The Trouble With The Electoral College; Cities, Metro Areas

entr0py says...

I just found out over the weekend that there is a way to ensure that the presidency goes to the winner of the popular vote, without modifying the constitution, and without getting rid of the electoral collage. Basically, once enough states sign on to the agreement, they will all vote as a block for whoever won the national popular vote, regardless of who won their state. 11 states have already signed on.

Also, having proven himself a man of principle, we can assume Donald Trump is on board :

Kind of more specific to the electoral collage and how Trump won states that some thought were going to go to Clinton.

yeah, great fucking landslide there bob.

(and since I know big numbers scare you, that means Clinton won)

I taught myself machine code the commodore Vic 20 and used the Rockwell Aim 65 and the PET computer in collage which also used the 6502.

After collage I went into medical field service and never looked an another line of code.

Fond memories.

http://videosift.com/video/Seattle-cop-kills-nonthreatining-pedestrian

That video has no informative content. It's not a documentary or in any way shape or form follows your guidelines. It just gives an account of an officer killing a man. You hear the brutal gunshots, and see the man's lifeless corpse rotting on the sidewalk. His murder complete, the horror no less worse than my video any day of the week. Showing the shooting is no requirement for snuff... "Whether or not any victims are actually visible on camera."

Oh, and you UPVOTED the snuff... At the time I was personally mortified with that video, but then I kept my mouth shut because I don't ruin strong emotional videos for other people.

Discard that video. It is clearly snuff by our results today. No amount of "other reasons," such as the offender being an officer changes that.

http://videosift.com/video/10-Tragedies-Caught-on-Film

That video is hardly a documentary. It is snuff bullshit. Just a collage of death. I let it go because again it is not my place to attack its artistic conceptualization. Of course my own comments were put in, but I let the issue drop.

Now discard it.

http://videosift.com/video/Craziest-and-most-awesome-animal-compilations-of-the-web

This is my OWN video. This was a wildlife post that was deemed fine by the community after a bit of discussion. Although people didn't die on the video itself, some were killed. But again, it was not a documentary or anything other than the powerful, awe-inspiring reflection of nature. Even though it is "dead" it still must be discarded because the underlying content is still snuff; therefore, it would still be dead snuff.

Discard it.

Again, take your time. We have all the time in the world. We have a long long week of video killing to do you and I

I don't follow what you mean.

My response is in accordance with the same guidelines we've been following since the dawn of siftbot. I'm using our old precedents, not setting new ones.

So, yes the precedent applies to every video on the Sift, but it always has.

Little Help Needed from Anyone with an iPhone 5 (Sift Talk Post)

@lurgee @oritteropo

Excellent! Thanks! Please point your iPhone to this page:
http://www.webdesign-true-colors-design.nl/bette/verhalen/

Each of the little pictures in the big circle collage is a hotspot that when clicked links you to another page. The reported issue is that those hotspots work in all devices except the iPhone 5, so what we need to know is if you click those hotspots, do they open a new page for you or do they do nothing?

Thanks a ton for your help. And I'll also thank you with some PPs!

United State of Pop 2014 (Do What You Wanna Do) - DJ Earworm

Trancecoach says...

My buddy Mike Garfield, over at globalish says about this video:

"t’s that time of the year again: since 2008 (a million years ago!), DJ Earworm’s mashup mania crescendos once a year to form an epic audio collage that features Billboard’s favorite 25, all woven into one symphonic DJ mix. It’s like a Google Earth view of the musical identity of young Americans – by zooming out until a year of singles happens in four minutes, culture seems like nature, and the spirit of the times shines through the often-mediocre music Earworm brings together. Seeing Earth from space, we found a new identity beyond the nation states; a similar escape into low orbit around Pop reveals the flavor of the age with more appeal and sentiment than year-end news reviews.
It isn’t merely that “United States of Pop” resamples factory-assembled dross to offer tunes more interesting than their gathered parts. “Do What You Wanna Do” sings volumes about how and who we are right now, the character of mainstream culture we can’t see until it’s past, the air that we’ve been breathing without paying much attention. The cynical might say it demonstrates how all this music sounds the same, how easily it’s recombined – and while that’s definitely true, it’s also and more deeply true that we’re in this together, and will be remembered sharing space on stage as actors in a common play of history. Here is a window into how this moment will be seen, in digest form, the way we now look back on 1969. But go back and look at the mixes from 2008 – 2013, and a trend is obvious: even lousy music’s getting better. It’s an optimistic sign that we are getting deeper as a culture. Let’s hope.
Earworm’s genius lies not only in up-cycling tracks I’d rather never hear again as standalone recordings, but also in transforming the familiar and mundane into a damn-near magical homage to each year’s zeitgeist. This must be what an end-of-life review feels like: everything remembered and forgotten rushes back for one last joyous and nostalgic celebration.
Here’s to the change we all seek in 2015."

Last Week Tonight - Ferguson and Police Militarization

bobknight33 says...

How do you know his death was unnecessary? I hope you posted this before you learned that the kid had a tussle with the cop, went for his gun and it was discharged during this event.

After that he ran away then charged " Bum Rushed" the cop. and received 6 pills, 4 in the arm and 2 in he head.

The right weapon was used.

The issue is not that a white cop shot a black. It is the fact that a majority of young black men are swept up by the streets. Which leads to disproportional black arrest, crimes, and general mayhem. We are all a product of our choices. He chose to be a thug.

And this young sweet collage bound gentle giant that the media hypes up day an night does not help.

He is a young large thug with criminal history as seen by his arrest record:

Beauty of Mathematics

BicycleRepairMan says...

Hmm cool, but the fingerprint/DNA collage doesnt really make sense, the "script" window seems to show the 60-something codons that matches the 20 different amino acids that makes up the proteins , and the middle part shows a PCR result in gel electrophoresis, a system of displaying DNA markers, (Admittedly sometimes referred to as DNA fingerprinting, but it doesnt actually have much to do with actual fingerprints..) In short, while these three things are linked in that they all have to do with living cells and identifications, there isnt actually any direct links, and, importantly no direct link to math..

Sure, math is used in genetics, protein folding and I guess fingerprint-recognition, but that particular slide made a mess of it.

They Might Be Giants - Minimum Wage

oohlalasassoon says...

At 4 seconds, not if you count "Who's Knocking on the Wall" from Apollo 18, but it, along with the other short tracks on that album weren't intended as songs per se.

"The liner notes, in reference to these tracks, include the message "the indexing of this disc is designed to complement the Shuffle Mode of modern CD players". According to John Flansburgh, listening to the album on shuffle made a collage of songs, with the short fingertips interspersed among tracks of regular length.
