Urgent Warning about Gardasil

BoneyD says...

The CDC state they have been monitoring Gardasil closely and they state that as of 30 Sept. 2010, 56 deaths have been reported out of a total of 32 million doses. http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/vaccines/hpv/gardasil.html. Like Skeeve pointed out, that's 0.000175% of all doses given, an incredibly low number.

There has been no established causal link between these deaths and the use of the vaccine, even cases of blood clots were mostly found to be related to other risk factors.

Now unless we can no longer trust the CDC, I'd say that it's probably a pretty safe bet that this vaccine is worthwhile. I've not done a ton of research on this (obviously) and am always willing to alter my position based on the evidence, but it really feels like this is yet another case of unscientific anti-vaccine hysteria.

Sure Winstonfield, sure.

In the last 18 months these RADICALS...

Have you ever considered that you are the radical (or reactionary)? Is it possible that paranoid gubmint hating god fearing folks are the nutjobs? Any objective view Obama suggests he is still very much right of center, even if it doesn't fit into your worldview. It takes a certain kind of true-believer to suggest Obama is nearing communist territory - and a healthy disregard for political scaling or measurement. Ask anyone who isn't a partisan or teabagger. Better yet, ask anyone from a different country. They'll tell you. Hyperbole is so much more fun though, right?

doubling down on leftist economics, europe in shambles, right-wing economics to the rescue

Even Britain's Conservatives are wild-eyed radicals in your mind. Federal money for kid's hospices? Communist!!!

Please...
Lousy polling?

45.7% after a months-long oil spill....this man is clearly hated by the country and 'Real Americans'TM are clearly lined up against him.

I guess in your mind the following numbers are proof positive of a complete outrage on behalf of 'Real Americans'TM? Or does this suggest that maybe Americans enjoy government intervention?

http://www.gallup.com/poll/140981/Verdict-Healthcare-Reform-Bill-Divided.aspx

And what's this? Majority of Americans support the creation of a public option? Heresy!

I can't tell if you really believe all this, or just like to fuck with people. I don't know which scenario I dislike more.

Incorrect. It is a commentary on his lack of experience, his spoiled & selfish behavior, and his general lack of any ability to actually deal with opposing ideas with any degree of maturity. But false accusations of racism when faced with opposition is a tradition on the left - as we've seen all too often lately.
the hyperbole (radicals)
In the last 18 months these radicals have implemented a plan to ration health care, quadrupled the national debt, established huge unconstitutional increases in federal power over finance and other industries - all against the will of the people. Bailouts, industry takeovers, tax increases, cap & tax, amnesty, health care reform, and on and on and on - all things solidly opposed by a 2/3 majority of the people (or higher). This administration and congress is the most left-wing, radical, out of step clot of extremists that this nation has ever seen in positions of power. The only people that 'like' what they're doing is the 25-30% or so of the country that occupies the far left. Conservatives, Repubicans, and Independents are roundly rejecting everything these radicals are doing - and they make up 65-70% of America.
the blanket portrayals of Europeans as poverty-stricken communists
While Obama & the other radicals are doubling down with leftist economics - Europe is doing the opposite. Greece, Italy, Spain, Britain, Germany - day after day the stories pile up about how they are turning to 'privitization' in order to save themselves from fiscal disasters. It isn't that they're poverty-stricken communists. It is that they have followed the misguided principles of leftist economics, and now they turning to capitalism to pull themselves out of the hole... All while the Man-Child is doing the opposite and putting American further in debt in a time of economic turmoil & trouble. Says something, don't it?

Folks on the left need to learn a lesson quickly. YOU ARE THE FRINGE. The left likes to walk around thinking they are mainstream and popular. You aren't. Leftist policy and philosophy is radical and unpopular. And when you try to ram it down people's throats it makes you even more radical and unpopular. Leftism isn't compassion. It is cruel. Leftism doesn't lead to prosperity or tolerance. It leads to poverty and balkanization.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shock_%28circulatory%29

I'm refering to Grade 1 shock: "Anxiety, restlessness, altered mental state due to decreased cerebral perfusion and subsequent hypoxia".

Basically the one part of the brain would have said, "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING!?"

Anyone who has ever had blood drawn knows that one vial feels like. Two vials, feels twice as bad. Some people even faint. This is cased by grade 1 shock, those two or three vials of blood are what were circulating around your body, bringing oxygen around.

This, is a well done trick. However, it was not real given the position of the needle to the Brachial artery, he would be a fool to do this for real.

Still, the effects of grade one shock could be deaden by practice, there is still a chance he was dumb enough to stab himself. Which he sets in the minds of his audience by walking off stage without pulling the needle out. Normally a wounding such as this, the puncturing object is not removed, because of the resulting re-opening of the wound and subsequent blood loss. The object is best removed by medical professionals who can react quickly with a clotting agent, hemostat, or direct pressure on the wound.

Interesting how worn down the pavement is just in the path of that short back and forth march.

What's the deal with that going back and forth thing anyway? Do they do it every x minutes or something to prevent a blood clot?

Also pretty badass that they carry machine guns now. I still picture them with bayonet-clad rifles or something else more prestigious looking.

Urgent Warning about Gardasil

Skeeve says...

ws.com/Health/CancerPreventionAndTreatment/gardasil-hpv-vaccine-faces-safety-questions/Story?id=8356717&page=1

From that article: "But while some physicians expressed concern over the findings, other doctors viewed the report as reassuring, showing that the vaccine was not associated with any more unusual and serious side effects as other vaccines."

Parker Waichman Alonso LLP/Attornets At Law: "Most disturbing among the Gardasil side effect reports are those that involve the deaths of young women. Three young women in the US died shortly after receiving Gardasil, while two other women in Europe also died after the vaccine was administered."
http://www.yourlawyer.com/topics/overview/gardasil_side_effects

You think a lawyer is a reliable, unbiased source on the medical effects of a drug? "Our Gardasil side effect lawyers are offering free consultations to anyone who suffered serious complications from Gardasil or their families. The Gardasil side effect lawyers at our firm will work hard to make sure Gardasil victims receive the compensation they deserve." Who really stands to benefit from this?

CNN 8.11.8: http://videosift.com/video/Gardasil-WARNING-CNN-Report

This confirms exactly what I have been saying: the side-effects are in line with the side-effects of most other vaccines. Deaths related to Gardasil (yet still not proven to be directly because of it) amount to about 0.1 out of 100,000 doses which is tiny. For comparison, in the US 0.1 of 100,000 children 5-14 die of accidental falls, 22 times as many, 2.2 per 100,000, children in the US die of maltreatment.

32 suspected deaths associated with Gardasil is unfortunate, but does not make Gardasil the scary bogeyman certain people would have you believe.

^Still, I'm going to still lean on the side of carelessness or incompetence rather than anything intentional on Bayer/Baxter's behalf.

Once they discovered the contamination in the US, and could no longer sell them here, they sold them internationally. I don't doubt the initial contamination was an accident, its the fact that they still sold it AFTER it was found.

"An examination of internal Bayer company documents by The New York Times reveals that the company was engaged in unsavory, probably criminal marketing practices. The documents reveal that Bayer continued to sell contaminated blood plasma causing thousands of hemophiliac patients to be infected with AIDS. The company continued to sell the contaminated blood in Asia for over a year when it had already introduced a safer, heated blood plasma version in the US and Europe in February 1984. "

http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1151015

"A class action lawsuit has been launched against the Bayer and Baxter corporations on behalf of people with haemophilia in Asia and Latin America who contracted HIV or hepatitis through contaminated blood products supplied by the companies."

Also named in the lawsuit were the Armour Pharmaceutical Company and Alpha Therapeutic Corporation. The suit was filed in a US federal court in California.

All four companies are accused of distributing contaminated blood products in Asia and Latin America in 1984-5, even after such products were taken off the US market because of fears that they had not been properly screened for HIV and hepatitis C virus.

The class action contends that thousands of people with haemophilia contracted HIV or hepatitis C from tainted blood products. By 1992 the contaminated products had infected at least 5000 haemophiliac people in Europe with HIV, and more than 2000 people had developed AIDS. A total of 1250 people had died from the disease, the lawsuit added.

The lawsuit also found that by the mid-1990s most of the 4000 people in Japan with AIDS were haemophiliac people and that nearly all of the cases were linked to contaminated clotting factors traced to the United States.

In Latin America at least 700 cases of HIV are linked to use of contaminated blood products by haemophiliac people, the lawsuit said. In the mid-1990s the four companies paid out $640m (£390m; €545m) in damages to settle a similar lawsuit."

LOL.. Here we have the example of someone pulling statistics out of their ass. Per mile and per hour a plane is safer... but also the same person says planes are three / ten / or order of magnitude more dangerous (as in deadly?).
Trust me, getting in a car is a lot more dangerous.

Um, no, I'll trust the correct statistics that I just quoted above.

Fatal may be a different matter, as most car crashes are not fatal, while most plane crashes are. (of course leaving out blood clots from flying)

From 1997 Newsweek, cars have .94 deaths per 100 million miles traveled, while trains have .04 deaths and planes and buses each came out the same with .01 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.

As I already said, I don't accept risk per mile as a valid statistic, unless you want to admit to me that walking is extremely dangerous and being an astronaut is very safe. No! These modes of transport are for inherently different spatial scales, and the fact that my plane is covering a lot of distance doesn't make me feel safe about it.

Even if you play some number games with hours spent on the road or in the air.. Planes are most dangerous take off or landing. So to compare to hours instead of miles, just rough ballpark assume a car averages 30 mph and planes average 300mph. Factor of 10 maybe. So deaths goes to cars. I would also say injuries go to car travel as well as financial risk.

I don't need your rough ballpark numbers, I already quoted the correct numbers. The AVERAGE car is 4 times more likely to be in a fatal accident, per hour, compared to the average commercial airliner. But I'm not average. 69% of road fatalities relate to drinking and speeding. I do neither. A huge amount of road fatalities are from rural, non-highway roads which I never travel on. I wear my seatbelt.

Here, maybe this will convince you:
http://books.google.com/books?id=OyuGJJ6rKQ0C&pg=PA362&lpg=PA362&dq=taxi+fatalities+per+mile&source=bl&ots=zqhhjfksFG&sig=U1LhoIUSpsUrji7RA25kyBaYjVA&
hl=en&ei=-DZfStbgFo7cNvOKgMAC&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6

To summarize, if you don't look at averages but take the demographics of people who actually fly, say a safe 40 year old, they are more likely to die on a 600 mile plane trip than if they had driven the same distance.

So yes, for very long flights the plane still comes out ahead. There are plenty of other situations where the car comes out ahead. And if you put a professional driver in the car, as in a bus (not like they're even that well trained) they'll beat the plane by any metric.

And you seem to THINK you have more control because of how you drive, but you don't.

Numerous experts on defensive driving would disagree with you. So would I. So would the analysis that I just quoted saying that the average, somewhat safe driver beats airplanes for trips of 600 miles.

[for safe drivers] a plane trip is ten times as dangerous.

per mile, a commercial airliner is safer

Per hour, the average commercial airliner is four times as safe as the average car

The fact that it would be even more dangerous to spend two full days driving the distance [compared to flying]

They're stepping into a situation an order of magnitude more dangerous than when they step into their average car trip
