CAN I get Tom Scott to LAND a B737MAX, ALONE?!

newtboy says...

In the next simulation the door plug needs to self eject and the front landing gear needs to fall off like has happened to 737s this month.
Boeing is screwed. They designed their inspection system so they can remove the door plug, do required repair work, and reinstall it but call that “opening the door” so there’s not an inspection afterwards, which happened on the plane that lost its door.
Worse, if the photos Boeing gave the press are correct, they are using jam nuts (two thin nuts that loosely “jam” together under pressure only if properly installed) instead of castle nuts and cotter pins (that cannot unscrew) on bolts that will fall out if they’re not secured. That is a horrible design flaw if accurately reported, and explains all the loose bolts found on other planes!
American and Alaska are already talking to airbus and considering cancelling their orders from Boeing completely.

Disney Dominates DeSantis

cloudballoon says...

DeSantis pwned! It's no surprise, Disney got one of the absolute largest legal team in the world in one roof (or castle) to fight for da Mouse House.

Stand Your Ground: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

luxintenebris says...

terrible irony.

these types of laws in a land where red/blue question the competence of each other.

the worst of it is that the castle doctrine is way saner. and installed by our elders of yore.

wouldn't it make more sense if our ancestors supported self-defense in times of less policing, education or other resources? even w/the majority of people living in rural communities, and literacy rates sustainably lower they expected people to have a certain amount of sense. if a person shot another, there had better very good reason to do so.

maybe that's the rub. our foreparents wanted better. not less.

10 Things You Didn't Know About A Christmas Story

moonsammy says...

Dude could stand to edit his intro down, but mostly solid info. I had no idea the movie had so many sequels and "sequels"!

At the end he suggests Americans should catch up on some Aussie classics. Any suggestions? The only four that I've seen and know for sure to be Australian, off the top of my head, are Young Einstein, The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Castle, and Mad Max. No doubt I've seen more than that, but I don't want to assume set in / starring an Australian means it was actually made by Australians...

When you gotta go, you gotta go

BSR says...

Your Honor, I maintain that you can clearly see that you cannot clearly see any evidence of said "go" or "poop" as alleged by the video witness nor any attempt at "secretly" trying to Bake a loaf, Blow Mud, Bomb the Bowl, Build a dookie castle, Lay the clay, Chop a log, Drop the kids off at the pool or Cook a butt burrito.

My client was simply trying to cool her butt lips.

I rest my case. 🧑‍⚖️

And it's still going on. We deserve what we get.

We should be marching on the White House like the peasants on Frankenstein's castle.

BEAUTIFUL SCOTLAND (Highlands / Isle of Skye)

BSR says...

Nice. Hans Zimmer, one of my favorite composers. I once hunted down the castles in Monty Python and the Holy Grail filming locations and visited them on Google Earth.

In fact, yesterday I did the same thing with this video. It was in Split, Croatia.

About half of the locations are in Skye, most of the castles and lighthouses are not on Skye. OP has all his sites identified in Google Maps if you click on through to the Youtube page.

Ted Cruz loves White Castle

It occurs to me this may be a highly regional food item. Cheese curds are really just chunks of (typically) mozzarella or cheddar cheese. Usually about the size of a regular or large marble. They can be bought fresh, or at restaurants you'll generally get them deep fried. That's what White Castle had a few months ago, and they were not quite MN State Fair quality (which are divine), but pretty damned good for the price.

If you want the best possible unfried cheese curds though, look to Wisconsin. In rural areas you can get them ridiculously fresh, and you'll know if you have - they squeak when you bite into them. That stops happening in less than a day, regardless of how they're kept.

Edit: Cheese curds are also a vital component of poutine, a Quebecois dish. French fries, cheese curds, crumbled bacon, and brown gravy. So goddamn bad for you / delicious.

I have access to many White Castle locations. I don't visit regularly, as the food isn't for meals, per se. At 2am, in one of the right states of mind, it is the food of the gods. Particularly the jalapeno sliders and mozz sticks.

Oh, and when they have them, the cheese curds are shockingly good.

My sentiment exactly. I'm Canadian and I've never seen a White Castle anywhere near me.

White Castle was a real letdown. I've lived on the west coast my whole life and had only heard about them, then about 10 years ago I had a chance to go to Atlanta for my job. After picking up the rental, I was headed to the hotel when I saw a White Castle. "Hell yeah", I thought. I finally get to try a Harold and Kumar burger. So I get a slider combo and...... yeah, they wern't very good. Turns out I don't like steamed hamburger.
