CEO cut's salary so he can raise workers pay to 70,000/yr

Asmo says...

You're expecting Lantern to be informed enough to know that the company is privately held? /chuckle

Or alternatively, Forbes and their imaginary investors could just fuck off, since Gravity is privately held...

They are in the payment processing business, historically a high-margin one, they're not going anywhere any time soon.

Trailer for Mr. Holmes Starring Ian McKellen

newtboy says...

I got a slight chuckle from it, no guffaw, but I thought it slightly funny how the old man found the kid almost lying and/or misdirecting, and then being so dismissive of the familial 'relationship' just to be right amusing. I'm a weirdo.
I'll see it when it's on TV, but it didn't look worth paying for.

A: "I didn't actually know him."
B: "Hahahahahaa."

I am perplexed by things like this in commercials almost every day. Is that supposed to be funny? To whom?

It didn't even seem like it was supposed to be humorous yet they took a good few seconds out of their trailer to focus on it as if it was supposed to elicit a good guffaw from we lowly viewers.

The only thing I conclude every time is: I guess I'm not the target audience for this, so I'm not going to watch it.

Chicken Lady: Homecoming - Kids in the Hall

poolcleaner says...

Kids in the Hall sketches are also more thought provoking than SNL. SNL is more of a contemporary pop culture reference machine like Mad magazine and Family Guy.

The pop cultural references in KitH are to things of higher value like early cinema classics (Citizen Kane), Nietzsche, Morrison Hotel, surrealism, film noir; and with heavy pro LGBT, pro environmental (the beaver!) and anti corporate themes; displaying the frivolity of office politics, and the HARDCORE Canadian law enforcement.

What does SNL give but a couple'a chuckles, eh?

I think Kids did recurring characters better than SNL. SNL beats them to death and the sketches are WAY too long.

Try to Watch This Without Laughing or Grinning (REACT)

kceaton1 says...

I like others said, lost it almost off the bat, thanks to two other factors: the fact that he mentions not to laugh or smile. Which for some reason makes you "do a practice run" when you hear it (really that is something that might make a good psychology test). Second as others mentioned is how others reacted to the video, ended up making me smile or chuckle.

Anyway, they win and I'd like to keep it that way, we'll see how long the Internet/Cthulhu will let things stay this way..

My Bow Breathing-alternate title-Payback in the Boys Room

newtboy says...

you guys are hilarious. That's now the thumbnail it started with, and another user decided it needed to be changed. I obliged them because I agreed, and now you change it back because....?
I don't really care either way...I just got a chuckle out of the 'it should have this thumb...no it should have this thumb...no it should have the first thumb' back and forth.
EDIT: I gotta say, this thumbnail is not going to get any views...it's not good, and the one with her holding the arrow wasn't much better. Both are bland. I liked the one that was made for it that's now gone.

don't suppose that a *findthumb can improve that?...

if not, i took the liberty of making a screencap at 4:32
for you to manually replace it with, if you like.

The Psychology of the Web Troll

Retroboy says...

The author is hooking "trolling" to "feel good about yourself" a little too strongly, I'm thinking.

Some people troll simply because it's entertaining to them, and once they start getting chuckles by getting rises out of people, it can continue to the point where it's habitual and they adopt it as their "style" or "identity" or "online character".

Ellen Dance Dare Gone Wrong- With Cops

ulysses1904 says...

We have the luxury of sitting at our keyboards knowing the intentions and full context of this dancer’s actions. The cop in the driver’s seat and those in front of the van would not have the same luxury, it was happening in real time. I don’t exactly applaud the policemen’s response but given full context I can pretty much understand it. But I won’t get sucked into the usual Michael Moore level of debate -“cops BAD citizens GOOD”

If this dancer wants to play the passive/aggressive thumb-sucker and ignore current events and say “golly, I was just dancing” then he deserves to get the stupid shoved right out of him. Although I don’t think that’s possible. Go spread your joy with some small town police force, maybe they will shake their heads and chuckle while you flash your roll of Mentos.

"Stupidity of American Voter," critical to passing Obamacare

enoch says...

i have zero desire to see trance banned, that was never my intent for calling him out.
i simply wanted him to acknowledge his emotional response to a disagreement on a video he posted,
that the disagreement was with the video NOT him..personally.

i know this will only further derail this thread but i think it should be said.

a video is not a representation of the person.
being called out does not automatically translate to dislike of the person being called out.

a few weeks ago i did a little experiment with clickbait titles and @ChaosEngine totally called me on it.which gave me a nice chuckle and chaos was in the right but interestingly enough, the experiment worked.that video got 10 times the views it normally would in the same allotted time.

there was another video i posted where i didnt do my due diligence and it turned out to be a total fraud and @speechless (quite politely) called me out on that video and i was forced to apologize in shame.

does all this translate to chaos and speechless disliking me?
of course not.
i got busted using clickbait methodology and not doing my homework.while a tad embarrassing, being called out taught a lesson and a bit of humility.

point: i was the better for it.

trances targeted downvoting was an emotional response and he was behaving foolishly, but make no mistake..trance is no fool.he just took my analysis and criticism personally and responded emotionally.

no animals were harmed, all the puppies are still cute and kitty videos are more popular than ever.

human beings are sometimes irrational and emotional.trance should not be banned for behaving like a human being.

TYT Republicans destroy and have no solutions

VoodooV says...

love how everyone starts chuckling when he declares that Obamacare *will* be killed

I'll never understand why democrats do not show up to vote on midterms. The Republicans didn't win the midterms...Dems just didn't show up so R just won by forfeit

They'll show up to vote against Palin and McCain, and to vote against Romney/Ryan. But they're silent during midterms.

On the lighter side though, Nothing has really changed though, Obama can still veto anything the R puts out and they don't have enough control of congress to override the veto. If anything If Reps really are emboldened and think they have a mandate to go full retard..even moreso than usual. Then in the long term, this will benefit the liberals when the public ultimately rejects GOP ideas as they have increasingly done so.

What narcolepsy really looks like

artician says...

I have a college friend who has Narcolepsy. He took medication for it though (though I knew he hated the side effects of that, even), so for us, including him, we got a good chuckle out of it every once in a while. Really sweet guy. Even though he only blacked out on us a couple times, he didn't ever show this serious of symptoms. I feel extremely bad for this woman, because she seems obviously very frustrated when it occurs. Not having a 'normal' amount of control over your own body can drive you literally insane.

Simon Anholt: Which country does the most good for the world

Every Vlogger Ever

ulysses1904 says...

Exactly. He could also have included cutting to a side camera shot in the middle of a sentence. Or having a far shot that shows the main camera and lighting equipment. Or a staged shot of him chuckling to himself as he blows a take. Or a slow close-up pan across his face, looking real earnest. Or SMPTE code at the bottom of the screen. Or the countdown footage at the beginning.
I hate this crap with a passion.
