Dumbass With Laser Pointer Lighting Up Police Chopper

Fransky says...

I'm not sure how to feel about this. Pointing a laser at an aircraft is a stupid thing to do, but the amount of surveillance in the UK is almost Orwellian. You can't even fart without it being caught on camera.

Instant Karma

I'm not excited. I think YOU need to read your stuff again if you think you aren't taking sides.
You've taken the position that his action was instigated by others not de-escalating the situation (even though many people tried to do exactly that)...absolving him of responsibility for his own violent actions.
If being filmed is 'egging him on', then he's ALWAYS being egged on towards violence. There's ALWAYS a camera on you if you're in public. Being filmed is NEVER an excuse for violence, reasonable people see it as a reason to avoid escalating to violence and a way to de-escalate a situation (because a non-insane person doesn't want to be caught on camera acting insanely).
You seem to say the opposite, that filming him drove him to violence, seeming to absolve him of responsibility for his own actions and blaming the bystander that was violently attacked repeatedly. What?!? To me, that's insane.
No, it's not simply jumping to conclusions to say he started things here, it's analyzing the situation and seeing clearly that he would not have multiple people filming him, and the rest of them watching him, if he was not ALREADY being outrageous and causing a scene on his own.

EDIT: And I guess the guy in the hat was also not de-escalating things enough, so it was reasonable for the asshole to throw off his jacket in preparation for a fight and angrily approach hat man? Hat man wasn't filming. In fact, I'm wondering how you KNOW that the elderly victim was filming, and not just using his cell phone. Just because drunk asshole assumed that he was doesn't make it true. There's only one person we KNOW was filming this, and they weren't attacked at all. It seems you've jumped to some conclusions.

Roughed Up Citizen Journalist at Georgia Republican Rally

newtboy says...

Name and badge number? Never given, although repeatedly asked for.
Resistance is totally lawful when the officer doesn't identify himself as an officer, and a T shirt is not identification.
One more instance of a cop caught on camera lying. He never identified himself or showed a badge that I saw/heard, or explained the charge.

This has a lot of information on it. It states that the two in the car were too traumatised (also uses the word terrified) to comment. It also says that the guy cut them off and brake checked them a few times before they finally collided on the 5th attempt.

Also, isn't it a bit dangerous to let people like that loose in society? I'm worried enough already that some lunatic will get 'roid rage and randomly attack me without provocation (there are so many young lads on steroids right now) without having to worry about trained killers doing it. With the greatest of respect to anyone that has fought for a moral cause, i didn't necessarily ask them to do it in my name, nor should that be cause to expose people to the danger he poses.

Police Caught Planting Drugs In Small Business

Glass How-to: Getting Started

MilkmanDan says...

I was mainly providing counterpoints for those that DO want them, except for privacy concerns (ie., concerned about their own privacy when wearing them). That represents most of the vehement opposition to these things that I've seen, and I just think that is a bit odd. Plenty of other good reasons not to like/want them.

Regarding #2 though, definitely fair point. On the other hand, smartphones have already made an abundance of cameras available to catch our every misstep or faux pas whenever we're in public, so I doubt that these glasses will accelerate that trend any more. Heck, a big chunk of YouTube (or the Sift) is made up of people being caught on camera doing less-than-perfectly-intelligent things; perhaps that ship has sailed.

I appreciate the counterpoints but

1) I won't be buying into this latest fad, so no need for a fake account.

2) See #1. And the fancy piece of electrical tape you want to sell me isn't going to help me when I have to adhere it to the sets of glasses staring at me that aren't mine.

CNN Sympathizes with High School Rapists

Jerykk says...

Cite one contemporary example where what I describe (all of it, not just parts) has been attempted.

There are plenty of examples of unjust and tyrannical brutality. I can't think of any where the brutality was fair, consistent and logical. That's what you don't seem to be grasping here. Genocide or religious/political persecution are not comparable to what I propose.

We live in the safest period of history not because of liberalization or decreasing barbarism but because technology has made it much easier to enforce the law and maintain order. If you try to rob a bank, you'll be caught on camera and the cops will have you surrounded in minutes thanks to silent alarms. If you try to rape someone in the street, bystanders can whip out their phones, capture your face on camera and then call the cops. If you steal a car and try to speed off, you'll never get away from the police cars at every corner and helicopter in the air. Never before has it been so easy to defend yourself, get help or capture proof of a crime. It's no coincidence that the vast majority of crime occurs in poor areas with minimal surveillance and police presence. It was thanks to technology that the two Steubenville rapists were caught and successfully persecuted.

You don't get it, do you? Your ideas have been tried, and they don't work.

Eugenics and brutality are discredited ideas. The entire history of human civilisation has been one of increasing liberalisation, decreasing barbarism, and because of that we now live in the safest period in history.

great parenting caught on camera once again. AND judging by the size of that 3 year old, i would say the terrible parenting doesn't stop there.

You make a massive assumption. Anyone who has/had kids, knows that being vigilant 100% of the time is nigh on impossible. Yes, there are MANY examples of bad parenting but, as I said, this isn't necessarily one of them.
