9-Year-Old Tanzanian Boy Recaps Schwarzenegger's Commando

Nice video , good advert. it does however raise the issue of parental responsibly of letting a kid watch such a violent film at a young age ( for people that care about that sort of thing )

Eh, I don't think it's a big deal. I think I was about that age when I watched Commando for the first time. The violence is so over the top in that film, it's essentially a cartoon.

Portugal decriminalises drugs. Crime/Usage falls.

kranzfakfa says...

Hey EMPIRE, iberian backup here.

Also as a portuguese I have to say this did wonders for the drug problem. I was but a wee lad but I still remember some of the shitty, shitty, oh so shitty swaths of Lisbon infested with drug addicts. Casal Ventoso comes to mind, looking like a gigantic dung pile right as you enter Lisbon from the 25 de Abril bridge. Mind you, it's still no place to go pick flowers, but the improvement is visible.

As for myself, I lived on the ground floor of an apartment building in the middle of some projects. Next to our house was this apartment block where construction was stopped halfway. The whole thing was a concrete skeleton populated with drug addicts. It's funny now but back then I was instructed to duck into a coffee house if I suspected someone was following me on my way to school. Made me feel like a commando, good times.

Anyway, these days the whole area is cleaned up and looking quite nice (they finished the damn building) and even some of the more disruptive communities seem to have integrated well into the cultural melting pot of eternal suspicion.

As for how this relates to the US, from what I have learned watching The Wire and Fox News it seems like there is a different way of seeing drug users there. Due to the link to violent crime, it looks to me like many americans see drugs = mad, rabid, possibly angy black man criminals. And since Amurka don't negociate with no gawdamn terrarists, you are stuck in an escalation loop. And I'm sad to see that it looks like nothing but a complete crisis will break it. Since the link to violent and organized crime never fully developed over here, people still look at junkies more with pity than anything else.

tl;dr: Life is better because of this. Drug addicts are lost people and fighting them is fighting yourself.

>> ^EMPIRE:

as a portuguese, I vouch for this project.
Drug addiction is a disease. A sickness, and must be dealt with as such. Not by treating addicts as criminals, but by treating them as people in need of assistance.

Israeli Commandos “Executing” Flotilla Passenger

theali says...

Israel does have many hours of footage that they shot themselves and the many recordings that they confiscated from the passengers.

They would have released the the tapes in their entirety, if it would have indemnified them. They have only release a couple of minutes of highly edited and selective clips, of passengers defending their ship then labeled all the passengers as terrorist sympathizers.

There was an American citizen killed on that flotilla, there is no disputed of that. I can't believe US is acting so passe over that. If ANY other country had done this to US, there would have been a HUGE retaliation, but with Israel, US even comes to their defense.

Watch the TYT analysis on the incident:

>> ^kronosposeidon:

Well I'll grant you that much. I also believe that the Israelis had no right to board the ship. However, in this particular video, I can't tell if the Israels are harming anyone or not. That's why I say it wouldn't be useful as evidence of wrongdoing.
Everyone knows the Israelis boarded the ship, but exactly what happened after they boarded the ship is uncertain, and this video raises questions without answering any. That's why I say it's not useful. >> ^theali:
The fact that they boarded a Turkish ship in International waters is wrong to begin with. >> ^kronosposeidon:
Not a video I would use as evidence of Israeli wrongdoing. Can't hardly see shit.

@<a rel="nofollow" href="http://videosift.com/member/robbersdog49" title="member since May 22nd, 2007" class="profilelink">robbersdog49 Do you really categorize this as "snuff", are you for real?
Do you know how difficult it was to get ANY footage out of the flotilla, without the Israeli army confiscating it? The Israeli army has itself recorded hours of the incident and confiscated all the recorders they could find from the passengers. We see none of those recordings in custody of the Israeli army.
These people risked their life and brought attention to an illegal blockade, and all you can do is to "cry wolf" and close your eyes.
This happen in International waters and not in Israeli waters, as far as I am concerned, these are in line with actions of the Somali Pirates.

Firstly, I understand the situation, I don't need to know that someone died to know that it happened. You suggesting that without this footage I'd think they just shook hands is a straw man argument. It's just not logical.

Secondly, yes, if this video shows what it claims then it's snuff as clearly described by the rules of this site. The rules are clear:

"The presence of human fatality is acceptable and not considered "snuff" if presented as a limited portion of a lengthy educational, informative news report or documentary. Our definition of "snuff" does include but is not exclusive to any short clip in which a human fatality occurs whether or not any victims are actually visible on camera."

So, firstly the clip is just a short bit of footage and not part of a lengthy news report or documentary. There's surely no way you can deny this. The clip is only 22 seconds long. That just isn't lengthy. Secondly, even if the action isn't very clear you'll not that this is also provided for in the rules.

Yes, this is an important situation. Yes people should know about it. Yes, it's all very wrong. I agree with you about the political situation and about the actions of the Isreali troops. However, that doesn't give you carte blanche to ignore the rules of the site.

I beg to differ, I just love it when non-force users stand toe-to-toe with Sith or Jedi. Who says you need the force to be a badass. Commando grenades FTW.

15 min of Raw Footage from Before and During Flotilla Attack

KimzSendai says...

Pprt: Thank you for sharing this footage.

Notice how the dopey Westerner considered everyone there "soldiers".. sigh.

I think, and I could be wrong on this, that the Westerner is talking about the two Israeli commandos that were incapacitated in the first attempt to board the vessel. I only think this because we see the blood on the hatchway early on in the video.

Glenn Greenwald Blasts Israel's Rationale for Seizing Gaza

NordlichReiter says...

rougy: ummm... you do realize the commandos were stabbed with knives and seriously beaten (they are seriously injured, there's no question about that) before they opened fire?
Imagine yourself in the shoes of these peace activists, can you really imagine yourself coming to the conclusion that stabbing the commandos is the only appropriate course of action? you can argue all you want about the legitimacy of taking over the boat in the first place, but grow up, what sort of gentle peace-loving mob would be able to seriously injure commandos?

You're missing the point there. They boarded at international waters, that is a crime. Whether or not the ships had intent to travel to Gaza is another story. Just because someone has intent does does not mean they have committed a crime, unless that intent is to harm another person.

If I told you I was going to cross the fence of your yard, and just stood at the fence you could not act on me for crossing the fence. Why? Well because I didn't cross the fence, I simply had intent to cross the fence. Does that give you the right to come onto the sidewalk and fuck my shit up? No. In short Israel doesn't have a legal leg to stand on, and neither would a person defending his property by going outside of that property.

Is it Israel's right to blockade a population? That I don't know and I would differ to much more informed people.

The argument is, Israel over stepped their fucking bounds. They're like North Korea only they are supposed to be the good guys.
