still correct, but the incarnation counts of the individual known as the Doctor may be off by one. That is we are on the 11th Doctor, and the 12 incarnation of whomever, about to go to the 12th Doctor.. of course even if he is between the 8th and 9th Doctor's, as he didn't take the name Doctor, that leaves the count correct... still, he says in the trailer the moment he's been running from his whole life, which I wouldn't think would be the destruction of Gallifrey since that happens long after the 1st Doctor... of course they can see forward in time, so perhaps he's been trying to avoid that moment and somehow thought when he stole the Tardis (or she stole him as she says, ) that he'd be able to avoid it... this of course brings up the question of why take his grand daughter with him for a life on the run... I still think Oswin Oswald is the Tardis, she did after all get the 1st Doctor to take another Tardis than the one he was going for...

Daleks would vaporize you. If you're atoms refused to stick together, you'd also vaporize. And that wasn't really death by stare, as much as death by not looking before crossing the street because you're staring.
