Cops Getting Caught On Video Hasn't Led To Convictions

newtboy says...

Well, I had it drycleaned....when are you taking me out?

No, opportunity is not the same as evidence, but is an important part of making a case.

I'm pretty sure there was body camera evidence of him saying he was going to kill the guy during the chase (maybe a different case), but none of the shooting or aftermath from any officer's body camera. This is the uselessness of a camera they control, it should be always on, live streamed to a secured server, not with an on off switch and no backup.

Remember, the only evidence we know of that he's a drug dealer came from the same suspicious search. Once the cop has opportunity to plant evidence, the case is blown because it's reasonable to think they might have, so any conviction is out.

Once he shoots, there's no reason he should have anything else to do with the case (unless he was alone, but that's not the case here). Allowing the shooter to be the investigator is a clear conflict of interest and allows a suspect to investigate himself and tamper with evidence. Normal procedure would be for him to let others take over immediately and surrender his gun pending investigation....so there is no legitimate reason for the killer to be in the car.........

Edit: and how to explain he cop DNA on the gun but not the victim's? It makes no sense unless it's the cop's gun never touched by the victim and placed afterwards, otherwise it would at a minimum have his blood on it and logically his sweat and fingerprints inside and out.

The cops had reason to search, on camera, but not the shooter with his body cam turned off.

I do go to bed hatting you but then I think of you in that yellow dress then all is well.

Having a clear opportunity to plant evidence is not the same as planting evidence.

When was his body camera on? When was it turn off? You are making a reach that he turned it off to "plant a gun" . If this happened then yes I would have more suspicion towards the cop.

Other than facts you are speculating , pure conjecture of a planting of a gun. That does not hold up in court..

Ok

Black guy shoots me - a white drug dealer -- then plants a gun in my car .. but only evidence is a bystander showing the killer messing around in his back seat then goes to my dead body in the car and later a gun is "found" ... But no one see this planting -- DNA of only the black shooter found on the planted gun.

Yes in this case you might be convicted of planting a gun.. Or some other that would suggest that you planted the gun.

..........Only because there is no reason for the killer to be in the car...............

The cop had reason -- to search for weapons/ drugs / paperwork of the car etc. So not quite apples to apples.

America Without Gerrymandering

newtboy says...

Gerrymandering is totally undemocratic. It's insanity that legislators can draw their own districts, and I don't think any other country allows this. it's simply stupidity to allow such clear, undeniable conflict of interests that are so easily and consistently abused, particularly with something so central to how democracy works.
At this point, there's little chance of change, seeing as the only people with the power to effect change are the same people benefiting from the broken system.

Trump's "Hamilton" Feud Distracts from Conflicts of Interest

RFlagg says...

Not to mention, Trump was far more upset at the cast of Hamilton over their statements of asking Pence to keep in mind the diversity of America, than he was over literal Nazi's, around the corner from the White House saying "Hail Trump! Hail Our People! Hail Victory!" That get's a generic "continued to denounce racism of any kind", but a in response to very real fears of minorities, LFBTs and others, rather than say "It's okay, I understand your fears and I will be a President for all Americans" he instead attacks them for their fears... plus all the conflict of interests which were around long before he won, which constantly amazed me was never brought up when he was complaining about her supposed conflicts of interests. It's like the media wanted him to win...

Unarmed Man Laying On Ground With Hands in Air Shot

Use of Deadly Force rules vary by state and even by jurisdiction.

This has to stop.

We should have laws about the when the use of deadly force is legal, set at the National level. Also, we can't have Police investigating themselves for violations, or to have their local Jurisdiction handling the trial. The police work with the legal side of things enough that there is a conflict-of-interest... both on a personal and monetary level.

One of two things need to happen for any trust to be restored, either Police need to stop screwing up... or they need to be held accountable for their actions by the courts.

Weird, I got excused from jury duty in Aus because my sister worked as a clerk in the prosecutors office. Not that I mind, but it was cited as a possible conflict of interest.

But we're in Australia where there is at least an attempt to make the system seem fair an impartial.

America. Fuck yeah...

Babymech says...

I totally agree with this; it seems beyond insane that a blood relative wouldn't immediately recuse himself / be automatically recused, regardless of the case or its merits. Since I'm only an IP lawyer and never actually get involved with courts I don't know if this conflict of interest is criminal, or if it's just gross professional misconduct.

I'm not at all sure about the trolls, but ignoring the clear conflict of interest by the judge certainly is a moral crime if not a legal one, and hopefully one that will get him removed from office quickly AND give defendants a valid appeal.

Hmm... are you sure these are crimes? I guess that a fraudulent lawsuit could be criminal if the plaintiff would knowingly try to enforce a non-valid patent... but since they have explicit confirmation from the USPTO that the patent is valid, it seems difficult to claim that they 'know' the patent is not valid... though it's obviously common sense.

How is this still a thing? How is that not a conflict of interest? Why doesn't Google jump in to protect their customers? Why aren't these overly vague patents thrown out? How do they get approved in the first place? Why does poop smell?

Bernie Sanders...The Revolution Has Just Begun

bobknight33 says...

There is not a difference between Democratic Socialist and Socialist. It is just a terminology to use as a stepping stone towards the full implementation of Socialism. It just semantics to fool the sheeple.

From their web site: American democratic socialist party...
Their Constitution states:

We are socialists because we reject an economic order based on private profit,

We are socialists because we share a vision of order based on popular control.

We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production.

We believe that such a strategy must acknowledge the class structure of American society and that this class structure means that there is a basic conflict of interest.

So Its aim is to make all people equal-
The people run the company.
All get paid equally.
The floor sweeper and the one with the PHD all equal.

If you had talent to open a business should you and your worker make the same money?

Private profit is a bad thing. so much for the entrepreneurial spirit.

Democratic Socialism is a fools paradise.

Why Trump Should Soon Be In Prison

newtboy says...

Wow.
True enough, nothing will likely happen because almost all of them break the law daily....
...but then to devolve into a ridiculous, factless, even actually claimless attack on Clinton (not even sure which Clinton you mean, or what 'hideous' occurrence, or when) while admitting ALL politicians do the same things is just laughable.
If you admit all politicians on both sides share Clinton's faults, why single Clinton out? Why not instead single Sanders out as the most honest and consistent politician in high office, or Warren,...or even go old school Republican with Ron Paul, who may have had some nutty ideas, but was certainly not a liar or a wind sock (turning which ever way the wind blows).

Today, US politicians won't prosecute other politicians that are in their party no matter what their crime, but are willing to prosecute those on the other side of the isle for non-crimes, which is a clear conflict of interest and proof that their prosecutions should not be in their own hands.
As a prime example, I note that there was no censure or any repercussion at all, much less prosecution for Grimm who was caught on camera making hideous death threats directly to a reporter for asking a question he didn't like. (although he was later convicted of other felonies, but not by congress)

Chaucer said:

this will never stick so why bother. politicians wont prosecute other politicians unless its something hideous that occurred... Like Clinton. Not sure why we would want that family back in the white house. they are nothing but a bunch of lying sacks of shit. but that could be said about all politicians.

how social justice warriors are problematic

ChaosEngine says...

Fuck gamergate. They are not, never have and never will be about "ethics in journalism".

They are straight-up misogynistic assholes that make me ashamed to be associated with an art medium/hobby that I've been involved with for over 30 years.

Let's just put this in context. They claim they are against the collusion of game companies and journalists.

First up, the specific instance they targeted was not a conflict of interest. There are absolutely, undoubtedly, HUGE collusions between game reviewers and games, but gg ignored all those because they were for AAA mainstream games that gg likes and instead accused journalists of giving higher review scores to indie games.

Here's a fucking hint: go read some movie reviews, and tell me if you see movie critics favouring indie movies over blockbusters. Of course they do. People who are seriously into something almost always prefer a niche product. See also: craft beer vs budweiser, restaurants vs McDonalds, etc. I could go on.

But here's the cheery on the big cake of poo.

When a games journalist dared to express an opinion against an otherwise well-reviewed game*, what did gamergate do? Applaud their journalistic integrity in offering a dissenting opinion?

Nope: they started a fucking campaign to get the game company to blacklist the reviewer.

The hypocrisy is simply staggering.

And I haven't even mentioned the doxing, the rape threats and so on.

Once again, fuck gamergate. Frankly, they're on a par with the KKK as far as I'm concerned.

* polygon gave Bayonetta 2 a score of 7.5/10 because the reviewer felt it was juvenille and over sexualised. gg started a campaign to get nintendo to block polygon. Nintendo, to their credit, ignored the little fucktards.
