It's really quite annoying when you use the term "right wing loonies" or some other such rhetoric-to-incite whenever you pop spit all over similar posts, no-doubt just as annoying are advocates of sanity and less bullshit. Very sophomoric, and fucking irritating and rude....Simpleton?! How about taking a a bath in the cold waters of of the experiential gravity well?

The "Mpemba effect", hot water freezing faster than cold water, is not currently well understood. Some possible explanations are (summed up from above reading).

Evaporation of hot water is a heat transport method out of the main body of liquid, causing a super cooling effect.

Convection currents in warmer water might spread around ice crystals faster.

Frost effect will tend to cause a generally slow freezing from the top instead of warm water from the bottom and sides

None of these give a full account to the phenomena and each has been individually ruled out as the sum total of the effect. Some myriad of factors or some basic lack of insight into thermodynamics is most likely the culprit.

The short of it is...no one really knows.

Fortunately that's a basking shark, which eats plankton. They're just off the coast of Ireland, so he was probably in more danger from the cold water of the North Atlantic. ;-)

It's not a myth, but it is not understood, and doesn't happen under all conditions.

It's called the Mpemba effect and is an observable outcome.

OK, with laundry, I get Light, Med, Dark but in no way do I get hot/cold!
We wash everything in cold water.
And, what's the deal with randomly choosing hot over cold for certain items?
And to top it off, hand washing is only for stuff that doesn't regularly get washed or bizarre stains.
And those stupid toilet brushes are crap (pun), just dump in some Lysol (to kill the germs) and wipe the bowl out with a cloth. Way more effective.

Yes.

Got mugged once. Was pepper-sprayed right in the eye. Stings like a bitch. And it's slippery so no matter how tight you try to shut your eyes, it gets in, and in your nose, and your mouth. You think that you might not be able to breath, but you breath anyway, and it gets in further.

Tears will pour out of your eyes, and you will cry and cry and cry, but it won't help. You have to flush it out with cold water--and it will take hours to get it all out--though I hear milk or diluted maalox works better.

After a few minutes and brief struggle, I was able to get up and chase down the kids who attacked me. There's only so much you can do when you're outnumbered four to one, and having trouble seeing. I did succeed in scarring the crap out of them. Imagine them seeing the guy they thought they just took out chase them down for four city blocks AND catch them, in spite of a head start. I managed to get some of my stuff back and my wallet, though, they made off with my backpack and some money. Heh. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

When pepper spray is used it is almost always a weapon for assault, not for defence. The incidents I see on here haven't changed my mind of that. The talking heads on this video have no idea what they speak of.>> ^TheSofaKing:

When you do need to peel and cut garlic, it helps if you wash it off with cold water and soap first, then hot. It will keep the pores on your hands closed while you get the majority of it off. That way the smell won't stick around so easily. I assume this is why people don't like peeling garlic because as far as physical effort, isn't it pretty easy? I mean... come on.
