We Got Stronger Beer

Tolwyn says...

Wait, what?? That's not true across the board. Their "budweiser" may have more Acohol by content, but those types of comparisons disappear when it comes to our micro-beer market, such as Red Hook, IPAs, etc...

It's probably the most myopic comparison you can make. They have "professional" football is like saying we both have "professional" exotic dancers. It means nothing. We have the NFL. Our worst players go to the CFL.

So... huh?

How To Roll A Blunt featuring Afroman

shang says...

Very true, nowadays I don't see why anyone would want to smoke it.

I have a cheap old EZ Vape plug in wall version next to bed for occasional weekend use. I want a Volcano but too expensive course I'm more a light user.

I grow my own, I keep 1 mason jar filled or half, growing 2 every few months in closet using cfl

THAT DOES LOOK NEAT !@ I just have a CFL spiral bulb keeping the Star Grass alive ( and quite well)
I will put more plants when I get a proper hood and lights. I have over come some fish sickness and initial start up problems, I am learning a bit everyday.

Looking good, BR. But where's the red tiger lotus? Don't make me come over there!

LED bulbs will soon be more affordable, and they use even less electricity than CFLs, however, they can be sort of blindingly harsh.

Be careful how you change your bulbs. The 5 mg of mercury in a single CFL is enough to make as much as 50,000 litres of water undrinkable according to Canadian drinking water standerds.

As far as Fraking goes, the only controversy is how these companies continue to get away with it. Water means life. *Quality PSA.

If you cut out all the back and forth rhetoric that inevitably spews between oil(and gas) corporations and communities who want clean air and water and a future, it all comes down to neoclassical economics' false dichotomy.
Corporations (and left and right wing politicians who over romanticize the free market) will tell citizens,
"you can either have:
a) a strong economy, or
b) a clean environment."
and
they
will
insist
we
can't
have
both.

In Canada for the last couple elections people have been scare mongered by this false dichotomy.
I tell you, there is a sustainable economy, there is a sustainable future: dare to dream. Let's all grow the f ck up and build the new economy that defies the bullshit neoclassical economic lies that have been entrenched in our culture. They will tell you the choice is between a job or cancer. Fuck. that. shit.
It's time for the next industrial revolution, the green revolution, I'm in. Change your light bulbs, then change your leaders.

MSNBC Host Hits Dems on Patriot Act Hypocrisy

NetRunner says...

@blankfist upvoted. I'm not at all pleased about it.

In terms of the "my party is better than yours" contest, here are the vote tallies:

Senate Nays by party: 19 Democrats (I'm including Bernie Sanders in there), 4 Republicans.
House Nays by party: 122 Democrats, 31 Republicans.

I'd love to grow those numbers on both sides of the aisle.

Some notable names in both lists:

Pelosi: Nay
Weiner: Nay
Kucinich: Nay
Franken: Nay
Leahy: Nay (and filibustered with Rand, not that the press or CFL mentions that)
Brown: Nay

I want more Democrats in Congress like them, and fewer like Ben Nelson, Joe Lieberman, and Joe Manchin (all voted Aye).

Oh, and this came up in one of my google searches in trying to find those roll call lists: http://irregulartimes.com/index.php/archives/2011/05/28/tea-party-roll-call-may-2011-patriot-act/

Looks like the House Tea Party caucus voted overwhelmingly in favor of renewal.

Obama on the DISCLOSE Act

NetRunner says...

@blankfist I keep getting these e-mails from CFL and Ron Paul saying that the DISCLOSE Act will be the end of free speech. In reality, it's legislation that will require corporations that run direct political ads to clearly identify who paid for the ads. This is mostly a response to the FEC v. Citizens United decision that struck down a large portion of the campaign finance reform laws.

Where do you stand on this?

Is DISCLOSE a secret liberal plot to end free speech, or a mild attempt to address the craziness that is the Citizens United decision?

I'm opposed to escalating Afghanistan. I'm also opposed to people trying to make sweeping generalizations about Democrats based on a series of false premises and fallacious logic. People are entitled to their opinion on Obama and the decisions he's making as President. What they aren't entitled to is their own facts about what Obama has said or done.
If there's a candidate in 2012 who's a better fit to my values than Obama on the ballot with a credible shot at winning, I'll vote for 'em.
Ron Paul is vehemently opposed to what I believe on 9 out of 10 topics. Even so, I don't see why the remaining Paultards think Ron Paul's empty campaign promises will get followed through on any more than anyone else who's ever run for President, especially given that he's got no support for his platform within his own party.
I definitely don't understand why they think they're going to win support from anti-war Democrats with their messaging strategy. All the CFL ever does is call everything we try to achieve "tyranny", unless they happen to agree with us on a topic, then they just call us hypocrites because we don't all immediately disown the Democratic party and swear undying loyalty to Paul the minute he makes an empty promise on the topic.
It seems mostly like just crap he tells his supporters so they'll repeat his line of reasoning thinking they're engaging in some sort of open-minded bipartisan outreach, when what he's really doing is prepping them to get all hostile and defensive when said "outreach" inevitably gets rejected.

Fair enough. I was just pointing out that Bush did not even follow his own doctrine. Also, santions (Of the economic type) are a blockade of sorts and are at least an aggression.

Lastly, I was saying, in relation to Obama's approach to war, he is nearly identiacal to Bush. I say this not because his strategy is similar, rather, he follows the base of his party in the matter. If they said Home, he would bring them home. If they say Escalation, he escalates. If they say carpet bombs, he throws carpet bombs.

At least this is MO, not actual fact. Perhaps he is doing what is best for the war. Howdy knows.

Revoke BP's Corporate Charter

blankfist says...

I used to dislike sweatshops and avoided with open disdain any company that used them. Then I realized I love my goddamn Nikes. Fuck off and sweat, motherfuckers.

Kidding. Though I do think the majority of "sweatshops" in underdeveloped and poor countries give better working wages than laborers in those areas typically receive. To us, $5 a day is impossible to live on, but over there that may be a decent wage when adjusted for their economy.

As for @volumptuous claim that Ubuntu cannot handle the software he uses, he is correct, but only because there isn't a market for it - if people chose Ubuntu all that software would be created for it. But Ubuntu isn't sexy like Mac, and all of volumptuous' low fat soy latte sipping, Prius driving, Sig bottle drinking, iPhone calling, Oliver Peoples glasses wearing, carbon credit buying, The Standard in Downtown going, CNN text alert receiving, CFL bulb using, Obama Biden bumper sticker having friends use Mac because they're the "in" thing here in LA.
