Daft Punk - Epilogue

moonsammy says...

My first exposure to Daft Punk was in 1997. Hanging out before concerts at First Avenue in Minneapolis, they'd always play weird videos and music pre-show. I was immediately intrigued by the video for Around the World, and was a fan of the group from that point on. I'm happy for them, they've had a wildly successful run, without falling prey to their own celebrity. Absolute legends.

We Still Don’t Know How Bicycles Work

newtboy says...

I must disagree.

First, it's precession, not procession, paired with the "caster effect" and static friction. It's a self correcting system that only works when in forward motion.
This nonsense with counter rotating wheels countering the gyroscopic effect ignores the fact that only the forward rotating wheels are using friction to direct the path of the bicycle based on their angles. It's not JUST the gyroscopic effect, that only determines the resistance to angular change, it's friction directed by gyroscopic precession and the self correcting caster effect. Come on.

Nobody knows how we ride bikes?! (A different claim from we don't know why they can remain upright when ghost ridden) Nonsense, it's balance plain and simple. If you don't keep the center of gravity exactly above the contact points with the ground, you tilt. When the centrifugal force exceeds static friction of the tires you slide out or when gravity exceeds the opposing centrifugal force caused by turning, you fall. Try turning your bike but staying exactly upright, no lean. Now, when you heal, try leaning without turning, lock the wheel straight, you'll fall again. It's multiple forces in concert.

I think a decent physics teacher would wipe the floor with this. It ignores so much to make these "we just don't know" claims.

Lawyer Reacts to Smartmatic's $2.7 Billion Dollar Suit

newtboy says...

No basis in fact?
What was the business worth as of Nov. 3rd? What were projected earnings for the next ten years? Take those numbers, add them, now multiply by 10 for punitive damages for a)destroying the companies through libel and slander and b)severely damaging America's voting system by eroding trust in a trustworthy system that cost billions to create....I think they aimed low, they should go for $2.7 Billion from each defendant, not jointly. Make certain no one ever tries this treasonous type of lie again.
I also think any damages caused by frauds should put the perpetrators in prison until restitution is fulfilled, this isn't just accidental mistakes that accidentally harmed a company, it's a concerted effort to defraud the American people that intentionally destroyed the future for these companies among other massive damages.

Nina Simone: Mississippi Goddam

Ashenkase says...

On her debut album for Philips, Nina Simone in Concert (1964), for the first time she addressed racial inequality in the United States in the song "Mississippi Goddam". This was her response to the June 12, 1963, murder of Medgar Evers and the September 15, 1963, bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, that killed four young black girls and partly blinded a fifth. She said that the song was "like throwing ten bullets back at them", becoming one of many other protest songs written by Simone. The song was released as a single, and it was boycotted in some[vague] southern states.[31][32] Promotional copies were smashed by a Carolina radio station and returned to Philips.[33] She later recalled how "Mississippi Goddam" was her "first civil rights song" and that the song came to her "in a rush of fury, hatred and determination". The song challenged the belief that race relations could change gradually and called for more immediate developments: "me and my people are just about due". It was a key moment in her path to Civil Rights activism.[34] "Old Jim Crow", on the same album, addressed the Jim Crow laws. After "Mississippi Goddam", a civil rights message was the norm in Simone's recordings and became part of her concerts.

Hey, Republicans Who Supported This President...

newtboy says...

Absolutely untrue. There was plenty of condemnation of the rioters and arsonists, and how they were hurting the equality movement. Also discussion of the concerted effort by right wing extremists to kill, burn, and bomb pretending to be BLM in order to spark a race war according to their manifestos.

Also, it's a false equivocation. There's a big difference between the crimes of looting and arson in the effort to gain equal treatment under the law and the treasonous crimes of trying to take over congress by force to, somehow, steal the presidency....Also called a coup.

I cannot decipher the second sentence, your translator broke again.

How to Apply Your Mask

BSR says...

I got the feeling after watching some of her other videos that she targets a group of kids that have had a tough and abusive life. Her words or lyrics or style harmonize with victims and gets their attention but may also elude the "fortunate". She also shows hope that they can overcome just as she has.

Music, no matter the genre will reach those that are looking for answers to cope with whatever the damage may be and the answer will always be, "you are not alone in being alone."

-----------------------------------

All alone, or in two's
The ones who really love you
Walk up and down outside the wall
Some hand in hand
And some gathered together in bands
The bleeding hearts and the artists
Make their stand
And when they've given you their all
Some stagger and fall, after all it's not easy
Banging your heart against some mad bugger's wall - Pink Floyd

The Spirit of Radio

Begin the day
With a friendly voice
A companion, unobtrusive
Plays that song that's so elusive
And the magic music makes your morning mood
Off on your way
Hit the open road
There is magic at your fingers
For the spirit ever lingers
Undemanding contact
In your happy solitude
Invisible airwaves
Crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle
With the energy
Emotional feedback
On a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price
Almost free
All this machinery
Making modern music
Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted
It's really just a question
Of your honesty, yeah, your honesty
One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity, yeah
Invisible airwaves
Crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle
With the energy
Emotional feedback
On a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price
Almost free
For the words of the profits
Were written on the studio wall
Concert hall
And echoes with the sound of salesmen
Of salesmen, of salesmen - Rush

some vicious propaganda that is.

(or would that be anti-propaganda propaganda? 'cause normal propaganda was pro-mask and this was anti-that? either way, haven't felt that spooked since they tried to indoctrinate me into the cult of mary kay)

China bankrolling Biden Center at UPenn

Drachen_Jager says...

Your guy and his cronies literally quote Nazi propaganda, openly support Nazis, openly support and laud dictators while denigrating democracies and democratic process both within the US and in other countries. At the same time a concerted effort has been in effect the past years to stack the courts and public service so heavily with blindly subservient ideologues to the point where laws and the constitution often have no bearing on judicial decisions any more if they impact the president or his allies.

In short, Trump has been engaging in one of the most transparently dictatorial power grabs of the twentieth and twenty-first century.

And you're worried about a report from a news agency known for inaccurate and biased reporting that maybe his opponent might have been involved in something shady (but without any actual evidence to back up their claims)? I mean it's not like Biden personally sees that money. China gives a shitload of money to US universities in general. If you want to connect the dots there, go look at Harvard, they receive a billion dollars a year from China, and yet you'd rather trace a few million because they happened to go to a school with Biden's name on it. Great detective work, Mr. Magoo!

If Trump came out in public tomorrow with a toothbrush mustache and a Nazi armband you'd still support him, wouldn't you?

If it walks like a Nazi, quacks like a Nazi, and supports Nazis, it is a Nazi.

I hope you can fill in the blanks, @bobknight33

I hope it's just that you just don't realize what you've become and you still somehow believe you're doing "the right thing", but honestly your lack of any semblance of integrity strains that perception. The alternatives, that you're intelligent and fully aware of what you're doing, or you're a propagandist for a foreign power who is merely acting in support of his own nation's goals are the less kind (but sadly more likely) interpretations.

So...... you are somewhat into other guy's "pen's?" Either way, it doesn't matter to me. As long as you can get it to write on the subway walls and tenement halls and studio walls and concert halls.

You won't have to. They pay, you make a ton of money, and then they take most of it. (after all, they have to pay for all the things in the credits at the end.
